Meera's love legend was a fearless one; an affair unswayed by the opposing externalities of her life. Whether Rana's plots to kill her or the public trials of stating her immoral or debased, she stood against all odds for her subjectivity and freedom.
Rana, the King often is an enigmatic figure from her own matrimonial clan. After all the failures, he decides with a dagger to kill Meera himself. But how and whom does he kill? The whole palace is illusioned with numberless Meera, wherever he sees - nothing but Meera. A man's true love for something can make even the harshest hardships an easy play.
Meera's parables serve as a fierce example of a woman's struggle for self-identity in a time dominated by patriarchy and stringent norms. She stood for herself and forged an enduring story of devotion, one that continues to be sung and celebrated to this day.
A much-loved folk melody from Mewar, listen in the voice of Nathu Khan Bagadwa, a passionate Mir Singer from Jamsar Village who joined us in an informal Satsang at the farmhouse of our yatra kin, V. V. Patel. Nestled in Umta, Gujarat, the memorable session was joined by other artists including Arun Goyal from Malwa and Mir Basu Barkat Khan from Pugal with their respective troupes.

    English translation of the Bhajan:
My eyes slide in slumber, waiting for a sight
My tongue grew sore, calling for my beloved
    Oh! Your words
    O, the keeper of Mewar,
Meera looks sweet singing Hari's praise
O Meera, Show me your playful lord
Else, I will call your love false
    O mighty ruler, my lord?
    He is in my heart!
    Why does your bosom ache?
The mighty king went to kill her with a dagger
Around the whole palace, he glimpsed Meera
Meera tells everyone the grace of Girdhar
The rosy colors dyed me hard!
Meera looks sweet singing Hari's praise
