When I think of all the money Allison lost when it refused to built transmissions to keep up with the 1850 torque rating of today's higher horse power engines it's a staggering amount of lost revenue. It took them 30 years but its great to see Allison transmission back on top! The best Allison ever! To bad it took so long I would buy one but my driving days are over.
Allison transmissions are amazing. Drove a 2016 freightliner cascadia and that thing was nice and smooth. Then a 2021 freightliner and that I-shift was horrible, it would get stuck in a low gear, u would bounce in your seat while it figured things out smh. Allison all the way!
I have the same setup in a Western Star.. my question/problem is when I go down hill and activate the engine brake it gears down to 4th or 3rd to have the engine at max revs of 2200 and slows me down so fast that I keep having to accelerate over and over making me use almost twice the amount of fuel as I did with the Eaton transmission on the same engine.. is this how it should be or is there something that I am doing wrong? PS.. this is my first time experiencing the Allison 4500.
You can have it programmed in the Allison software. It's a preselect down shift option for the engine brake. Have you tried running in a lower setting on the switch? It will still down shift the same, but maybe not as hard. Some manufacturers also have two options for the engine brake, one is the switch that will activate the jakes when the throttle is removed. The other, is a separate switch that only activates when your foot is on the brake pedal. On this option, it only down shifts when the RPM's become too low. You can have it programmed so when the jakes come on, it doesn't do that. If you have the 4500, go into the option's and for preselect, select 5th gear. If you have 2nd gear selected, it will down shift aggressively all the way to 15 mph. If you have it in 5th, if you're doing 60 mph, it will simply preselect into 5th, and then it will not down shift aggressively at every chance to hit the redline. I hope this helps.
Question : Is that fully loaded 80,000lbs or just bobtail? Because who gives a @$% if you can get to 75 that fast as well as go into 4th gear and slow down if you're not loaded.
Rocky Mountain Peterbilt's yes, it will help you accelerate if you're running with a load. I believe the extra ratio also closes up the others, so the gap between them isn't quite so big

Thing goes 0-60 faster than a BRZ

That's faster than my Jeep Cherokee! But so is everything else..
Hi. What would the rearend ration be in that truck?
3:55
Perfect in any way. Can you tell the model of torque converter installed in this truck? Greeting!
I have no idea what model of torque converter.
Is it noisy on the outside when at idle
is the allison really a 20k transmission??????
Yes. Great transmission but very expensive.

Would this work good for ag application pulling silage wagons in and out of the field
yes.
Can that transmission go inside a 389?
Yes, but not in an extended hood.
Why can't go in a extended hood?
Very good automatic
Enjoyed the vidio; really impressed with the Allison. How much more $ is this vs.18-speed manual?
Eaton 18 speed from dealer is $6k option, allison is $20k option

Bobtail.
Yea man I’m wondering how it’ll do with a load by not being a 10spd.
Military has been using them to pull 200k pounds for 60 years I'd say it'll be alright
Is this transmission available on the 579?
Yes. It is available.
Rocky Mountain Peterbilt's get the 4700, seven speeds instead of six
@@kevinbarry71 That only gives me an extra low gear. Not an extra top end gear.

A go pro mounted to a hat will suit you well just a recommendation for the driving videos 😎
Good idea!
i hate to drive them when i am loaded and on an uphill i like automated one when i am loaded but i like quick shifting of this transmission (allison)
The only automatic transmission I like, other then that I stick to manual transmission.
Jake < it does not have JAKES.. it has ONE engine brake. Jake (Jacobs brake) is not plural.
