This band is so original that i can't tell if i'm sad for not knowing any other band with this talent or happy for them to be so unique. I know gorguts and deathspell omega are great too, but Ulcerate is just something else.
amazing song. this band it seems has an innate ability to be able to string together riffs and sections without you even noticing where the transition was. it all just flows in a big chaotic maelstrom of sound. beautiful chaos.
a month later and it still feels the same i really can't stop listening to this. this song is so goddamn FLAWLESS the atmosphere is so bleak it seems as if the guitars are SCREAMING everytime they reach their peaks this is just another stellar composition by the kings of dissonance and i CANNOT WAIT for the entire full lenght
Now I must say that the band had never disappoint in every record that they had released in the past, and based on the track below it looks like this new full-length is forming to be another beast of an album.
This is one of the most incredible things I have ever heard! I absolutely love the really crusty production as well, just totally adds to the whole feel of the song.
It sounds like a step away from their last (and IMO darkest) album, but I can definitely still hear the good old Ulcerate and the more I listen to this song the more I love it! The high quaility level of this band's songwriting continues to amaze me.
How did I forget Ulcerate? Goddamn... I haven't listened to them since Everything Is Fire first got released. So glad to see they still destroy. I was listening to Portal, and saw this in my suggestions. Man am I glad I noticed it. I needed something this well-executed as a break from all the slam/bdm and grindcore I normally listen to.
Well I'm an Ulcerate fanboy since everything is fire, Love their old and new stuff, especially this. Although, I can never help but be curious what it might sound like with high end shrieking BM vocals occasionally. . . Regardless I am stoked for this!!
Metal has the closest connection to nature than any other music. Nothing else walks the line between chaos and precision and brutality and beauty. That's where the parallel between classical and metal exists, but metal is more raw and powerful. Instantly transports me away from this superficial concrete jungle into a more pure state of mind. But it appears that i exist in the minority...
The minority is growing as the days go by. People are waking up and the mainstream is becoming an annoyance to most. Stay strong, the time for freethinkers is coming soon.
Oh its indeed like meditation, it gives contrast to the divinity of the life experience by transporting perspective to the other side of the spectrum This band might be the best at doing it by mixing those raw musical elements and the lyric content
Damn dude, I'm a full grown man but when I heard this, my balls dropped again. Can't wait to see them at the Direct Underground fest in Sydney. What a fucking line-up!
The vocal mix on this one compensates for the change in the forced style of Vermis, so they sound much better in comparison to the music this time; much needed reverb and even delivery over forced emphasis on the last syllable of every word. They're somewhere between the older albums and newer ones. I'm quite pleased with the new song.
I agree with everyone, the mix is a bit muddy, the snare is way too loud, a bit too fat and unfocused. But... my god.. this fucking song! like, HOLY SHIT! It's so fucking great. The crrrrrushing fucking brutality of the first half, and the more melodic, melancholic second half.
I think the part that starts at 3:40 and ends at 4:28 might be one of the smartest things they've done, and that's fucking saying something with this band
might actually surpass Vektor's album. That would be a close race with Meshuggah and Blood Incantation right behind. If you like Ulcerate then Blood Incantation is also your jam.
Has anybody except me and the band of course :) spotted the background riff starting at 07:06 ???? just listen closely, listen carefully and you will hear a great atmospheric riff in the background. it is fucking unbelieveable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Literally clicked on this by mistake, but it seems pretty good. Nice to know they're from NZ (same place as me) and nice that they're a good tech-death band. Better than the likes of Rings of Saturn etc.
Has anyone worked out any lyrics to this? The last couple verses he repeats at the end all I can gather is the song title in the words. 'Extinguish this light That which we -----"
Not even close. Fallujah have way to much "beautiful" in their chord vocabulary. Ulcerate, while demonstrating some melodic vividness in this song, have always been more "grotesque and bleak" than anything.
i didn't really enjoyed that one and I don't know why. I loved Vermis, The Destroyers of All and Everything is Fire, and i know this album is going to kick ass but fate just decided i wouldn't fall in love with this track. But i gotta say, i really don't like the way it's produced. People shouldn't have complained so much about Vermis production, which was perfect to listen with good quality headphones. The Destroyers of All definitely still has the best sound. I think they wanted to get a more natural sound with Shrines of Paralysis, which is totally fine, but they lost balance in their sound. And I can"t hear power from the bass drum, which is really sad. I hope this is not the final quality. After all, it's UA-cam.
it's dense as hell, and has stereophonic riffing (two different things happening in each ear at the same time). Not being able to discern nusic like that is a matter of cultivated skill, however.
My point exactly! It's distractive, while the kickdrum could have a slightly higher click. Still prefer Destroyers Of All's production, way more balanced and their finest. It reminds me of the snare sound in Behemoth's The Satanist... doesn't sound well. The song is great, though. Looking forward to hear the entire record!
compostition is good, it has it complexity and vibe, but its a bit too long, they could split it into 2 different tracks, because after 4-5 minutes its get a bit boring ... and whats with SO loud snare in the mix? :/ the doublebass are too weak though, almost sound so flat like on ...and justice for all xD
+forfrosne Right on cue. Overzealous fanboys assemble! Because I don't like one showcased Ulcerate song but like previous material? I think it's a boring song with monotonous vocals & bizarre buried shit production, deal with it.
Yeah. The production sounds god awful and that drum snare is annoying as hell. I'll keep my hopes up though. Hopefully this song isn't reflecting what the entire album will be like.
The "monotonous" vocals are far better than the overly forced and unnatural vocals on Vermis. These vocals with added reverb, rather than forced emphasis on the last syllable of every word compliments the music so much better.
This band is so original that i can't tell if i'm sad for not knowing any other band with this talent or happy for them to be so unique.
I know gorguts and deathspell omega are great too, but Ulcerate is just something else.
Kardashev and Aegaeon.
Portal
New albums from Anaal Nathrakh and Ulcerate the same day? FUCK YES!
And both the songs, this and Anaal Nathrakh's "Depravity Favours the Bold", are insanely good! I've become glued to both.
OHHHHHHHHHH MY GOD I'M LEGIT CRYING RIGHT NOW IT'S FUCKING LIT FAM!!!!!!!!!!
You mean extinguished, but YES HOLY FUCK

