Almost have a z4 for almost a year now. I'm 23 years old and it's my first car and i've been the happiest person ever since. Love everything about it. Decent power great sporty feel and a blast during the summer. I also love that the side of the car has a Z4 worked into the body. If you look around the turn signals you can see that it's a Z
M54B30 POWER, joined with manual 6 speed transmission it'll last a lifetime when properly maintained. I know what I'm talking about because I've got one myself😃
I took delivery of my C8 Corvette HTC 14 months ago and I was certain I would sell off my 2006 3.0Si ( identical to yours) but watching a friend drive away on a test drive I could not bring myself to sell such a beautiful car.
Lovely car, especially in black. About the "sport" button: It does not affect the suspension, which is non-variable. It only changes the throttle response and the amount of steering assistance.
LOVE my 2007 Si !!! Just the driver and the car.. no frills, no screens.. Wind in your hair - good engine sound and I really love the lines and curves. Mine is in showroom condition just passed 14k miles. ;) Never giving this one up. Red / Black leather Great comments Bill - love it .
I get that looks are subjective but to those who dislike this body style have aweful taste, it is stunning to this day, for coming out in 2003 and being 18 years old they still look modern and elegant, and exude class...I am a fan of all bangle designs though especially the E60 5 series, and even the E65 7 series, pre facelift. Those who say they don’t like the Z4 probably say that about the 2004 six series as well which is in my opinion one of the most beautiful cars of all time
The z4 is just quirky looking enough to give the car a distinguished character. So I do agree, the z4 has definitely potential to become a future classic.
Love my 06 Z4. Perfect combination of the mentioned long hood, best inline six ever made, your butt above the rear driven axle feeling the car sticking to the road. Very reliable, spacious trunk for a roadster, 30 miles to the gallon and the top up or down in 9 seconds makes it an unmatchable daily driver sports car.
Best inline 6?!? Ever heard of the Ford 200 straight six from the 60s? Maybe bmw has the best new one. But Ford's straight six from the 50s and 60s is amazing
As far as longevity and ultimate reliability, yes the Ford would definitely probably be at the top. Those old things are almost indestructible. But beyond that, not many companies make a better inline 6 cylinder than BMW this is probably one of their best, if not 'the'
The side signal highlights the “Z” pattern on each side of the car. There is a VERY prominent “Z” flame surfaced on each side of the car, starting on the side of the hood going to the door seam and across the bottom (the black paint really shows it well). The side marker is in the middle of the Z (follow the slant /). Once you see the “Z” you can’t unsee it! Nice review as always.
Billy Bob, we got blessed this year by not getting hit by any storms. I am about a hundred miles directly east of you. It is hot and humid like summertime!
I'm a mechanic myself, but not in America. By watching your videos, l learnt a lot about "currently under-appriciated" cars that will become valuable and classic in future. Thanks. Pls show us more content like this. 👍
Hey Bill, I’m Surprised that you think the turn signal BMW cap Is strange it’s one of the cooler aspects of the Z4 and looks really good out on the road, and obviously super useful to...👌
Hi Bill, I had a 2003 Z4 3.0 Sport Premium. I bought it over in Naples (Golden Gate) in 2006 with 27k miles. The seller was a former Florida state senator. It stickered for $49,000. He liked me and let me have it for $25,000. Other than my 1976 Coupe DeVille, this was the best car I ever owned. The 2003 had the M54 which was also a great engine. I also had a 2000 528i Touring Car which had the M52TUB which was also a good engine (iron block). I also had a 2006 E90 325i with the N52 which I will admit is also a good engine. All that said, I will never own another BMW. I can't even begin to tell you how much I spent on these cars. Somewhere I have an Excel file with cost per mile to maintain these things. It was disgusting. I may have deleted it out of frustration. The car here is extended leather which was a pricey option. The Sport button really changed the character of the car. I always wanted to reverse the way it works. By default the car starts with Sport "off". The first thing that I always did was turn it on. There were some hacks back in the day to reverse it. I also turned off DTC. Sport on/DTC off was actually a window sticker that people were selling back then. I always thought of it as a German Cobra honestly.
O7 Z4 with blue metallic 34k miles. Love it. It always stays in garage . So much fun to drive . Still gives me same pleasure when I drove it first time
The extended leather in the Z4 is wonderful! I had driven a Z4M at work and it was a wonderful machine. Silky smooth gearbox and the fantastic S54 motor made it a great driving experience and the really long hood gives it a special feeling from the drivers seat.
Greetings Bill, from over in the UK. It's great to hear you pronounce things correctly (the "Zed"), i.e. the English way! Just teasing. As always, your videos are both informing and highly entertaining with your superb commentary and dry sense of humour, absolutely love it. I particularly enjoyed this one (I am a BMW chap, for my sins!) as it is effectively (colour, presuming the car in this is Sapphire Black) the convertible version of my late 2006 Z4 Coupe (E86), including the red leather (although I have the brushed Aluminium inserts rather than wood and also the M-Sport steering wheel). I don't think you have done a review on the Z4 Coupe which is not surprising as they are somewhat rare compared to the Convertible (I believe for every 10 soft tops made, just 1 Coupe was made, only manufactured over 2 years and as you will know, only had the 3.0 Litre put in it, apart from the Z4M Coupe which had the M3 engine plonked in). I treated myself to one last Autumn to have as a "weekend" car so to speak. I certainly plan on keeping it for many a year. Anyway, have a great weekend Bill and look forward to your next video.
