      @@poet79eyes I agree with the original commenter. You could watch this video several times over and still not understand what he means because he left out some key information.
      I have several questions:
      -Why is that particular part of the stem a “growth head”?
      -Why didn’t he cut off the other stem/leaf attached?
      -Does it matter which of them I cut if there’s more than one?
      Some things just were not made clear and that isn’t the fault of the viewer for not rewinding repeatedly. I will need to look for another video and hope someone else can explain it so I can confidently trim my own pumpkins without accidentally causing damage.

    I'm growing something that looks just like that and the package says Italian Rampicante Zucchini (or squash). Wonder if it is the same thing but the Amish call it long necked pumpkin?
    That's interesting. Thanks for showing it.

    Cool pumpkin. Never seen a pumpkin with a long neck. QUESTION: what kind is it? Is the flesh the same color and taste as regular pumpkins? 10 to 15 pounds per pumpkin, how do you support the weight on your trellis so the vines don’t break?

    • @keithwilkes7629
      @keithwilkes7629  5 років тому +4

      They're called long necked pumpkins. I believe that they're actually a type of squash that are sold locally in S.Central PA. The Amish grow them. The flesh is slightly a lighter yellow color and they fine from the racks. I tie the vines to the cross pieces with vegetable tape so they don't droop. We cook to soften, blend the pieces and freeze for later pie making. Beats anything you can get at the store.

      They sound delicious. What is the name of the farm? I travel through PA yearly when I visit friends in MD. I’d love their address so I could stop on my way through.

      Hi Linda,
      I bought one at a local grocery store 4 years ago and have been growing them with the seeds saved from the store bought pumpkin. I suggest calling Lancaster grocery stores late summer to see if they will be carrying them. Sorry I couldn't help much.

      In South Africa we call those babies BUTTERNUT SQUASH. Very nice for making fritters as it's not as watery as pumpkin

      I cut off the shoot but leave the pumpkin. Leaves more energy for the plant to put into the pumpkin instead of growing more plant. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

      You'll get larger ones by keeping it to 1 or 2 per plant. Or you can get several smaller pumpkins. Up to you. Thanks for watching.
