Coach/Professor Erik Paulson is my favorite grappler/fighter by miles. He speaks the way I understand, and his knowledge/technique is bottomless. I’m just thankful his content is so accessible. Love this guy.
Yo Erik, looking good man. Still a great teacher. This is Louie from Tacketts. It's been 30 years and I still remember stuff you taught me. Thanks man.
@@erikpaulson4929 Same here man. Doing well. Living in Idaho. Run into Chris Kent once in a while. Trying to stay healthy. When i hit 50 the body really started breaking down! Lol. But great man. Really enjoy your stuff. Taught my son that Shooto Flow you used to teach us a few years ago. Great stuff man.
I needed to hear that… literally as if you were speaking to me at the right time 👊🏾 keep that kinda content coming! Quick kill… 💯 time to turn it up! Some knowledge right there !
3 levels of grappling described in this video: 1. Having an attack/series from a position 2. Having a position and taking what they give you 3. Calling your submission
I spent 8 months focused on omaplatas. The onteresting part is that by the end of it, I could see all kinds of entries. Armlocks, triangles, and the back just always seemed available.

Jujutsu is wrestling. Going back to the beginning of Jujutsu’s origin in Japan, Jujutsu was made from two wrestling styles: Sumo and Tegoi. And it was made for warefare combat by Samurai. And over the years it gained striking, developed ground game and was mainly for self-defense. But Jujutsu was brutal in both practice and in use. Judo was made to make Jujutsu safe to practice and develop a better philosophical approach. It was called “Kano-ryu Jujutsu” before he changed it to “Judo” in 1925. But old school Jujutsu is being mixed with Judo and other arts today. Gracie Jujutsu is a mix of Judo, Jujutsu, catch wrestling and more. Yes, Maeda was a Judo practitioner but he trained with Fusen-ryu Jujutsuka in the past and the Gracie have too. That’s how they developed their style. Jujutsu as a whole is rooted in forms of wrestling. Japanese, Brazilian, doesn’t matter. Jujutsu is Jujutsu. And yes, it’s spelled “Jujutsu”. “Jiu-Jitsu” is the European misspelling of it. And Japanese Jujutsu is more popular there and has been modernized just like ones here in the USA. Like Danzan-ryu, Small Circle, Kobukai and Jukido Jujutsu. They all are a mix of old school Jujutsu and Judo. The rest that they mixed with varies. But they all spa and they even research older methods of jujutsu from when the samurai used them and after. It all looks like catch wrestling. Cuz Jujutsu is essentially that, but for combat rather than sport, originally. There are tons history and facts about this. I did Judo and Atemi-ryu Jujutsu. It’s a modern style mixed with 8 classical Jujutsu arts, Judo and various striking styles. But has a huge emphasis on old school Jujutsu and it’s application in modern self-defense. Saved my butt on the streets before.
Man everything you're saying is exactly what I think about the sport right now. All the arts should be combined people think wreslting is just standing, but wrestling can be used effectively on the ground too.
