    Thanks for this Rikky, I have the R1250RS and thought about changing the exhaust but then I mainly ride longer trips and like you think this would be too load the original pipe is about right and in dynamic pro mode makes a few bangs and pops keep up the vlog

    Hi Rikky, i fitted a remus to mine sounds great but on hard acceleration it pops slightly and feels like the bike is holding back. i may try and put db killer in to see if it makes a difference.

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  3 роки тому +1

      I *thought* I could feel a slight difference without the DB Killer (like it felt a bit rougher) but I wasn't sure actually.
      Now the other day (be aware that I might be perpetuating a myth here) I decided to start the bike and let it tick over for 15 minutes. I have heard/read that this allows the ECU to adapt to the change of exhaust. I rode the bike today and it feels as strong as it did before the new exhaust so who knows if it made a difference!
      You will certainly get more pops now but they tend to be when you come off the throttle at lower revs.

    Hey Rikky Tang, a great choice, the best for a BMW boxer🙂
    I've had for 6 years this LEO sliped on my 1200RS > amazing.....BUT as your experience, without DB Killer to loud, BUT LOVELY...and a problem of original DB Killer is that's only a pipe, both sides open!!! Means, okay, lower than 4500/5000 rpm, BUT full fire the sound goes directly out through the pipe:-( tooooo loooud.....so I bought a second original LEO DB Killer, has to be extra manufactured, not stock, similar pipe, but with a cap on inner side AND with slits...much more better, same sound as original DB, but the complete range acceptable:-))))

      I'm still trying to figure out if it affects fuelling... I think it might be making the throttle pickup a little weaker at low revs (i.e. under 3k rpm) but I can't be sure... if there is a difference it's marginal. @@lennykibbs260 Well if it has affected anything it just feels like the throttle response is a bit "fluffier" and the pull isn't quite as consistent when you open the throttle under 3k rpm. But I'd have to put the DB killer back in and test again to be sure.

      As you may have seen in the videos that followed this one, I ended up selling this exhaust eventually. There was a small disk in this exhaust which actually made the end can quiter but also robbed this bike of power. I didn't think this disk would be a problem to begin with until I finally realised that it was causing the bike some problems. Once i removed that disk I could not makes that end can quiet enough and thats why I sold it in the end. In hindsight, if I had thought of making the type of home-made db killer that I am now using i the SP Engineering end can, I would have kept it. Sorry for the long reply!

    Excellent video! I miss seeing some of your videos so I am going to ask questions about this as well as a recent video that I watched with you trying out different screens on the bike. First I want to say I think you are a mad scientist and that is why I enjoy your videos so much! You are an exciting person to watch because I admire thinkers. Did you get any power increase out of this after market exhaust? Did you just change it for appearances? How much did this aftermarket exhaust weigh? I saw the stock exhaust weight but not the aftermarket exhaust weight. I was thinking that you would keep the DB killer in to minimize the sound of the exhaust. What other exhausts can you put on this bike? I was impressed that you did your research and took a chance on this although it says it is for the other bikes that you mentioned. On another note, regarding the windscreens in your other video. It was not clear to me which one you preferred because there were concerns noted about both, although I think the taller one worked. Did either give you more wind protection than nothing? And do you only use it for highway and long distance travels? Also, how many miles are on your bike now and do you still enjoy it like you had hoped and any regrets getting rid of your sport bike? Thanks

