Smart engineering. When it blew I wasn’t impressed with the explosion. But you figured in using Mother Nature, the water, broaching the dam. Sweet.

Worked well. I've done it in a similar fashion. Instead of cutting a hole in the side, I left the bottom unwrapped and made it the weak point. I used 15 strips over the top and then wrapped it to the point it was about a 1/4 inch thick. When it went, it for the most part only pushed in 2 directions. It blew some of the backside down and out and lifted and loosened the top. The hydraulics of it started taking affect within just a few minutes. It was about the same size as your's there.

A couple of things that most folks dont know about beaver dams ..... 1) about 80% of a beaver dam is submerged, upstream of the crest/centerline of the dam. 2) All of the sticks, logs, grass, twigs, leaves, brush, etc are the "rebar" of the structure. It is the mud that is the true cement of the dam.

Good on ya. A win win. The natural local environment and the previously flooded land were responsibly restored. Really liked your narration. I retired in Baja, Mexico 2,000 mi. (?) from the nearest likely beaver; but we have our own pesky denizens, delicate environments, etc. to deal with. Glad to learn there are concerned folk in beaver territory.

I have found some huge clearings way back in between the mountains on the head of Hunting Camp Creek in the area of the Tenn.Valley Divides where Beavers had yhe entire valley flooded from the foot of Brushy Mountain clear across the Valley to to foot of Burkes Garden Mountain then a spring flood would come and burst the dam loose and a huge medow would be left in the valley floor .it is amazing to see how much water a few little Beavers can hold back when they get down to business.

Wow. Impressive. Never seen a beaver dam in real life. There seem to be some beavers near some areas near the Danube (the old one not the new canal , in the new canal the water has way too much force is moving too fast , also it's too deep and way too many huge boats around daily, but on the "old" sidearm / canal there are some areas where I could imagine asmall population to live...)
The only thing I see is the chew marks and typically shaped leftover stumps and sticks.....

@@stevendeatley4878I only now realise how much damage they can cause when building a dam in the " wrong place " flooding streets or wooden areas and cutting off water supplies to other areas , but on the other side they only do what their instincts tells them to do and maybe in some areas little room is left.....so I believe relocate them and let them do "their thing" where no agriculture or relevant structures are effected is a good way to go. At least for big populations.
I ain't no tree hugger or wolf cuddler, but I'd rather not have to shoot 70 animals. I'd rather have them trapped and relocated if in any way possible.
      Same with bears.
      You feed them ?
You create a problem.....at that point one could also shoot them, because they WILL CAUSE HUGE TROUBLE. But that's just my opinion, someone who will most likely never encounter a bear in real life....if not in the zoo in Vienna. But I'm fascinated with survival skills and outdoors videos.
The only danger in the city is taxi drivers who prey on slightly drunk women. .....( no , not a joke, it's safer to take the subway at 3 am..and that's sad)

If you would pack mud around your container of Tannerite, just like the tape does for making the container a stronger vessel, the mud when its packed in time, allows the force to push the dirt and sticks instead of escaping in the open air.

The best way to control beavers is to dig a channel through the dam. Then place a perforated metal culvert in the channel extending maybe 20 feet in front and behind the dam. The beavers cannot hear the running water and will not try to plug up the culvert !! Try it, it works great !!

The only other busting I saw done that was as effective as this was one where they filled a 3 -4 foot long piece of 2" pipe with tannerite and shoved it down into the middle of the dam as deep as they good get it. I think they used a metal pike to clear out a thin deep hole first for the pipe. The key is focusing the blast to be most effective. Sure beats the heck out of buying 50-75 lbs of tannerite when 2 pounds or less will do the job if properly placed..

it definitely does something. these guys do this for a living and if they could skip a step this tedious they would. they've probably blown hundreds of dams

Wayne, it would be difficult to get a directional effect out of Tannerite. The energy just followed the path of least resistance out the front of the dam. I always bury the charge on the water side at the creek bed. The water tamps the explosives making the path of least resistance through the dam. Cleans it every time.

actually the square he speaks of is correct ; the bullet momentum force ; does not allow the bullet hole as weakest point ;the speed of the explosion finds the square cut out as weakest point velocity of projectile blocks entry hole as exit for explosive pressure thus square cut out is first to give

Commercial dynamite would also be effective if you’re licensed to use it. It’s a lot easier to detonate and you can bury it if you initiate it electrically so that way you can focus more energy into the dam where you want it. Very well done though.

Thank you Mike. You're right about the dynamite, however most of the work I do is for municipalities where beaver have flooded sewage right of ways and I'm working fairly close ….at times literally in the back yards of a residence. That said, the Tannerite works best for me in these situations. Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and your feedback

I had a read up of tannerite. We don't have anything like that here in Australia and we wouldn't be allowed to own the required firearm with the capacity to fire it anyway. It appears to be a mix of fertiliser and aluminium powder, with other chemicals to provide the detonating power on a really hard impact. All in all a very safe thing. Although i did read where some clown let off a 100 lb charge. .

One of the reasons I did the video was because a lot of times people use way to much Tannerite. It's not safe economically sound or environmentally friendly. 100lbs is crazy!

there are formulas of tannerite that are lower impact and can be set off with a 22lr . usually 1lb at a time .

in Canada they dont sell this stuff, dynamite is easy to get so thats what we use.. ya take adrill with an auger bit. drill low in the dam about 2 feet deep, , repeat 5 or 8 times depending on the dam hight, stuff each hole with 2 sticks linking them all with bee line, put ether a wick burning cap or an e;;electric cap, all you need is a 9volt battery.. yup just a small 9 volt or even a 1.5 volt C or D size battery.. i like the electric caps as you have full control when its going to blow, sure you can cut the wick to length that will give you the time burn, but anything can happen with a time burn such as something walk out and now its burning say on a 5 min fuse and things get tense,, if you use the burn fuse know the time per inch of fuse well. even when my dad road bike with a club, they always had some with them when riding the back woods, as many times back in the 1950's 60's a dam would be flooding a road and it was ether turn back or blow the dam, works great to pop stumps out too

Do you ever try to harvest any of the beavers before breaching the dam? I was wondering if your presence would scare the adults away and be ready to start building another dam in the near future.
Also, beaver pelts are incredibly soft
