Hello I wanted to ask if you could make a video for 7vsWild (season 3) challenge from Germany as these are very popular here. we would be happy to hear your ideas.
I like it, however I prefer the method that I’m using with 3 Prusiks, 2 wooden toggles on two of the prusiks, 1 toggle attached to the ridge line to use with the bowline, and the last toggle to use with the third prusik to tighten the line, it is made and ready to deploy, this new method of yours looks great and I may try it…. Ty for sharing
I watched it once then I had to watch it again I couldn’t believe what I was saying just to make sure I don’t watch it the third time cause that’s really cool way to go Mr. James
I watched the video that Blackie Thomas made about this method as well as your video. I tried it out and I really like how easy, simple and quick to deploy it is. I made up the cleat as you described as well as a toggle for the other end. I now carry this as my go-to ridge line kit. Thanks for sharing!
Between you, Blackie, Dave Canterbury (with some tricks from Felix Immler's friend) and Frank Bush (just popped into my feed for the first time), there is a lot of innovation going on. I have to admit this one is the simplest yet since it as the least amount of knots and all beginner knots at that. BTW, I believe this is a double overhand loop, a figure 8 is a bit different but they probably both have very similar properties when it comes to durability of your line...
Being former U.S. Navy, I appreciate this trick! For the longest time i just tied 4 bowlines in my ridgeline. two facing inwards for my hammock, and two outwards to act as a permanent trucker's hitch. Once I got my distances right, I stopped having to think about it as I set up camp. There is an ancient part of me that really likes the cleat idea though... So many ways that can be used! 1) To attach a whiteboard for instruction. 2) To begin a horizontal spider's web (using a few of the cleats) for a fun platmorn/trampoline thingy. 3) To offset the attachment point for a four tree hammock setup. Much appreciate your videos!
Excellent device with minimal work. Great for locking down a sort of trucker's hitch or for hanging equipment. It is stable and solid. I worked up a slightly different way to tie it that is more like a lark's head on the bight. That should be easier for me to remember. I saw this on Blackie's site first and his presentation is also excellent. I'll be using it on my next camping trip.
I love all the new tricks with toggles that have been evolving lately. Thanks for the videos! You mention the “boat cleat”. You could secure the line similar to securing a boat rope; figure 8 the line around the clear.
I like this method. Here in Australia, with softer bark on some of our trees I add a strip of Webbing with paired holes to feed Ridgeline through. Stops ring barking of the tree. Adds only a little weight & bulk. I use Tree Straps with my hammocks suspension. Thank you for sharing.
Not to mention, other then the figure 8 knot, there is not stress on the cord from so many securing knots. This is going to make your cordage last a lot longer if using over and over again.
What a great idea James there's not No knots to knot. I know the English is not right but it all kind of rhymed. That's an excellent idea and I'll Swanee you come up with some great ones. Thanks James I really did like this and I know I'll be using it. May God bless
If in doubt, try it out. We plan to do a timed side-by-side comparison of our current preferred method and this idea. One will prevail. Thank you James for presenting the idea.
I do something similar, but I use a toggle with two hole drilled in it and tighten my ridge line . It stays on the ridge line and don’t have a toggle with a prussic cutting into para cord.
i just watched a 2 year old video on how to do this with a stick with 2 holes drilled into it and was going to try it and then I saw this trick! I am always learning from your videos.
While at an A.M.M. Eastern Rendezvous I discovered a similar system I still use for rigging up my diamond fly. I use a simple overhand knot and loop on 1 end of my ridge line and wrap my hemp rope several times around the other tree and a loose stick. I then circle the stick several times like a boat cleat and secure as needed. .... Jeff in Lebanon OH.
Nice idea, but: it is easier to use a toggle with one hole in the middle on the first anker point. Then you do not have to put the whole line through the loop. At the second Anker point you should use a toggle with two holes (instead of the two 7 notches). This works in the same way to tighten the ridge line. The toggles can stay on the ridge line and you can slide them where yon need them to be.
damn thats clever! tbh i used to do something similar when i was young (40+ years ago! 😳), now bare in mind i knew no nots (stiill dont... yet!) but i did very similar! im glad i kind of already did something like this back then but now i can do a better more pro version thats a lot better and well thought out! 😊 thanks for this, definitely a great way to do it! might be useful for bugging out over here uk side, mind you, not a great deal of forests round here but i can see urban uses of it (im imaginative!)) these vids are bril! glad your making them! could you do a vid or even a mini series on knots? (how to's and uses for example)
Like you said a boat cleat or locking pully. I love your bite size hacks and tips. From your Stanley cook hacks to packing tips to simple EDC pack. I use something from you. Thanks much.
On the first tree, use a toggle with either a bowline or a figure 8 and you could save a bit of time. Love this and will give it a try! My brother and family are off to England to hike a long footpath through Wales. My niece just graduated from high school and I got her a 3mx3m tarp to take on the trip. I will teach this to them before they go t get rained on in Wales. Thanks!
I just found a great channel on projects you can do with nothing else but your Swiss Army Knife and mod’s you can do to the knife itself to increase its effectiveness. Felix Himmler is of Swiss himself. Like spiral cut potatoes? Make your own with nothing but a tin can some some wood and your Swiss Army knife.
Same principal that I do with Titanium Loop Aliens on the ridge line. Only exception is that a loop is not needed to secure the line. One loop Alien secures the line around the support item and another Loop Alien at the other end to adjust/tighten/secure the line around the support item. For the whole process not even a single knot is needed , knot free set up. Going to keep this Ridge Line Trick in mind in case I ever lose an Loop Alien.
Clearly you saw all the others guys making please Ridgeline videos after Dave Canterbury drills holes in the wood. I like the way he does it if you don't mind carrying sticks. As part of a permanent kit. But I like your way as a minimalist if you just want to carry a Ridgeline in your pocket without all the sticks. Because let's face it takes you everywhere out in the woods. You have a great idea. I'll be waiting for Blackie's video to drop
Yes finally, I've been waiting for this . Had seen another channel do similar with a toggle and he reamed 2 holes through it and ran the line through that , but the two 7 notches is even better. I think you've nailed it right here thanks 👍
I enjoy seeing new ways to do the ridgeline. I still think a truckers hitch is faster and easier. I already have the cordage wrapped around the tree, no need to find and create the carved wooden piece. Does look interesting, just not a new way for me. Keep up the good work on the videos. Enjoy the channel.