i came so close to buying a coupe before getting my 3.0 roadster, the coupe looks stunning, but i could not lose the top down driving in the summer lol.
I drove a new 1996 328i, and it was a fine car albeit required 3 new radiators within the first six months because of a newly introduced engine, the real trouble was the attitude exhibited by other drivers towards BMW owners, if only I'd known of your whiskey therapy at the time! A sweet looking ride Bill.
As a Canadian Bill, I can promise you that nobody here says Zed Zed Top... Canadians probably buy more of this car because when we get to spend the winter in Florida, we want to feel like its summer every day. A car like this is not ideal in Canada because you need to have a winter car too. Anyhow Bill, big fan here, keep the good stuff coming
Awesome vid as usual bill! Hello from pittsburgh! Give us a tour of Auto Haus! I stupidly sold my 06 3.0si last september 16k miles on it but an automatic! I assume the German engineers epexted the muricans to need some help with driving a stick shift. By the way - that annoying device can be removed easy as pie.
Clutch delay was standard in all Aussie delivered Z4's as well as US. Judging by all the posts on UK based websites, showing how to remove it, I think it was standard in all UK models as well.
its also an awesome autocross car, I don't get why people don't track/autocross this, I see so many more 350z, boxsters and s2000s. With the right tires/suspension setup, this can be very competitive in that class
I like the Z4. I think it's the best of the Bangle-era designs, and I bought two. I had a 2003 Z4 and bought a 2006 Z4MC new off the lot (only the 2nd time I've bought new). But nope, the roadster will never be a collectible, except *maybe* the M Roadster. It will always be cool, though.
You’re probably right, as they actually made quite a lot of standard z4’s. But if you’ve got a clean one with low miles it’s still worth a decent amount of money. I doubt they’ll go much lower
I love the looks of Z4 with its long nose reminds me of the JAQ. E Type from the old day. I got a 2005 2.5 manual transmission it's a joy to drive. The design doesn't seem to go outdated.
Enjoyed your review, I'm fortunate to own a mint 05 2.2i since 2007 with low miles. My petrol head pals kinda think its amusing when I tell em it's gonna be a future classic. On top of that I seem to get more glare from oncoming traffic and other lighting which compounds the difficulty. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it could be a result of all the electronics in the windscreen for the rain sensors. Even so, love the car.
Tomorrow should be cool it’s going to be 75 for a high here in Titusville on Friday. Another nice car review with wonderful commentary as I always learn a lot from you.
I’ve seen reviews where they stated the lines on the side with the rondel is actually a subtle nod to Z4. When you really look at the lines they are supposedly both a Z & a 4. The Z is easy to see.
exactly, the same reason why petrol fumes are what catches flame... if you open a can of gasoline and dunk a cigar in it, it will not catch fire, but if you give the cigar even a bit of time to heat up the gas and rise fumes, you will get a nice explosion, or not nice, as it will burn ya... But yeah, fumes give enormous surface area compared to their mass, just like shavings do in a smaller degree, and just like a puddle of cold petrol that doesnt fume does not catch fire that easily, in the same manner does an magnesium alloy resist immolation while working... great point... also worth noting is that alloying of magnesium does influence its flash point...
The BMW Z4 Roadster of this vintage was really a sharp looking car. My EX gave me a 1:18 diecast model of this car for Christmas the year this car was introduced. I have a 2006 SI in Monaco blue and beige leather. 55k km. Garage kept from November to April mainly due to road salt (west coast British Columbia). Occasionally when weather is more mild I will take out in winter. Agree with the run flats. Good idea but not well executed. Great review of the car. We actually do say “Zee Zee Top” though. 😁🇨🇦
ANDERS WARMING IS DANISH🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰 The E85 Z4 is the most beautiful car of the flaming surface era along with the Z8, who another dane, Henrik Fisker, designed🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
I've got one, great fun car. Roof is superb. That clutch delay valve is easy to delete and I did. Si N52 cars aren't as easy to work on or as reliable as the older M54, I'd avoid them.
I'm conversational in German and zukunft literally translates into "to come" (zu=to, kunft=the conjugated version of come). Makes more sense than future.
Bonnie car. Drove a couple of these a few years back. Nice for a weekend toy, but not very pleasant for longer drives IMHO. Hence why I went with an SLK, a better every day car.
'Activating sport mode makes the BMW Z4 Roadster feel even more dynamic. Just press the "Sport" button and the vehicle's electronic control units switch to sportier settings for the engine, steering and, on automatic models, the transmission. The engine responds more keenly, the steering's power assistance is reduced at low and medium revs for a more direct feel and the transmission adopts sportier shift characteristics.'
I have this year and model as shown here. One noticeable difference is mine is automatic and has pop-up GPS, etc. All of the pop-up features are very much outdated in 2020. There is a GPS cd component between the seats in rear console. I can't find the Bluetooth feature.

