This video was made prior to hlmods posting the guide to run it. Here it is, copied from hlmods' comment on the mod's page: To run this mod, you'll need to do the following: 1. Use Valve's VPK tool ([anysourcegame]/bin/vpk.exe) to extract hl2mp and cstrike source content. 2. Paste hl2mp and css contents into the mod's folder. 3. Edit gameinfo.txt and change all Steamappid parts to 215 4. In the bottom part where it says "Searchpaths", change both cstrike and hl2mp to |gameinfo_path|cstrike and |gameinfo_path|hl2mp The mod should launch. Note: if you try to play in a widescreen resolution, there is a strange black thing covering most of the screen. No clue why this happens, so if anybody knows how to fix it let me know!
Note that their instructions are misleading and I spend way too much time figuring out what was up. For point 1 and 2, what you need to do is have HL2 DM and CSS installed, copy the entire hl2mp (from Deathmatch) and cstrike (from CSS) folders in the mod's folder (so that you have an hl2mp and a cstrike folder inside the mod's folder), go inside of each, and unpack the VPK archives in their respective folders using a vpk tool, or more handy, gcfscape. You also need Source SDK 2006 installed.
One of the first Penny Arcade comics involves Gabe trying to buy a copy of Half-Life to play FLF but being stopped by employees because everyone should already own Half-Life.
Amazing video! Young people today will never realize just how big the HL2/Source engine modding scene used to be in it's prime! I remember a lot of promising mods in the 2004-2007 era witch were never released despite having a lot of content made for it. It makes me wonder if there are more old builds that will be leaked at some point. Please make more videos on obscure and forgotten Source/Gold source mods! It's my favorite type of content from you!
Never heard of Front Line Forces before, but I do remember playing Firearms and Wanted! Crazy to think of all those CS contenporaries that never made it. Good job getting these maps to work. Really helps with game preservation.
As someone who played this and other mods like Firearms I am so happy to see you covering this :) I would love to see you review The Specialists though it is multiplayer only and like all of this stuff dead.
I remember the thing “I can fix her/him” from memes when you were talking about to get running the mod, your videos are so amazing and you have a very elegant voice style.
@@tubesami Do you know what "WON Version" means? If not then its the original 1998 disc release of half life released by World Opponent Network, in short form "WON". The mod (Frontline Force) is 100% functional, however I think its some kind of beta or test release (It says 1.8) since the game feels unfinished. It doesnt have a unique menu and the hud looks weird. I think I downloaded it as a pack of mods from Internet Archive website.
@@marekzaborowski8320 Yes I know what WON version is. Just asking because not sure you even watched the video. FLF Source version is "lost media", not the GldScr version.
Wow FLF is a mod I haven't thought about in ages. At one point it was my most played HL mod after CS. I remember being excited that a sequel was planned but we obviously saw how that turned out.
You should check out the "Move-In!" mod. It's completely dead, but at the time of it's release it was absolutely stellar and had a lot of features I never saw in any other mod. I think you'd find it really interesting
What is it with 2024 and lost media being found? Is the tide of time going out and dragging things with it? Oh yeah. I think I threw away a USB stick of mine recently. I found out too late, but maybe it’ll find its way back. Or the files on some folder somewhere at least…
hope these maps can be brought to gmod for preservation sake or even someone that can grab this project and fix everything and make it playable. ik there r people technical enough for this project
The Rolls Royce of HL mods at the time, so disappointing it died due to a failed update that split the player base in two and killed it. There was a competitive STA league in the US for this mod, great fun.
You actually missed an important part of the story for this mod. Before 1.9 (the last gold source version), the dev released... 2.0. Yes, 2.0 was released before 1.9. 2.0 was a huge update from 1.8 that changed a lot of things, too much for the playerbase in fact, so basically the whole community stick to 1.8 (a bit like CS 1.6 and CSS). So the dev released 1.9, which was basically 1.8, with the updated graphics from 2.0. But at this point, the mod was already on its way out, the number count was very low, and I remember the dev saying CoD4 made the mod pretty much pointless. I strongly disagree with that statement, the whole attack/defend mode was cool, and the light class system and dive mechanics also made the game unique.

dude lost media THIS old just being posted like that outta nowhere is wild 😭🙏
It’s not that old lmao.
@@DukeBluedevil70I wanted to change how I phrased it but didn't feel like it lol
@@DukeBluedevil70 19 years is pretty old.
Why does that matter at all

