In this lesson, you'll learn 5 beginner bass lines that people will recognize and love - and get people to pay attention to YOUR playing.
You see, bass is usually a 'supporting' instrument that goes unnoticed. There are tons of easy guitar riffs or piano riffs that people know and recognize, but if you played the bass lines to any of those songs, people would just look at you and say,
"What the ^$&* was that supposed to be?"
The bass lines (even the easy bass lines) aren't very recognizable. However, there are a few gems - a few songs where the bass line IS the song.
These are the kind of songs where people will immediately recognize the bass line and start singing along. And the best part - these are BEGINNER bass lines. They're a great place to start.
So next time someone asks you to 'play something' (I can't stand it when people say this...) you'll have something in your arsenal that is guaranteed to impress.
Cheers,
Luke

I've been playing bass for 2 years and THIS video was my starting place, I thank you so much Luke. I remember the day that I watched this video and played Seven Nation Army to my friends on discord...
This is AWESOME @Kaan Septicher! Thanks so much for letting me know - I love hearing stories like yours. They put a massive smile on my face.
And Now Is my turn I just watched the video lol.
@@princeofdead i pass the bass to you, from one player to another. I hope you become a great bassist
What did you do after learning the stuff in this video? I'm trying to learn lol
Now it’s my turn, tomorrow my Bass will arrive, I’m so excited to play it :)

I've been playing bass for over a year now and for some reason I still watch every "beginner basslines video" I see
Ariel Oudmayer iv been playing for YEARSSS and still do too
Haha! Nothing wrong with that at all!
Same here.

Three words you'll never hear at a party: Play some bass, lol.
You gotta go to better parties, dude. Our parties, we all get up and switch instruments. Anything can happen
Well if you go to hand out with chilling friends that smoke weed they'll beg you to play man 👊
Is it possible to play wonderwall on bass
thats 4 words
I was actually booed in a party for playing bass as the "guitar wasn't loud enough" lol.
A girl approached me once thinking that I was the guitar player for the cover song of war pigs (Black Sabbath). Once she learnt that I was a bass player, she pretty much said that I was just moving around my fingers fast for nothing. To be fair, she was pretty drunk.
Even after all this, I remain a proud bassist. I learnt the bass first then the guitar. And I always chose to play the bass.

Oof
I get that quite a lot. I've started doing some small gigs here and there and after playing funk in polyrhythms and jazz, ppl ask if I can "play anything cool". To which I start playing something from rhcp or 7 nation army when I can't be bothered...

Under Pressure by Queen should be on this list. It's probably the easiest bass riff ever!
D D D DDD A, D D D DDD A....
Maybe the intro but as it progresses it can get tricky for newer players actually
And another bites the dust
Oof never mind it’s in here
Do you mean Under Pressure by David Bowie and Queen
Hi Luke! I just picked up my first bass 4 days ago amd thanks to your videos i now can play 3 out of these five songs now thank you so much for these videos! Ive beem practicing for 4 hours each day and i saw immediate results! Thank you so much, you ROCK Luke!!
Great stuff! Just getting started on bass, after playing guitar for years. This is hugely helpful and helps me see both the similarities and differences between the instruments. Thanks for the video.
I was asked to put the guitar down and play bass if I wanted to stay in the band. I'm learning to really like it.
Wow. I’ve gotten my first bass after years of playing classics guitar and this is brilliant! Thank you so much! Flipping excellent..