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  3 роки тому

      Right then Paul, let me sit down with a nice cup of tea and I’ll go through your questions! First of all, thanks for the mad scientist analogy, that did make me laugh! I guess it all comes from a background of making do with the things I have around me and not being able afford the best products available.
      It turns out for me the new end can was a big mistake. I actually lost power with it fitted but I never noticed the power loss until I went on that track day. When I re-fitted the OEM exhaust it felt like I had gained 15-20hp from what I had gotten used to. I think the Leo Vince exhaust needs a remap and dyno time to work with my bike but I have no desire to spend that sort of money and so I’ll stick with the OEM exhaust for now. The new exhaust was 3kg lighter than the OEM, but I couldn’t really feel the difference. I was planning to use the DB killer but I fell in love with the sound of thunder without it! And yes I took a chance on it, it hasn’t worked out and that is usually the way I do things 😊
      With the windscreens, neither of them were perfect but the taller one caused a lot of turbulence and I couldn’t use it. The smaller screen does cause a bit of buffeting on the top of my helmet but it does have the effect of keeping some wind off my shoulders and also the screen provides protection for the instruments and so overall it’s worth keeping on the bike.
      I never really done long distance travels on a bike apart from a couple of trips to Spain and France. Currently I rarely ride more than 200 miles in a day but I do hope to ride some longer distances in the next month or two before we move into Autumn. My bike is up to about 3700 miles now… this is awkward because my motorbike insurance has a mileage limit of 4000 per year! The insurance doesn’t renew till next April and so I’ve got to modify my policy! But it’s all good, I’m really enjoying this bike so far! No regrets of selling the S1000R - this bike suits me better 👍

      @@RikkyTang Thanks for responding. I just watched the video about your exhaust and losing power with the aftermarket exhaust on it. That is interesting because I have read and heard that aftermarket exhausts can be put on a bike with out re-mapping or using a power commander and there could be some horse power gains and of course a better sound. However, I was under the impression (which is the second line of reasoning) that if you need to remap the the system and or power commander. I did use a power commander on a Ducati 998 that I had along time ago with and aftermarket exhaust. (Remus). But, I am still surprised at the amount of loss of power that you experienced. I think also re-mapping the system and power commander is a way to avoid back firing etc. Did you put a lot of money into the upgraded exhaust and what will you do with it now? Regarding the windscreen are you going to ride with out it now and not use it at all? Should you use and even taller windscreen to get better coverage? I am interested in considering a R 1250 R and when the 2022 come out here in the US I will take a look at it and go for a test ride. That bike has been on my mind for a long time. Thanks

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  3 роки тому +1

      @@p-dub7422 Hi there, yes there are differing opinions, claims and experiences when it comes to fitting aftermarket exhausts. You’ll see a lot of adverts saying “no adjustments or remapping required” but then when you look at the small print it’ll say “for optimum performance a remap may be required”. Frustrating! But in my case if I had noticed the power drop off straight away I would have immediately removed the end can, but I just didn’t notice it and I was too busy enjoying the noise it made! Also I knew that this can wasn’t designed specifically for the 1250 and so I know I took a chance on buying it. The exhaust cost me £350… not sure what I’ll do with it now… I did try to have the DB killer welded back together but the guy who I asked to do it said that in his opinion it wouldn’t make a difference to how the bike would perform and he didn’t want to take my money! I may still get it welded up anyway (or buy a replacement if I can find one cheap) because I would like to know for sure.
      When it comes to popping/backfiring after an exhaust is fitted, to my knowledge that is usually fixed by disabling/removing the PAIR system. That was certainly the case with my Bandit 1250 but things may have moved on since then!
      I’ll be keeping the sport screen on - overall it’s slightly better than not having the screen at all, and also 1) it keeps bugs of the back of the instrument panel and 2) I can mount my GoPro behind it which keeps the bugs of that lens too. I do not want to start buying alternative screens though… I went through that with the Bandit and I went through five different screens without ever finding one that worked for me. The current screen is good enough, just about!
      The R1250R is an underrated bike I think… more torque than a KTM Superduke 1290 but designed more for real world speeds - I think you’ll enjoy it!

      I prefer top boxes to side cases... rigid side cases make the rear of the bike very wide and I think I will hit them against something one day when a taking tight turn... against a parked car or a post! And I'd have to remove them before I left or returned to my house because the entry to the rear of the house where I park the bike is very tight.
