- David Gray together with his band (Tim Bradshaw, Craig McClune) and the BBC Orchestra performing "Who knows where the time goes" which was originally written and performed by the Fairport Convention and later sung by Nina Simone.
As a lifelong fan of Fairport Convention, I found this version incredibly moving. Awesome job. ❤
@Official David Gray you're so welcome. Thank you for taking the time to notice my comment. I have always enjoyed your music but your take on a Fairport classic moved me to actual tears , it's just a shame it's not available to buy. Much love xx
It’s unreal!! Sandy Denny is listening from somewhere and undoubtedly loving it.
David’s version of this song is absolutely beautiful I have never heard it sung so heartfelt. He is an amazing singer
Love his version but also listen to Susannah Hoffs version, it is equally as good! ❤
He's amazing ❤
Driving back to dads shortly after he passed when I heard this on radio 2. Had to pull over as it moved me to tears. Thank you David Gray.
Bless you ...
Amazing version , The BBC needs to release this on a compilation album of these sessions .
This is up there with the best song interpretations ever. Thank you, David Gray and BBC. It's hard to stop listening to this.

This is so beautiful, I hope this gets released as a single, incredibly moving ❤
Please please release this!!! Absolutely beautiful. So moving 🥲
David Gray never ceases to amaze with his own music and occasionally he puts out a cover of a song that means so much to others, but he makes the song his own...
This version with him and his piano and the Soothing accompaniments of the orchestra is stunningly emotive, soothing and just perfect.
This song haunted me from the first hearing, it manages to capture something ineffable and intangible, while also being solid and real, hits you squarely in the heart. Excellent version David, you have a way with you lad.
Heard this on radio 2 piano rooms weeks ago on radio , it left me speechless . Amazing song , voice and orchestra
@Official David Gray please release this , it’s amazing “ who knows where time goes “. Simply sublime
I listened to Nina Simone for four decades - you two are so different, yet just the same! You do this so beautifully, David -brought me to tears!
Perfection in every way

David has delivered a great cover of a beautiful classic written by the wonderful Sandy Denny
I heard this on the radio at a time when It was really what I needed. Stunning.

Amazing voice and song ❤️

Best male version of this great song.
Absolutely love this version, knocked me for 6
Me too x
Absolutely beautiful. 💯
What a fabulous version of this wonderful old song. Great voice 😍
Great singer songwriter with the humility & ability to perform Sandy Denny's timeless masterpiece.
Since I found this video I have returned so often to sit back and listen to this wonderful version. So touching…….
Superb! Simply beautiful.
Such a beautiful song and I love David Gray's take on it. Not sure why it makes me cry but it always does. Perhaps cos I'm getting old. Agree, the best of the piano room sessions so far.
I think it makes us cry as the sentiment is universal and the wistfulness of time passed is real
Well......actually originally written by Sandy Denny before she joined Fairport Convention; and it was included in '67 on the Strawbs album "All our own work" (which took to 1973 to be released). Judy Collins did a version that was released in 1968 both as a 'B' side to her version of "Both sides now" and as the title track of a subsequent album. After joining Fairport Convention the song was re-worked......and that became the definitive version.
Superb!
sublime performance of a great song
Really well sang and orchestra created fantastic .
Bravo David. My soul tells me you understand the sentiment of this beautiful, timeless Sandy song. Absolutely wonderful my friend
Beautiful song. 😍
This is a beautiful song. The end. X
OMG I have been transported to a field full of Curlews and breathless views thanks! National treasure now David and glad you can expand your repertoire and enjoy your public, total respect!
Awesome great music song great concert
I've heard Sandy's version, Richard Thompson's version and many other artist's versions so many times but I love this one the best.
Fairport and Nina, David is in polished company but this is utterly remarkable. The best singer / songwriter of the last 25 years is not even a question but this is another level and another string to his not inconsiderable bow. What a gift.
oh my, amazingly written and performed
deep beauty, so you left space and time you walk on the line to the other side
thank you for this inspiration
So beautiful, TY dear man!!
What a great version, love listening to this. ❤
Such a wonderful cover of this song. I keep coming back to listen to it over and over again. :) Great arrangement and David's voice lends it that emotion needed for the lyrics.
Chills listening to this beautiful tune and how all musicians are just pristine, thanks much you all🤍
I heard this on Radio 2 about two weeks ago and have listened to it at least once a day since. I love David Greys music he is so underrated it’s criminal. Went to see him in Birmingham for my 40th although because of Covid I was 43 at the time 😂 worth the wait 💯 %
Incredibly beautiful! Thank you!
Simply brilliant, what a guy
Love this version so very much .. I just melt at the orchestral instruments that are just so devine and I love David Gray .. thankyou thankyou thankyou .. It makes me think and love and cherish and feel that there is some beauty in this world. I admire you all ^:^
The original version and songwriter is the late Sandy Denny. Nanci Griffith also did a great version on her Other Voices Too album. Sadly, she passed away in 2021.
Thank ya David for your music of life 🫶❤️✌️
Absolutely love this song sung by David makes me cry, its so touchingly fantastic xxxx
I love David Gray...this years love makes me cry
Absolutely beautiful rendition of my favourite song ❤
Fantastic what a performance not only by David but the Orchestra absolutely amazing.

