I worked in a Bank in Australia and I was an avid coin & note collector. When I asked transferred to another office a bank teller was telling me about his special 20 cent coins. I asked him to bring them in so I could see them. He had 6 of the scalloped 20 cents coins that he had found when opening 20 cent rolls minted by the mint. I saw the coins in 2006 and offered him AUD $2000 for a coin, but he would not sell. I told him to protect them, don’t handle them. I said if you ever sell them to go through an auction house like Downeys Australian Coin Auction
Somewhere in my garage, there's a box of some 30 turn of the century pennies and half pennies. I'm going to look for them. Hopefully we didn't throw the box out when we moved.
I "HAD" two 1922/21 overstrike 3Ps for years, but in a moment of stupidity I sold one for $2k.
I'm now holding the second one near and dear (second one is better condition than the one I sold, but dirty).
I dream of cleaning it (the dirt is not "hard") but I know that would be numismatic suicide!
Great video. I subbed
nice vidéo , thank you for the sharing❤️
my mother had saved the round 50 cent coins for us as kids to give to us later on, well we found those coins and not thinking she would miss them we spent them at a milk bar on ice cream! my son came up to me to show me the 2007 double headed 5cent piece I remember saying to him you should keep that he says nah mum its all good I will find another!! lol the half pennys yes mum had those as well dont know where they are now, I had a massive jar full of 2c and 1c pieces after they stopped circulating them, I gave it to the fellows in the radiator shop as they would solder them into the water tanks of specific cars radiators because of the metal composition...interesting and now I am going to be even more alert and on the look out, thank you for that and the information you provided as far as what they are made of and mintages etc I think your channel would be the only one I have seen that done on, and thank you for doing your homework on Australia!!! cheers 😁
The 1981 3 half claw is not rare just a common variety search up the mintage of the Canadian 1981 20 cent

In regards to where you can get the Australian penny's you can buy them from downies in Melbourne in 1and 2kg bags they sell the penny's a few times a year just give them a call.there is also Macquarie mint that sells the Australian penny's. Good luck.
I'm not an Aussie, but do have all kinds of Aussie coins stored in a bottle, some before dollars and cents came about and a few long before.
What I do have found out in the wilds, and likely the best find of them all was a sixpence with a young Queen Victorea on it cannot rember the minted date on it just now.
Cheers from a Kiwi.

Very interesting history of Oz coins. I remember the transition from pounds to dollars (I was at school). The tree pence coin is (was) pronounced throopance, and the half penny pronounced haypenny.
Where I live in Australia the 3 pence coin was pronounced “thrupence”. (As in “up”)
@@annetteoshea7876 I was raised in Melbourne (now Adelaide).

Hello from Australia.
It's pronounced eckidna but it's spelt echidna (the h is silent). However you did really well overall.
Thank you for the very infomative video.
do mint your coins in a registered company and sell them in real antique shops or collectors
The fijian 50cent coin was also 12 sided.
👌
@42:00 this is not unique to 5c coins.
The 5, 10 & 20c coins are all the same composition, and their weights are in proportion to their denominations.
Canberra pronounced 'Can-bra', Melbourne pronounced 'Mel-bn' ( not Melben or Melbin) just Melbn as in "welcome". You're welcome (or should I write welcm, :))
Wow, I have never sat through so many ads in a relatively short video.

@@OnehungLowe Fair enough. But my main point still stands…far too many ads.

That might be an asking price for these coins but you’ll never find anyone to pay that.

Many errors were made with the changeover to decimal.
Its pronounced ekidna spelt echidna 😂 I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it the way you did but you did your best.
After 66 coins were referred to as cents not pennies.