Besides of composition, the cymbal work of Jamie on this track is breathtaking.
This is so fucking sick, can't wait to see them on Brutal Assault next year!!!
Will attend too
Waiting for Jamie's drum playthrough :D
1:04 is he screaming BLASTBEAT? :)
xD
is he??????? wtf
it does sound like it hahaha I think he's saying "Grasping" :)
Well who doesn't enjoy a nice good blastbeat?
a good blastbeats a smile on my face ANYDAY! :D

whats your favorite of theirs??
This is one of the most incredible things I have ever heard! I absolutely love the really crusty production as well, just totally adds to the whole feel of the song.
How in the fuck do you even remember all of these guitar parts in order? It's like Yowie became an experimental extreme metal band.
It sounds like a step away from their last (and IMO darkest) album, but I can definitely still hear the good old Ulcerate and the more I listen to this song the more I love it! The high quaility level of this band's songwriting continues to amaze me.

Mitchell C. really niggga youneed to hear everything after everything...
Pretty sure I saw some bro at a mall with an Ulcerate shirt on. It all happened so fast...wish I had told him his shirt was awesome. DAMN.
This made me cry. Amazing.
I rarely experience much emotion when listening to music but man, Ulcerate can sure as hell arouse my inner fury.
Probably The Best metal track ever❤ Astonishing..
oh man yesss this band is incredible and this song is one of there best
Jfc this is brilliant. All modern "Tech" death metal should sound like this
Kingu Is Coming that will be boring ripoff a great and ubique soubd
Well I'm an Ulcerate fanboy since everything is fire, Love their old and new stuff, especially this. Although, I can never help but be curious what it might sound like with high end shrieking BM vocals occasionally. . . Regardless I am stoked for this!!
one thing to say to all the band mates
!stellar performance
Epic beyond words!!
Unique sound, as always!
The song writing here is tight as fark, they managed to make dissonance beautiful.
A fucking MasterPiece!!!!!
why do they always have to leave their best riffs short? i could listen to the outro for days.
TikhoaV33 you guys know any other bands with more riffs like that ending part, bands that don't skimp on the brutality? much thanks
caustic ayh caecus.drown within
so that they wont get worn out.
Gojira is a band that tend to have really great riffs repeat for a while. E.G From The Sky or Mouth Of Kala

Thanks Blastthany beattano for another great recommendation. That special edition vinyl looks beautiful!
2:00 top 10 moments in metal
This song sounds like the most beautiful thing capable of destroying the universe.
Album in my collection, thanks for vid.
This is damn fine stuff! Hope to see them live again sometime

fuckin WOW
Your face tells that too!
Fucking hell. If this is anything to go by, the new album will be their best yet
this sounds like it is recorded in demons womb, masterpiece
Who is the drummer, he is certainly one of the busiest and baddass drummer ever

Jaime's drum fills sound good at high velocity, and like this
Very good.
Can't wait to hear the whole thing! \m/
If that is anything like the rest of the album it will fucking slay!

