Thanks for the update Kenny. I'm a little surprised the transfer switch didn't like your jumper from neutral to ground wire you tried in the customer's panel. Learned something today! I like your Hillbilly RV helpline ad, and hope it works well for you. I have done calls for pay, but with only an agreement they'll send a check...which 90% of them actually do. I like your way better. I start at $50 for silly stuff like reset a GFI or turn the water heater bypass valve (my most common call), and $100 for more complex fixes.
I rewired my two garages and the way they had done the DIY project was scary and dangerous. I put in underground wire from the house to the garage and added a breaker panel and I put two 10’ ground rods 12’ apart. I ran individual ground wires to each. I figured it was a good idea being that one is a metal building.
Thanks for the feed back. By the way, the progressive dynamics hard wired EMS unit is working great and not giving me problems like the Southwire unit did.
Thanks for the follow up video Kenny. Also, it’s nice to know that I can call you (or Bill Hilly if you are at the swimming hole) if I get stumped on a problem. 👍🙂✝

I have a few questions. 1. What method of conductors was taken from the panel to the receptacle? I thought you said a 4 conductor cable meaning 3 conductor with ground. Black, red, white, and bare. 2. Correct? I’m assuming black to breaker, white to neutral, red to nothing and bare to nothing in the panel. 3. Correct? 4. Was the bare connected to the ground point in the receptacle? 5. You said that you peeled back the insulation on the ground and connected it to neutral, but it still did not work. What color insulation did you peel back?
@ I can not comment on how connecting the bare equipment ground that was connected to the ground pin in the receptacle to the neutral bar did not work. Without seeing first hand everything involved, I’m skeptical that all facts are known. You connected the bare in the panel to the Neutral bar in the panel, or to the panel metal can? I can say however that the equipment ground to a ground rod connects with a high resistance connection back to the utility company. Enough that it tricked the sensor. The problem is, in electrical systems, “tricking” things can end up not good. Have you ever heard of hot skin on an RV? That is when a L1 or L2 conductor touches metal while energized. With no “low resistance” path of equipment ground back to neutral, the breaker for that circuit will not trip. There is not enough amp flow to cause it to trip. So, keep this video up where you state that You did not do it!
Good morning Kenny , I had made the statement to you a little while back that I was going to use a EG4 6000XP and install it into my motorhome. The 6000XP doesn't detect if the power you are hooking up to has a natural ground or not. Seems the Victron will detect this and correct this problem its self. The power company requires only one natural ground to be applied . This is no matter how may electrical boxes or sub boxes you have . The fact is if you have more than one natural ground the ac power will not work correctly as well and can cause bad problems. The power coming from you service provider has a center tap of the 220Vac . This center tap is grounded thus you have to have at least one natural ground in order for the power to work correctly or this is the way I understand it ! Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong , because I'm often wrong lol . This is the most hardest part to understand about the natural ground system. God I hope I got this right and don't sound like a fool. I could to into more detail but then might be more of a stupid of a reply.
Bonding the ground wire from RV outlet should have fixed it (neutral is a ground). Is it possible that the alarm was set when you connected the ground wire to the neutral bar. If so the alarm will not clear until you disconnect the RV cord and reconnect. I had this same problem with a champion gen that had a open bond neutral. Love your videos, Kenny

Glad someone else is doing this too.
Good update, I thought just adding an earth ground would be worth trying, happy it worked for you.
The customer did it v
That was the first thing that entered my mind was offer an earth ground. Good job Kenny 👍👍👍👍
Me too
Good deal. The homeowners solution is what I would have done also.
Me too
That's great, you and the customer figure everything out. Great explanation. Don
Yes we did
AT 8:20 - tying the neutral and ground together in the panel box is a great way to "hot skin" the RV. Ask me how I know.
How do you know? 🤣
Sounds like someone got a tickle.
Nice follow up, thanks.😊
You are welcome

For sure.
Yeah, I only have one rod that mine is grounded to. Mine was built in '83. Glad that worked for him. If I have an RV problem, I'll call you.
1 rod was common for a long time.
Good job. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks

1. Just an insulated cable.
2. Yes

5. No insulation

I cannot confirm or deny your statements, because I don't know either.
I’m guessing having things grounded is for safety of us stupid people
I believe the 2025 NEC requires two ground rods on new service now, so i wonder how your power company gets by that.
Good followup. Keep up the good work.
Thanks

I wonder if the transfer switch didn't like the ground tied to the neutral because you were getting some ghost voltage on the neutral
Couldn’t answer that
Grratjob