It’s been 7 months you started yet
I had an absolutely fabulous time with this lesson. It was great fun. A good choice of basslines for a novice player to get stuck into...
My first riff on bass was the intro on peace sells, as a guitarist it was what made me also pick up bass (that and the lack of any decent bass players in my area)
You can try "Cake by the ocean" it's so easy but it impress people effectively
First, day with my bass, this made me feel so accomplished, i could play this no problem!! Thank you :D
I'm really a bass beginner. And these things sound soooo cool. And the best is I can play them. Thanks Luke 🙏🏻
>feel good inc
I don't even have a bass guitar, but I wanna learn how to play it huhu
Get a cheap one on Craig’s list, you’ll be in business in no time!
Yeah, I just bought a 4 string Glarry on ebay. Pretty cheap, but I hope it'll do the trick for a beginner like me.
It’s easy you should get one
I have 40+ years playin bass and I support this video. Great place for beginning bass players.
The bass lines in this video are now my warm up Everytime I play. Thanks so much!
I've just recently started to learn bass guitar, and the only instrument I've ever played was a recorder in 5th grade, but I was able to understand this, I'm so happy I found this video!
That was fun !
Good memories , man !
I just started teaching a friend to play bass, and these are perfect for him !
Thanks for this.
You are AMAZING!!! I am a TOTAL beginner on ANY musical instrument. I chose the bass guitar. You are THE best video "broadcast" I have found that has the music on the video as well.
THANK YOU! YOU ROCK!!!!
This is such a fantastic series. Incidentally my first bass line to learn was Queens 'Another one bites the dust'. Thanks!
This is fun, picking up the bass again, I'm hooked!
That's great Remco! Good to hear you're having a good time!
just started playing and your videos have been so helpful! thanks a bunch :)
Been watching the videos as I have started to teach myself bass guitar, its making sense, the tabs are how you are looking down on your guitar strings. EADG . I love how they make things simple and step by step.
Thanks for these videos. They're really helping me develop muscle memory and getting familiar with the arrangement of my instrument.
I just can't get my eyes off that bass it looks so cool😍🔥
"Play that funky music white boy". Yeah, that's #1.
Yeah , I like it too :)
I play guitar and friend of mine borrowed me bass because I wanted to try it so hard. Found this video and in an instant i started to rock Thank you Luke for the introduction!
I’m starting bass as of last week and this has been so helpful! Thank you so much! Just need to figure out easier ways of hand placement I think.
Great to have you in the bass world @Roscoe Martin - you got this!
Thank you Luke.
I've picked up the Bass again after 10 idle years. I'm in my 60z by the way, THANK YOU!
Still grooving?
I am 62 years young
learning my first instrument
Bass
Some great numbers
Thank you Josephine
This video has been helping me to get to know more about the guitar tricks
Luke, you explain and demonstrate very well. Thank you, this really helps. I usually find it hard to follow because almost everybody else shoots the pickup and not the fret.
I'm more or less just starting my musical adventure. About 1 month in, couple dozen hours with bass. Seems easier to me. Still learning the notes to the frets, but this numbering method is teaching me faster as a means to achieve results. Still getting my fingers and hands used to it, also. The guys I'm learning and practicing with are pretty impressed with my results so far. Timing with hand movement and placement is challenging. I'm definitely making positive progress and have a great bunch of people around to help.
Thanks for this video
Thank you so much bro, I just started playing the bass and this was a really good starting point
I finally got a good bass Fender Mustang and loving it. Learning how and what to play. I was with your emails before and saved them. I was playing acoustic and electric guitar with a private teacher and friend. He passed away and I am looking forward to working with you
Awesome video, love what you're doing! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Zhalaza. I will!
I taught myself " little green bag" when I was 11, my mum used to love it.
Nice one 👍
Just picked up a bass for the first time and this is just an amazing video. Thank you
I´ve learned to listen to and how to understand and have become to love the bass. Now playing in a quartet and still learning. Thanks :)
Lou Reeds "Take a walk on the wild side" has a cool base on it.
Great video and super fun! Been in a band for years...never tried bass as i sing lead....i think i'm hooked...i LOVE the bass!! Thank you!!
You're welcome Linda - so glad you like it!
Thanks for this video.
These are baselines i can work with for practice.
I’m a guitar player but I always like to expand myself so learning base doesn’t sound too bad. It’s looks fun actually.
I started playing bass about 3 weeks ago so I'm super new, I love playing stand by me so much, it's so fun I'm addicted, and I can actually play it unlike other songs haha!
hey Luke, I recently started playing bass and I have to admit that this video helped me A LOT,
Anyway, Keep up the good work!
How you been doin on bass two years in?
I just got my bass and now I can play the first two! Very helpful!
Thank you for being so clear!
2:23 I'd never play that on those strings. I play it on the A string only.
Yeah, it sounds closer to the original this way(On the A string). Sometimes I use the D string as well when I the melody is about to change at the end.
saemikneu I play it on the E but i just love making it deep
I play it on E with more tone as distortion as non guitar players THINK it is distortion :p..
Gavaskar B. Exactly!
Gavaskar B. You must be playing it in the wrong key or playing it starting on the 12 fret which just doesn't that that great
This is a tutorial of how to extend a video that can be 3m long to 13m.
Happy you learned something Vic!
Yes indeed.
But then people would complain hes going to fast owo
Vic And if It was then it wouldn’t be a tutorial now would it
I'm actually glad that he did that hes taking his time to show us and not rushing through it
I'm at the stage in life where I really appreciate skill. Whether music, sport, medicine, building or whatever. Find something to do and be good at it. It's a wonderful thing. Learn one thing well. Don't dabble. Oh and I'm learning to play bass. Great job Luke.
This is by far the best beginner video I've seen and has got me started well
Im a beginner and i mostly know the songs listed here
All i can say that they are very easy that everyone sings to. They thought i was a very good player
Haven’t even bought my bass yet but I’m looking forward to it
Thanks Mac . For your teachings. I appreciate it.
Thanks! I Appreciate Your Tutorial.
i love your work, ur amazing
Haha! Thanks Michael. I hope the videos help.
Great video! I'm starting to play the Base and those bass lines will really come in handy. Thank you Luke!
That's great Chuck! Let me know how you go with them.
Become A Bassist today I can say that I can play them all but I always do this minor mistake in the Another One Bites the Dust that I hit too many 0's. There's a little gap there and instead making this gap I'm playing an open string over and over again.
All your bass are belong to us!
Mentioning the variants is a helpful hint. Good. Thanks.
I'm glad I receive emails with tips. And yes, the best tips I also pass on to other people. Luke You're the best. It amazes me that I'm still learning things I thought I knew, but a person alive he's never too old to learn.
I like how when this video shows up in an end of video suggestion, it says 'beginner ass lines'.
for whom the bell tolls intro!!! thats a great bassline
Wouldn’t say it’s for beginners though
havent played bass for nearly 10 years now, muscle memory has gone for a lot of the tabs i could play so im glad i found this video
First week I have a bass and this is just what I needed. Fantastic video!
By the way, Jumpsuit by twenty one pilots is great for this.
ScuseMeCouldYouPleaseLeave 击 It’s pretty easy, it’s on one string and you can play it with one finger
I love listening to the bass line in all songs
When learning a new song I prefer to avoid using open strings where possible as it makes it easier to transpose later on the fly
Very cool Luke, thanks !!
I just placed an order for a Player Jaguar bass a few days ago. I think this is the video I'll use to get going. I hope that learning bass will help preserve my sanity this winter.
Awesome bass to start on. Good choice

Me: *watches bass tutorials even though I play guitar and don't even own a bass*
Me before too but now I have a bass.
Now I have low notes too. For very high notes I use violin.
So range is like full piano.
These are in my homestudio keyboard is also useful for my demos.

Great tutorial. To add to the immersion, I'd suggest adding a "sing-a-long" style highlight to each note as it's played?
