Jim and Stephany have been on an epic trip around the country visiting gardens and gardeners and I was lucky enough to get a call from him to come visit me in California! He is just a living encyclopedia, the biggest plant nerd and one of the best people. I had so much fun with him and will never forget this opportunity! 🌳 Enjoy!

I found it ingesting too the 0.19 acre thing...how do you work that out? Here in the UK we use acre or 'nearly an acre' half or even 3/4 I've never heard less used. I wonder how much I have. I need to find out. 😅

According to where you live‘Gardeningwithcreekside’, is in Dallas, North Carolina. Yes she means his volume is lower. It is. Either his mic is too far away or not on. She didn’t mean it maliciously.

Great interview. His story of picking tobacco when he was 12 is a great reflection of times gone by. When I was 10 in Maine, school let out for three weeks so students could pick potatoes. Farming wasn't advanced enough for harvesters yet. What a great treat to see them together discussing all things gardening.
Jim Putnam lives two hours from where I live now. I grew up an hour from Raleigh. My dad was a tobacco farmer, and my brother and I were working on the farm from the time we were about six. I could relate to his joke about "forced labor." My mother and grandmothers loved plants, especially flowers. They all taught me about plants and their care. I also have learned a lot from Jim's videos, especially the great plant people he interviews. I have enjoyed your channel and watching you grow as a gardener. I bet your parents have enjoyed watching your gardening journey as well.
Jim’s amazing after 25 yrs of gardening I found Jim’s UA-cam channel 2 yrs ago he opened up a whole new world of gardening for me I love his teaching technique.

Janey you did an excellent job in the interview. I too have learned so much from Jim. Years ago when You Tube wasn't such a thing I would search "Jim Putnam and the name of plant" I wanted to learn about before buying because he gave you the down and dirty about the plant very quickly and thoroughly. He was so helpful and knowledgeable. Thanks for the great interview. Fan of both channels.

I love what Jim is doing -- going cross country and meeting others to connect with them and learn more about plants!! He IS a great plant nerd, Janey, in the best possible way!! I live in South Carolina, so I have enjoyed Jim Putnam for years as he lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is extremely knowledgeable about all things in a garden. It’s amazing he’s at Janey’s! I watched when he visited ‘ Gardeningwithcreekside’ in Dallas, North Carolina. They are a Nursery that grows and sells on line Proven Winners and at their Nursery. Happy to see Janey ❤

I love Jim Putnam and this was a great interview! I live in zone 10b and I would get so frustrated listening to YT garden channels talk about dormancy, freezes and plants that I can't grow in my zone. I stumbled on Jim's channel and was immediately impressed because his information was inclusive of all the zones and growing in warmer climates! He's awesome!!
I have learned a huge amount from Horttube. One of the best points made in the interview is not to be paralyzed by the fear of making mistakes. In a similar vein, Gardener Scott’s “I am a Killer” video made a huge- and liberating- impression on me some time ago.
Janey, not sure why people are saying they couldn’t hear Jim but actually I could hear him just fine😊 Jim is the greatest! He has helped me with my garden!!! And I live in a totally different zone than he and Stephanie (Texas zone 9b).
Well, I’m definitely late to the party! I had no idea Jim had such informative content on his channel! I just butted someone out of their chair and play all the music you want, I’m staying! Thanks for sharing!

I used to read garden books , magazines and any articles on gardening, now I just watch youtube , there's a mountain of knowledge to learn from... it's very helpful to live in the same gardening zone 9b in Ca. As you Janey, garden centers sell lots of beautiful plants but not much knowledge about them, so thx for all the helpful info

This was so much fun to watch. You are two of my favorite UA-cam gardeners and seeing the chemistry between you two garden nerds (the best kind) was a pleasure. Plus it was fun to learn a few new things about Jim Putnam after having watched his channel for a couple of years.
This was such an enjoyable video! Janey, you are a natural interviewer, and you really know how to put people at ease. I chuckled when Jim was saying how he could not believe that he was interacting with all these well known plant people, when you had expressed the same thing about him being on your channel! I actually was not familiar with Jim because I mainly follow gardeners in California, but I will certainly check out his channel.

I'm with you, Janie - Jim is the best !!! how much fun for both of you to be able to get together and talk and wander your garden. And I totally agree with Jim - Dr. Dirr & Dr. Armitage are the absolute best - extremely knowledgeable and comfortably accessable. I'm blessed living in the Atlanta area to have heard both of them speak, and to have the opportunity to visit with Dr. Dirr at his breeding nursery and home garden. What a wonderful gift these two are to all of us. Great video - looking forward, as always, to seeing what's to come from both of you in your gardening future. You are both truly an inspiration to us all !!!

Hi Janey, I live in the Raleigh area and love Jim’s video’s and I also love your videos, I watch most of the videos both of you put out and for different reasons and the same reasons. You seem to be the nicest person and it exudes through your every moment. You are also great at showing the step by step everyday , behind the scenes gardening and so real and transparent and extremely enjoyable. I look forward to smiling with every video. Jim also seems to hold many of your characteristics while being a great wealth of knowledge and a fabulous teacher. Watching the two of you together was wonderful. Nobody that I have seen has asked Jim questions about himself and I very much enjoyed hearing things about Jim’s that I had not heard before. I hope you can heal quickly, thank you for being you.
I believe the issue with the audio is that it was recorded in stereo instead of mono. So, if you’re listening in stereo you can hear Jim OK (though he is still softer than Janey because of the audio mix or he is farther from mic or something) but if you listen in mono, it sounds like his mic isn’t on. The fix is to tell the phone to record audio in mono so it works for everyone.
I found that listening with my phone speaker instead of ear buds (especially just one ear bud) I was able to hear Jim fine.

I love Jim! I have learned so much from him. I am about a hour east of Raleigh in zone 8a and I believe I have watched just about all of his videos and Jenny's from Creekside..lol Actually he mentioned your channel and I found you via him. I am new to your channel but enjoy it so much as with Laura at Garden Answer, you guys are west and I am on the east coast, I still learn things from both and look forward to the videos. P.S. great job with the interview.