Nailed. The best version, Sandy would smile.
❤Such a beautiful version.. 👍..♬ so well done by all here. ♬ ❤
David is outstanding.. once again. ❤
WOW❤
Beautiful...thank you....
Love this ❤
So beautiful
The best
I only discovered this beautiful song, a few months ago. All thanks to Brian Cox and his Universe tv show. It is truly stunning and DG does a lovely version. There is no getting away from it but Sandy Denny and FC’s original version is unmatched.
Amazing singer.
Both my daughters moving away x i miss them dearly x who knows xxxx
Thank you
I love you
Please everyone listen to the cover by Nanci Griffith and keep her memory alive for a little longer
He could sing the phone directory I would cry
I don't cry.............i do now......f..k...n.....ell....thats hard to listen to David.
Underrated
I did not know that this cover even existed. Wonderful. Thank you Mr Gray. You must have had real belief in yourself to even think of taking on a cover of a song by 'The Lady', most people would have been too afraid. Sandy was IT. If you haven't got the boxed set of 'The Notes and the Words', get it.
Try a cover of the late Nanci Griffith's 'Tonight I think I'm Go Downtown'; you're the only one that could.
Time is fleeting make yourself happy x
❤
Ineffable. I used to think I could sing like David...this completely disavowed me of that notion!
❤️🙏🏼❤️
how to develop your voice by David Gray
Dearest Sandy would be so proud , 🎉❤❤
Tine for the Robin
for fun:
1) Sandy Denny
2) Nina Simone
3) Susan Cowsill
4) Rufus Wainwright & Brandi Carlisle
5) David Gray!
Good Company! Full Steam!
He's never done a bad cover that I can think of - and many of them eclipse the original.
I thought I hated covers in general until about 4 minutes ago
Some put out bubblegum crap and some bare their souls... and ours.
Written by Sandy Denny. Good version but the Faurport original is still the best.
But of course the original by Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention is the best
I'm sorry but this doesn't touch Sandy.
Nor should it.That was her interpretation of the song. This his own interpretation of the song and I think this is beautiful.
I'm with sixfootbear. There can be more than one beautiful version of any song. I think this one is stunning. I admit, I'm a huge DG fan. Brandi Carlile and Rupert Wainwright do a lovely rendition of WKWtTG as well.
@@sixfootbear Not sure if Sandy Denny's version should be classed as an "interpretation". It's her song. She wrote it!
@@tomobedlam297 It is still her interpretation of the song.Just because she wrote it does not somehow make it exclusively hers..
This is so beautiful, impeccably sung by David. Thank you so much x
I don't like the way he is doing this. This is a quiet ballad. More is not always better.
