The Bhajan begins with a doha of Kabir. Being a weaver from lower caste, Kabir lived in an area close to a butcher's shop. Kabir gave his religious teachings sitting in what the "pundits" (of higher caste) considered an "unholy" place; for which they criticized him. Kabir, while not countering the criticism directly, via this Doha, took the discussion on this matter to a totally different level. In his humble way, Kabir teaches us here the idea of detachment. In spiritual texts this concept is likened to the existence of the Lotus - a beautiful flower that grows in swampy and dirty ponds and rises above it.
Here Kabir tells us to live in the world and focus on our own journey and not worry about the good, bad or ugly going on around us. According to him the world and its ways will take care of itself, that's not our job. We should focus our attention only on the real reason of coming to the world, to find out who we truly are. All else does not matter.
The composition clearly enunciate the glory of devotion and the bhakti traditions. We waste our lives in useless chores and make excuses instead of remembering the divine name. We are running behind riches and vain glory. We don't have faith in hearts and kindness in our actions these days. We need to come out of this facade and take the path of devotion, that'll lead us closer to self realisation and awareness.
Listen to this Bhajan in the melodious voice of Bablu Damami.

    Translation:
Says Kabir, your hut is near the butcher-house
Everyone will get it's doing, why are you in distress?
O brother, you lost this gem-like life, you live foolish without glorifying the lord
Never met the company of truth, never sung Hari’s grace
Suffering endlessly like a silly bull, O Ram, slept at night and ate during the day
    This world, a bumbox tree
Alike a parrot, you get enchanted
Whilst, hit your beak on the flower, cotton comes out,
You thump your head in regret
You live unconscious without repeating the true name
This world turns into a businessmen's market, the world arrived to trade
The wise quadruples his stock, the foolish lose the price
You live foolish without glorifying the lord
This world, lustful of its possessions, builds the castle of affection
Says Kabir, listen, O seekers, nothing lingered in your hands
You live foolish without glorifying the lord

"Sang Kabir" aims to restore the sacred nature of human being, the real awakening of our
hearts to peace, love and silence that is always present within. The event binds modern
mystics together, who bring, in their own unique and beautiful ways, an integration of many
spiritual paths. In order to bring laymen in ambit of Kabir’s world, we have tried to embrace
the traditional Satsang culture and develop upon it a holistic model that nurtures Kabira's
teachings. Its a 3 day event, organised at finest destinations with folk musicians, painters
and sculptors, authors and poets, and renowned artists.
"Sang Kabir" is a 3-day music festival, curated for seekers and travellers to embrace the enchanting world of Kabir.