I know what I'm talking about because I've got one myself😃
298,000 miles?!? Holy moly you made me feel good about my 167,000 mile Bimmer. 😮
I have a 2005 Z4 with 236000 miles

Agree - a really pretty car.
Thanks for the great review Bill! I own a 2.2 e85 z4 and I simply love it. All the best from Italy.

My 2006 Z4 3.0si with 39K miles is a keeper. Never getting rid of it. The N52B30 engine is bulletproof especially with the 6 speed transmission.

The sport button does not change the suspension. It just increases the throttle response and steering weight. Also, the rotors are not drilled.
Great car , shame about the wood trim though, I feel the aluminium trim would suit this paint and leather combination so much better .

Magnesium shavings indeed burn very hot. But an engine block has a minuscule ratio of surface area/mass, which mostly determines ignitability.

ANDERS WARMING IS DANISH🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
The E85 Z4 is the most beautiful car of the flaming surface era along with the Z8, who another dane, Henrik Fisker, designed🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
The sport button does NOT change the suspension.
Had run flats in 2018 Camaro RS, hated the ride. Traded it in for 2019 Impala with same engine with 18 inch wheels with regular tires. It's a keeper
I'm a big fan of the car per se but I hate the combination of aluminium and wood trim. Also I believe that the E85 doesn't come with adaptive dampers.
It would be great if you can upload 2-3 reviews every week.
I've got one, great fun car. Roof is superb. That clutch delay valve is easy to delete and I did. Si N52 cars aren't as easy to work on or as reliable as the older M54, I'd avoid them.
I cannot unsee the ATL Falcons in the taillights now.
Very nice and proper !
Welcome back Bill
Thanks, Ron. Nice to be here.
The wood looks out of place somehow - it's not a 1960s MG - I think you could get the silver metal effect dash which would look better
Beautiful example
❤️ the red interior but not partial to blk and dark exteriors...I dream of this in white , red or silver😻🤩😸
Nice, those 6spd are rare
Sport button remaps throttle, does not affect suspension.
I’ve watched just about all of Bill’s videos and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him actually be talking about the car 1:30 into the video
Damgaard is Danish not dutch, as is Anders Fisker who designed the Z8😉
It's not that fast, but it always feels like it has more to give even as you approach 80 and 90 miles an hour.
It has... they top out at 155.... try pushing the pedal a bit harder........🙄
Be sure to watch the new series this winter: The Bangle Bunch.
I have this year and model as shown here. One noticeable difference is mine is automatic and has pop-up GPS, etc. All of the pop-up features are very much outdated in 2020. There is a GPS cd component between the seats in rear console. I can't find the Bluetooth feature.
Um, parking brake not pulled up on a manual car. How did that BMW not roll away from you?
"We're not using the Zed word!!"
The e89 is my favorite generation. The e85 just looked too dopey and sleepy-eyed from the front to me so i got a 35is.
This guy is so crabby. I love it!
2 weeks ago? Where is Bill???
it might be a mojo thing
