  • I corrected the fret crown, polished the frets, corrected the nut shape and adjusted the nut groove height on a Fender Stratocaster.
It was made in 2002. The fretboard radius is less radius than the traditional model.
The owner asked me to adjust the frets and make the nut.
However, the owner wanted to reset the condition of the guitar from the previous owner.
Personally, I think fret grinding consumes fret life.
Of course, if it doesn't sound right, it's useless as an instrument, so fretboard alignment is very important.
However, in this case, I checked the guitar and determined that there is no need to fretboard it.
However, the tops of the frets are quite flat, which is not the result of fret consumption, but the result of proper fret rounding? This was not caused by fret consumption. This was not due to fret consumption, but due to lack of proper fret rounding or crown backing.
Based on the above, I did the work in the video.
For the nut, the groove depth was not even, so I corrected the groove.
Also, the shape of the nut was not what I thought was functional and beautiful, so I corrected the shape.
However, there were some parts that had been machined down significantly, so I corrected the shape as much as possible.
When I first received the guitar and played it, I thought it didn't sound good, but after the work, it sounded good when I played it.
But after the work, it became a nice sounding guitar. The effect of the new strings is one thing, but I think the other is that there is less ground contact between the frets and the strings, which makes it harder to dampen the vibrations. I think so.
To be honest, it made a big difference, so I think fret pile is very important.
    Thank you for your request.

    Nice Job!
First time watching your channel. Curious what you use to Clean/condition the fingerboard, assume that is lemon oil being used first? After that, looks like some sort of paste wax? If so what type and brand of wax are you using? That is interesting to me as some waxes could become soft and sticky as the guitar warms while playing, others could be hard and difficult to apply in such small areas. Never seen anyone use a wax on top of the oil before, where did you learn this technique or is it something you figured out on your own? Also, what benefits do you get using the wax? First thought is the depth and shine would last much longer than with oil alone but is there any other benefits ?
Appreciate the time, care and passion involved with your work. Usually am so let down watching other videos when it comes to this type of work. Too many videos whip through this "job" without much time or care taken at all. Believe the fretboard is one of (if not the) most important parts of a guitar and it should be done with care and detail. Not a job where 'Close' is acceptable, IMO the frets and fingerboard (entire neck) has to be done with patience and done with precision. You have accomplished that, very well done. Thank You for your work and doing these videos. Certainly will be watching more.
    Cheers

You do an amazing job! I wish I was as talented as you are sir. Being in Japan there are so many cool guitars for you to work on. I'd love to own a Greco guitar redone by you. Did you go to school to learn this or just self taught? Thank you for your wonderful videos.

So satisfying. How many times can we do this on the frets before it needs a complete re-fret?

    • @Andybassguitar

It depends on the type of frets and how you use them.
It's difficult because some guitars are flat even when shipped.

I am not sure why you marked the tops of the frets if you were not crowning them, or was that part left out? Thanks!

    • @Andybassguitar
      @Andybassguitar  2 роки тому +4

The tops of the frets were flat, so I worked on rounding them.
I marked the tops of the frets to make it easier to see where they were.
I marked them so I wouldn't have to cut off too many.
      Thanks for the comment!
