David’s Scattergun Approach May Cap His Global Potential | Dragons’ Den

- David Kendall is seeking an investment of £50,000 in return for a 25% equity stake in his slap-on wristwatch business. Having taken over 'Slappie' a year ago, Kendall explains that the business had achieved £105,000 worth of sales purely via e-commerce which excited the Dragons but Peter's got an issue with David's scattergun approach...
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

This guy was so nice and polite, I wish the best for him.
Being polite and nice gets you nowhere in life
@@elyanae9588 Depends tbh. Sometimes yes sometimes no..

Peter always comes across as. " I can't even be bothered to look at you"
I like it when he looks disgusted the second they walk in, like their mere presence has offended him immediately.
He loves to stress that he's buying people, not businesses 🙄
That was one of the smoothest, most eloquent and polite ways to turn down an offer. And under all that pressure.
Sarah was the most polite and agreeable dragon ever. Even when an idea was sh#te she never sneered or belittled people. Such a nice lady.
You're right.
And she is extremely fit - gorgeous!
She's also Jenny lite, but people overlook that cause she's slightly attractive.
@@jgame7587 Whats "Jenny lite"?
@@rossi6113 More often than not she finds a way to say she's out. Not on industrial level as Jenny, but definitely has a routine to get out

Peter questions the entrepreneur’s commitment as he owns 2 businesses.
Says Peter with 500000 businesses....
You have a valid point. Although in the early stages of a business its needs the full attention of the owner. Unless you are Peter Jones who can afford to pay someone to run his business
Peter also has 1000s of staff running his businesses. I assume this guy doesn’t. I also assume peter was in this exact position when he bought his second business. Your point is exactly? Haha

Fidget spinners were around in the 90's.. then look what happened
“you dont know where you want to be” “you’re like, anywhere where this might sell”
Am i missing something or is this the point of a business? lol
Yes and she gives him a magic wand too. So, idk what answer she's expecting.
Well, to some degree, giving this type of product an identity and a niche will probably help strengthen it, not weaken it. Which means that if you're everywhere, everyone knows who you are, but no one wants you, because you're too "mainstream". Instead of being niche to a smaller community where people will use this product to stand out.
She's talking about having the right venue to sell it.. i.e that targets the right audience. Smart business isn't about being everywhere, it's about being everywhere your customer is at. Otherwise, you'll just have unsold stock
Yes you are missing everything. Marketing 101. Know your audience
Marketing, You have to pay to be in certain market, if you got into everywhere and doesn sell but 1 place, you prolly gonna lost more money than nomatter how much you sell
So basically, it's a Slap Bracelet from the 1990's, with a watch on it.
Yeah Swatch
So basically, you are a couch potato that has done less than him and you don't (as yet) have a dragon on board, right?.
@chris brady These words carry no weight being that they came from, well that's been explained already. O integrity, 0 decency 0 credibility. You need lots of hand holding, that is your ration.
i mean he sold the business for 25 million so 🤷♂️
Wonderful when the pitcher thanks the dragons individually for their offers.
This guy was good, very professional. A good line up of dragons too. Nice when they decline an investment as politely as Sarah does in this one.
Bless him, what a genuine guy. So many people enter the den thinking they know better than the dragons. He was humble and put his cards on the table. The guy just needed a leg up. I hope he's done well for himself and his family 👪
no active website, social media and thry are selling for a £1 on ebay or about 30 in a lot used for £25. It was a terrible product
What a gentleman! He came across to me as a grounded humble Man. Regards.
I would be shocked and surprised if Swatch didn't do this already
I think they did. Hell, I made mine in eighth grade just for fun
W W Yes! They were actually banned in my country because as the edges wore down they got sharp and caused lacerations.
You would be shocked at anything you mug
They did and they do
This was one of the most sensible-thinking people to come into the den. Of course, 55% and a dragon will end up paying more than 100% on one's own.
Why do they always think someone can’t have more than 1 job when the dragons have about 50 companies each ?
Because they are putting their money in.
They have the money to afford teams to run it . But if they have to invest their money they must be sure that the person they investing in is willing to work towards development. Its quite a-lot of money they are asking and i do-not think the dragons have time to start running his business for him .
lol indeed
Am I living in a bizzaro world?? Slappy watches?? I remember these things from when I was a kid like 30 years ago... I can't believe he got 2 offers! Good for him!
I was really confused by the offers. Toukar's did not seem like a serious offer at all but then Nick swooped in and made a real offer. For those slappy watches. Whaaaat.
This guy 100% deserved the investment - the kind of people you know you can work with and very humble and straight forward well done
the company was dissolved 3 years before you wrote your comment, whoever he paid £75000 to for this awful company is a genius or good at picking out a proper charlie
I had one of these in late 80's, early 90s.
The face was removable and it could be attached to clothing.