SHUT UP WITH DARK N GRIDDY
THE BATE WAS LIGHT N BEATIFUL
nuh uh
we will never escape CSS
It’s always interesting to look through lost media after it being found. Feels a little bit like searching through a time capsule.
Lombardy is a region in northern italy
came to comment that lol
big if true

Damn, you posted this just as I was working on basically the same thing xd
Kickass video as always o7

I hope to see HL2 Alpha - Lost and War of Xen be found one of these days. Great video :)
I want to congratulate you to be the few ones who found the game. It took a long ride to find...Kudos Rad ;)
Dark 'n' Griddy mentioned! :O
The video even stopped right there after these words for me (because of lagging for loading), but it was spectacular and funny
6:37 Lombardy is a region in Italy
Domination was already a game mode in UT99.

There was nothing quite like Firearms

Good post mr Radiation Hazard, GOOD JOB!!! Keep it up!!! This vide is great!! i loveere it!!
Duuude thank you this is an awesome video and gift to the community!
Wow FLF is a mod I haven't thought about in ages. At one point it was my most played HL mod after CS. I remember being excited that a sequel was planned but we obviously saw how that turned out.
The intro reminded me of the old Mod NeoTokyo, and how i used to just explore the maps in that mod.
can't wait for NoClick to showcase every weapon
I probably have 1000 hours in this game. I played it the day it was released. I still miss it and think it has so much potential on Source 2
its time to wake up and view the content
Holy nostalgia Batman! I can't believe this actually came out.
certified FLF:C alpha moment
It's always a shame when something is lost. But well, good that things get found.
Nice overview! Thinking of going thru these maps myself and seeing if anything is worth porting over to hl2dm.
There is a mod called Lethal Agents that uses assets, weapons and maps from this mod.
Damn, i still remember mods like Hostile Intent and Firearms...playing them was cool, sad that they basically dead.
new source modding lore dropped :0
source mod + lost media + video made by Rad = best fuckin video (yeah)
This reminds me of when the builds for They Hunger Lost Souls were randomly released many years later.
Honestly, shit like this is the reason I love finding lost media.

Finally,
Dark and Gritty Lost Media...
4:40 HE SAID THE THING!
Fr tho, so glad you're still uploading and improving on every video. Been here since forever and will remain.
And now, we have another lost media found. :)
FREE TV!
This is the year of Lost Media or Lost Wave in general.
Try to get the game/mod running on a day one build of CS:S it uses assets from CS:S and is like CS, so naturally that may be where it all starts.
What is it with 2024 and lost media being found? Is the tide of time going out and dragging things with it?

As of 14 hours before this video was posted, hlmods posted a guide on how to run it on the mod's page
Video was made before said guide was posted
Holy shit frontline forces!
This is the moment when lost media stops being lost.
4:40 omg he said it. HE SAID IT 😅
I didn't know about this mod until this video.
I played loads of FLF when I was younger completely forgot about it
Lombardy is also a region in Italy (so a pun involving Doug Lombardi and cs_Italy)
Now if only the one build/demo of The War of Xen can be found.
Front Line Force is the closest we ever got of a tf2boa
I wonder how many more mods for HL: 1 and 2 have been lost to time...
❤️🔥
Yeah I played it back in the day! Liked it more that cs for some time
"huh,i got this old mod, maybe i should upload it"
4:35 Haven't head this term in a long time lmao
I found this game on my old computer and I thought it was just a normal mod so I didin't think anything
What's next? ACTUAL hl2 beta complete story from 2001-2003
Ahh, just like every GMod map.
Always the goldsource mods that do it first
Nice
Damn you're fast. Beat me to it
oh hell yeah radiation hazard voice update is live since when
Imagine if someone shares the war of xen lost demo
2005EB also lost but it was more like a sketch fest apparently
Yo raddy, what are your thoughts on the new Half-Life 2 Beta: Mega Build update coming soon
Im ecstatic about it. Can't wait to check it out.
Me 2, A LOT OF MAPS ARE GOING TO BE REMASTERED.
My Thoughts:
This is going to feel like Duke Nukem Forever 2001 Restoration Project
32 seconds ago is crazy
damn i never knew there is a mod exist
Combine Defiance
I wonder what a cod style game would be like in source
Looks like the Firearms mod.

Hostile takeover when ?
Make video about all tf source mods
