My dad used to say the Toyotas would last forever. That was back then. My fellow MZ friends say Hyundai is the one to choose instead of Toyotas or Hondas. Certainly, time has changed and Hyundais have come a long way! In 2024 and on, Hyundais and Kias are killing it.

ENOUGH with the reliability. H has a MUCH better warranty in Canada and the USA. H has stepped up hugely in features, comfort, materials and look. T is sitting on their LAURELS for over 10 years. The DCT had one big failure with Car Confections and suddenly ALL DCTS are bad. Cmon guys. Last Gen was DCT was fine...This one will be as well...AND...way more fun to drive. Quick shifts and brings back fun in driving. That 2.5 is a proven engine used all over the place as well as a Base Genesis G80 at 25 K more cash. Porsche and Corvette have DCTs. They are PROVEN. Its a wet clutch 8 speed that is constantly lubricated and will be fine.
Besides MOST new car buyers will trade it after 5 years and buy another and let the used car market figure it out. I dont drive a new vehicle for 10 years. Too much new tech every year. 3 YR Vehicle dependability studies (JD Power) on H and T say they are virtually TIED now in reliability. Facts are stubborn things. They dont lie. Toyota recalled 1.000 000 Rav 4 Transmissions last year...every brand has issues...
I have owned a G70 (All H parts) for 5 full years. NOT one issue....This Santa Fe is a game changer in comfort and features when you compare apples to apples.
The world is changing...just many folks dont want to admit it.

Just picked up my new Santa Fe Hybrid, and while the ride is smooth, there are some features missing that left me disappointed. The reviews showcasing all those bells and whistles? Most likely focused on the top-of-the-line Calligraphy edition. I went with a more budget-friendly hybrid trim (SE or SEL), and it's lacking in some creature comforts I expected. Here's a glimpse of what I found lacking:
Limited Storage: Finding decent-sized compartments for everyday items proved tricky.
Manual Passenger Seat: The passenger seat lacks power adjustments, which can be a drawback for some.
No Panoramic Views: Forget the sunroof or a fancy glass roof - this trim level doesn't offer them.
Glove Compartment Shortcomings: The glove compartment itself is tiny, and the additional compartment above it barely fits your hand.
Limited Cargo Visibility: The lights in the back don't provide enough illumination to see things clearly when looking through the rear hatch.
Missing Essentials: To my surprise, even basic floor mats weren't included in this trim level.
Sunglass Struggle: There wasn't even a dedicated drop-down compartment for sunglasses, something even my older 2012 Pilot had!
And More: These are just a few of the inconveniences I noticed. There are many more features that make this base trim feel a bit lacking compared to the higher-end options, or even some older cars.
Lesson Learned: Definitely do your research on the specific Santa Fe trim level's features before buying, including even seemingly standard items like floor mats and sunglass holders. Hopefully, this heads-up helps others avoid a similar surprise!

I've owned both. A 2013 SF and 2017 Highlander. Toyota is hard to beat for long term reliability and resale value, especially in hybrid trim. In Ontario, get a quote from your insurance agent. The Highlander is a high theft vehicle and rates have gone way up. I'd go SF if you want a fun date, I'd go Highlander if your picking someone to marry.

I have a '23 Tahoe, and my wife has a '24 Palisade. The Palisade has Nappa leather, auto brake hold, rear sun screens, acoustic glass on first and second row windows and massaging driver's seat. My Tahoe has nothing like that. And now my Tahoe is having transmission issues, while the Palisade runs like clockwork. We don't do high miles so we're not concerned about the engine exploding before 100K. Plus she'll only keep her car for 3 years. GM needs to start putting more things in their cars for the money they charge. I know this is not a GM comparison, but my point is, Hyundai gives a lot of bang for the buck.

My immediate thought is longevity, the hood part is a good example - it's such a small sample but to me, it probably plays out throughout the entire lifetime of both vehicles, that Toyota will probably last many years longer than that Hyundai (and with much less repairs and maintenance). Using the hood part as an example, I'll bet those hood struts start pooping out after 3 or 4 years and the hood latch probably has a recall in 2 yrs hehe.