Lol just a bit. The deal in the den meant the company was valued at round £110k. The net worth of the company around time of sale was around £90m
Alarm bells ring when he says he never failed at anything. He's ten steps behind those who have failed because the road to success is paved with failure.
You're saying you'd turn down working with somebody with a record of successes because they've not failed and learned certain lessons from doing so?
He doesn't mean he's never failed, he means he's never stayed down and given up and stayed failed
Rulers an bracelets exactly like the watch concept have been around HERE in the U.S. for at least 30 years. I still have a ruler like this.

Damn 45% seems like a hefty chunk but then again, owning 55% of something big is better than owning 55% of something that isn't so big. Good move!
You mean than 100% of something not so big ?
I thought he would have tried to get both for 22.5 each.
That was a fair offer for a business that never has done more than 60 000 in sales.
@@SinkyYT He only needed one & he chose wisely for what he needed to get most of his money back & flog it off to another sucker.
I was going to comment this, but wasn't sure if the request to capitalise his business was anything to do with that hefty chunk. If not he should have negotiated 5-10 percent
I can imagine this to have become a good and fair business relationship between Nick & him.
This guy sold to another businessman in 2017 (this aired 2016). So much for dedicating everything to it! Company still going in 2021.
Dissolved now. Interesting that both he and Nick sold the company just a year after Nick invested

He mentioned Claire’s, he mentioned Selfridges. It’s like being in Harrods and Primark at the same time. Just don’t make sense🤷🏽♀️
No no no my friend you weren't listening properly lol
He said he was in Claire's (or in talks with claire's) then Sarah asked him.."with a magic wand where would you be,in an ideal world what shops )
He then answered 'Selfridge's 'and some other stores but he didn't say Claire's, so that's where he would be if he could chose anywhere,so he wouldn't be putting it in Claire's BUT
that's with a magic wand ,the REALITY is he is talking to Claire's es he obviously needs to sell it
I saw something like these, back then, but I don't think they were this brand, (unless they stopped selling them in the plastic circular case). I thought they were uncomfortable to wear, & it was a pain to put the watch face back in & make it sit properly after changing the battery.
Seems very familiar, 1980s perhaps? I seem to recall them feeling plastic and kinda blocky on the wrist, but maybe these are softer and more pliable. They might be attractive to the bright purple sunglasses/blue hair brigade...
I think you're right that there were different types, I remember a shiny thin plastic type & one with a soft rubbery type of material. These videos are from around 2014 - 2016, I think, & it's possible that was the second time they came out as a product, so it probably did come out some years before that.
I would have countered Tucker's offer by explaining that if I invest over a 100k and he invests $50k that it buys me 70% of the business and him 30%.
I had one of these (not sure if this brand though) about 7-10 years ago as a teenager. I could see that being a market, everyone at my school went crazy for it and always wanted to see it in action or try it on themselves. Would be perfect for somewhere like Claire's accessories, though I'm not sure anyone still shops there?
Update: Company was dissolved feb 2020
Were they not swatch watches
He seems like a nice guy but his negotiation skills were poor! Went in too high at 25% and didn’t negotiate when they offered 45%
The titles ruin the videos for me. Because I have a perception before watching it.
I just completely ignore them and it’s a much better experience.
Resigned as director June 2017, company appears to have been dissolved February this year. Sad to see
They sold the company for $25 millions to a Chanel Islands entrepreneur, you can see the article in Watch Pro, the did very very well
Why do you guys even read the title? When I see the golden Dragons Den logo I just click the video without even looking.
I have 3 of these in my drawer. The slap function was great, but the watch was iffy. 🤷🏾♀️

Like how about costs. Did I miss it or did they ask about how much they sell for and how much he buys them for? I have serious doubts about them knowing nothing about the product before the show.
Ha Touker was so upset, can see by how he looks away after the deal, then gets whiny at Nick. Serves him right though for that parasitical offer.
Always in it for the money 😊
Why didn’t they ask how much they sell for? Where are they made? What’s the landing cost into the Uk?
So Slappie has now been bought by another businessman, it's in House of Fraser and other big stores, this chap sold it because he couldn't find the time to run it 😂

He comes across as a narcissist who gets tired of his new toys quickly-never failed at anything, well this didn't really succeed as such-he almost got his money back & Nick did make something on it-it was put up for sale less than a year after Nick invested. Now the guy they have sold it to seems to have made it a modest success for a few years-company was dissolved in February.

I remember those, those are slap bracelets, they were outlawed in the 90's for slitting kid's wrist
Some of the stuff these business people say is beyond me, wouldn’t you want your products in every place possible ?
Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple of scenarios - you wouldn't want to sell high-end products in low-end shops as it'll give the impression the product is low-end and destroy the premium you've built with the brand. Also, if it doesn't sell in one place as it doesn't suit the target market, then it'll look like nobody wants the product and it's a dud, which can harm your reputation in the overall market and will mean other places won't stock your product. I'm sure there are other reasons too.
That's why the dragons are multi millionaires and you are not
@@Casey-Jones how do u know that they are not a millionaire ?
