Andy was an awesome host for this chat. Kept it on the rails, but let them cook. Asked the right questions with good context. The panel was the right diversity of focus' too. Great review convo.
Fantastic (fantazio?) review! Great job hosting Andy. Love whenever Michael joins, him Barrett and Bless are the perfect trio to give their thoughts on this. Loving the demo so far. Made it 40 hours into P5R before dropping off and haven’t gotten around to P3R yet, so this might be my first full game completion from the Atlus team!
I never really got into JRPGs but I've been obsessed with Yakuza for years, so when they recently started doing turn-based, I was apprehensive but ended up loving the games. Fast foward and a few months later, i'm playing Persona 3 reload on gamepass and it's awesome. Now, I'm stoked for this. I also picked up P5 Royal. Lets goooo!!!
When it comes to the team, it is not the entire Persona 5 team but just the leads and some other guys. A lot of the old leads are still on the remakes and Persona 6, they did like a split. The SMT teams did the same thing as well but just a decade ago or two even, holy shit i feel old. After Blessing said what he is usually into i thought of an Atlus Cyberpunk game and i now need that in my life.
Metaphor 2 being cyberpunk theme instead of high fantasy would be amazing. They can still follow the same political themes, just with a dystopian future theme instead of a fantastical medieval theme.
Andy is really good at leading review discussions. Great episode guys. Looking forward to trying Metaphor once I can afford it. It'll be my first Atlas game so I'm stoked.
I’m really sorry, and I say this with the same love in my heart for you guys that I’ve had all these years watching you: This SH2 take has to at least be a top contender, if not the winner, of worst Greg take. Not because he didn’t like it, but because his reasons seemed so contrived and willfully ignorant (either that or he didn’t express his thoughts well enough). Still love you tho bud just had to speak the truth…
So glad to hear Barret mention the start of the game isn’t the best section. I’ve been looking forward to the game for years, but wasn’t feeling the demo.
We need more Barrett on camera. I feel like the younger cast of KF can often reduce things down into giggly hot takes which is fun and I enjoy those but it’s really refreshing to see Barrett drop some really insightful takes on stuff. Let’s get more video essays and reviews from CEO Jnr please 🙏
Atlus said that they're not doing another definitive version of games after the initial game launched moving forward after the backlash for P5R and SMTV:V. They're just doing DLC for the games, it'll be expensive dlc but, at least it won't be a new version of the same game with added features.
Finally a reviewer saying he quit a game because there was other games to review and that he felt he didn't had the time to play it instead of saying the usual "it's too bloated". There are a lot of "bloated" games but I never trust the word of someone that had to play 90 hours in a week to tell me what's bloated or not.
Currently they are both on 94 but Metaphor only has 31 reviews at the moment. Later reviewers are often a bit harsher and a game often drops a percentage point or two. But perhaps this will buck the trend and go up!
@themightyant. Between astrobot, ff7 and this, metaphor is the only one launching on multiple platforms. Cumulatively, metaphor has around 70+reviews, which is still about half of those other games. I always find it difficult to appreciate the high scores when they have a significantly lower pool of critic reviews.
@@MRayGames yeah but there isn’t any other reviews coming out right now. It’s probably gonna be a slow burn when it comes to reviews coming in, I only see it dropping a percent, 93
@@fittedgosling5426 I don't necessarily expect it to drop by much, if at all. I just wouldn't call it the best reviewed game at this stage given its lower total review count. It also has one mixed review, which the others do not. I guess this is the issue with aggregates
Opencritic has 65 reviews and it's sat in 3rd or 4th overall for the year in terms of score think it's got a 93 or 92 amazing really for a new IP it will most certainly be in the convo for GOTY I think I'm deffo getting it as it looks to be a culmination of everything Atlas achieved with Persona and SMT.
I've been dodging reviews and such cause I'm a HUGE Persona sicko so I already knew I was gonna play Metaphor and very likely enjoy it, but I really wanted to hear Barrett's review and god damn that was the only vibe check i needed. I'm counting down the daaaaays!!
The voice acting thing to me is one of the biggest negatives. It really makes me feel like I should just skip the chat when they're not talking. But they probably will make a enhanced version with new voice acting and cut scenes
Hearing the IGN guy talk about how it's rooted in the real world and politics I just didn't see that. Just a really good sci-fi with a well carved out world. It's deep and good storytelling I'm loving it so far.
I really wish I could get into the music more 😕 I’m clearly not the audience as I played Persona for the first time at 5 BECAUSE of the style, but I was still disappointed at how weird(?) the musical style of this felt. To Barrett’s point, P5 invented jazz (jk) and thus that’s where my allegiance lies. This review does give me BAD fomo though. Demo didn’t grab me regardless but…I might still buy it…
As someone who really wanted to like and get into P5 Royal but couldn’t is it still worth trying or would you say they are similar to the point probably wouldn’t enjoy this one as well.
Andy saying he liked it, just didn’t “70-80 hours like it” is the most real thing and my relationship with P5. Enjoyed my time but not 100hrs worth of it
I played the demo and I loved the fighting, the characters and the overall story. Then I finally got to the day/night part where you're having to decide what to spend time doing and was like "oh no" Flashbacks to my time in p5 and p5r where I was so bored washing laundry or batting cages or movies
I find myself agreeing with this sorta sentiment these days. Honestly, I just don't have the time for games and stories that are THAT long. I wish more games would deliver a main campaign of 25 hours max or something. And then, have great side stories to compliment that for those wanting more.
@@AgentAika001awe haha, those were literally my favorite parts of P5, I spent sooo much time in the batting cages my first playthrough, I’ve now beaten P5 four times and P5R twice lol
I’m honestly pretty sad the people at KF haven’t played any mainline smt games. Hashino was known for smt nocturne before persona 3, and it’s my favorite game ever. I’m not exactly thrilled with some design decisions from modern persona games, which is why smtvv is my goty so far. A lot of talk about how Atlus does jrpgs so well but haven’t played any mainline smt, etrian odyssey, or things like devil survivor or strange journey. I know everyone’s busy, though but look out for their other stuff in the future! Anyways, excited for Metaphor. Played the demo and hard mode was challenging, so I’m in.
Yeah it's a bit jarring. Especially since SMT is where the true gameplay depth lies for Atlus games with systems so much more complex than Persona, especially since SMT games are way harder which forces you to understand the depth.
Persona is the more popular series if I'm not mistaken so it's not very surprising. I know many people who love Persona 5, 4, and now 3 Reloaded and have never played or in some cases even heard of SMT
I've dabbled with Persona off and on for a few years, never fully committed to it, (around 15 hours in P4 Golden and 4 hours in 5). I'm hoping this is the game that opens the doors to Atlus' games I think I prefer a fantasy power dynamic story over role playing as a teenager.
Damn this review got me so hyped I downloaded the demo right away and then I immediately lost all momentum. As someone who has never played an ATLUS game this demo was not very clear on what to do, super drawn out and very busy with all the ui elements and endless talking A pretty big miss for me unfortunately maybe I'd pick it up for $20-$30 if it ever gets that cheap but I almost had nothing In this first section that would bring me back to play the full game imo 😢
If Barrett wasn’t in this review I would not even have watched it because I have trust issues with the rest for always not finishing their games before a review
Andy brushing off Steam Deck is bizarre, because if it runs well enough on SD that’s automatically the best platform for this game. These 100 hour Atlus games should be played portably when possible