Kalman Kovacs ulcerate obiously is superior !!!
Kalman Kovacs BI sound nothing like Ulcerate, that's like me recommending Morbid Angel to a Sixfeetunder fan.
*****
doesn't mean I can't recommend it. lol.
You like Cannibal Corpse? Check out Dissection. lol
this is a fucking trip and a half down metal lane.
First they are confirmed for Brutal assault 2017 and now this
Awesome
holy fuck incredible!!!!!!!
very nice!
This almost makes me feel like I'm trippin. Some intense fucking vibes.

Incredibly underrated
love the sound of the mechanical elephants screaming lol
Literally clicked on this by mistake, but it seems pretty good. Nice to know they're from NZ (same place as me) and nice that they're a good tech-death band. Better than the likes of Rings of Saturn etc.
Pretty pointless comparing ulcerate to RoS. They aren't trying to do the same thing
Yeah plus Ulcerate is a 1000000 times better
great track....
Let the madness begin \m/
Oh yes.
Good shit right here
guess i have to buy the album now \m/
Damn straight, son!!
Damn this crushes like bone beneath tread!
I was initially inclined to say that it sounds like a skillful DJ spliced Incubus into death metal, but I have to admit that it sounds pretty good.
Uh what?
Pardon me while I burst into laughter xD
Fuckin' solid song solid band
Has anyone worked out any lyrics to this?
The last couple verses he repeats at the end all I can gather is the song title in the words.
'Extinguish this light

album is gonna slay... pre ordered. And gaze in wonder at my name as I have claimed it :P
Do you reckon if they mixed it cleanly it would sound a bit like Fallujah minus the ethereal whammy bar notes. It'd be interesting to hear
Not even close. Fallujah have way to much "beautiful" in their chord vocabulary. Ulcerate, while demonstrating some melodic vividness in this song, have always been more "grotesque and bleak" than anything.
GORGUTS
Ulcerate the trve cvlt of Tech Death!
Is this the final mix & master that's going to be released?! Absolutely unacceptable.
I have to agree. the guitars sound a pinch buried and the reverb on the vocals is WAAYY to strong
I hate to admit it, but I think you're right.
Glad I wasn't the only one that felt this, the kick is buried to fuck, maybe they're going for a classic Immo sound. The vocals are so monotonous.
Sounds like a lot of reverb on the Vox
The fuck are you people on? This sounds great.
Incredible album. The snare is too loud in the mix though. It's a little distracting for me.
Death Prog Metal !!!!!
Fucking A+++++++++
\M/❤️❤️❤️
Do Ulcerate have an official youtube page?
No, but Jamie St Merat does
Thanks, I will look for that!

Way too chaotic for me, can't hear shit, but I'm sure the music is great because it's Ulcerate.
The first time you listen to it, it's very chaotic. After a few listens you hear the melodies and all of the sudden it makes sense
it's dense as hell, and has stereophonic riffing (two different things happening in each ear at the same time).

Sounding great, but that snare sound... come on...
whats wrong with it?
It's a bit too dominant in the mix while blasting.. great snare sound, organic.
All Ulcerate Drum Mixes are Like That Thats Their Sound
True, it's just the mixing this time that makes it mroe dominant.
My point exactly! It's distractive, while the kickdrum could have a slightly higher click. Still prefer Destroyers Of All's production, way more balanced and their finest. The vocals drip with reverb & I don't think I like it. But the rest is superb.
Jamie sounds like drum machine :/
You wouldn't even know it was him on this.
The production on Ulcerate albums has never quite shown off Jamie in all his glory honestly. This is nothing new.
+Thank Ydu GARGD Oh come on. OFAF displayed it very well, this stunts him.
***** Okay that's true OFAF has clean production.
Such a fucking shame, came here after his sickdrummermagazine's playthrough and hoped to get a better kick out of the actual studio recording.

How would splitting it into two tracks make it less boring? You would still listen to both tracks. Hahaha Do you even listen to music bro?
Ulsect>Ulcerate
ulsect is great but its still just diet ulcerate.
It better be fucking good. The last one was boring. Sad to admit this...
the last one was far better than the previous and better than the Gorgut's
Can't help it man. Didn't dig Vermis, loved Coloured Sands.
Colored Sands that was far more boring and less death metal to many people.
+Master colored sands was lame
@Master less death metal does not mean worse..
i don't know why, but the production sounds extremely bad to me in this video...
guess it was my headphones... sounds better on my laptop