I never want to be without one of these sticks
🤠
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked it!

Thanks for watching!
I'd bet that instead of wrapping 3 times around the "cleat", you could actually belay it like a boat cleat. Food for thought...
Very possibly!
Blackie Thomas sent me!
Excellent, thanks for watching!
Mr Bender, I have watched you and Mr Thomas for quite a while.I have while away many hours and truly enjoyed passing the time withyou! Thanks!!!
Excellent! Thanks so much for watching!
Both you and Blackie are a great wealth of bushcraft knowledge...!! 🙂🇺🇸
Thank you!
Good evening from Syracuse NY brother and everyone else
Evenin' Earl 🖐️
Hello, Earl!
Earl, greetings Neighbor! I am about 20 min south of Utica! Inlaws are in Syracuse
Hi all my friends
Hello CNY neighbors. I’m in Ilion
Nice simple ridgeline, thanks for the idea.
Thanks for watching!
I watched it once then I had to watch it again I couldn’t believe what I was saying just to make sure I don’t watch it the third time cause that’s really cool way to go Mr. James
Thanks so much!
A great idea for those that are knot confused, easy. Thx for the vid james
Thanks for watching it!
Awesome again. Thanks for sharing all of your experiences with us.
Thanks so much for watching!
Nice job, you basic used a ship tie down to tighten the ridge line. Plus that knot you used is what electrician use to pull wires. It’s genius.
Thanks!
Super easy and i will save the video and try it out. Excellent Sir.
Thanks!

Thanks Again James 👍👍👍👍👍
You're welcome, my friend!
I absolutely love this channel
Thanks!
This technique is brilliant in its simplicity. Great explanation with camera on subject to make everything easy.
Glad you liked it!
Fantastic idea
Thanks!
Everything else about the set up was awesome and simple. Love it.
Thanks!
Neat hack bud! Simple and clever! Definitely gonna stash that away in my tac tool box
Thanks, glad you liked it!

@@WayPointSurvival oh, It's genius, for sure.
Cheers James👍😎👍
Thanks!
well done sir i will post my video this coming fri
Excellent, my friend! Thanks so much for your help!
That is brilliant!
Thanks!

James that is brilliant. All I’ve ever seen are complicated knots that I can’t remember to save my but, thanks for sharing this.god bless ya.😊☮️
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Great video. I liked how you rotated the rope instead of tying it off
Thanks!
I love all the new tricks with toggles that have been evolving lately. Thanks for the videos!

Yes, you could certainly do that!

Excellent. That's always a good idea especially if you're going to be camped for any length of time.
Thank you for this idea...love it 🥰
Thanks so much!
Very cool.
Thanks!
Great idea and thanks for the orange cord. I can actually see what was going on LOL.
You're welcome!
Guessin' this will be a Coalcracker video pretty soon.
Lol
That’s cool!
Thanks!
Love it, super simple wood cleat! Thank You James!
Glad you like it!
Not to mention, other then the figure 8 knot, there is not stress on the cord from so many securing knots. This is going to make your cordage last a lot longer if using over and over again.
That wasn't a figure 8 knot!!!
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
Very cool and simple . May could toggle the looped end rather than feeding the entire line through. Thanks for sharing this. Have a great evening
Yes, you could definitely do that. Thanks for watching!
What a great idea James there's not No knots to knot. I know the English is not right but it all kind of rhymed. That's an excellent idea and I'll Swanee you come up with some great ones. Thanks James I really did like this and I know I'll be using it. May God bless

great tip indeed.
Thanks!

Yes, but the whole idea was to not have to drill holes in anything. This way I can use a stick that I just find in the woods.
@@WayPointSurvival used my SAK awl to drill the holes. Not anymore work or time then two seven notches.
Great simplified method James! Thanks for all you do...as always take care...Robin
Thanks so much!
I enjoy knot work, but nice trick, well done 👍🏻
Thanks!
Great Trick! I love the collaboration between Blackie, Yourself and Dave Canterbury on these improved ridge line hacks!
Thanks for watching!
That is pretty slick.
I'm gonna try this out for sure next weekend!
Thanks Alot, 👍

Would have liked to hear that conversation with you and blackie. I a lot of times go to sleep listening to blackie talk about things. So relaxing
It was very interesting! He's a wonderful guy and so very knowledgeable!
Wow that's a great idea . Thank you for sharing stay safe and God Bless much love and respect always
I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for watching and God bless you too!
Thanks James I think I used one of those before. The knowledge is nice to have. God. Bless you.

I have been using a cleat with 2 holes but,
this is better thanks mister.

Fantastic! I love this technique! Thank you.
You are so welcome!
That looks like something almost anyone could do. I would have to watch again and practice though, to make sure I could do it
Yes, it's quite easy.
Nice. I would use the stick to wrap the ridgeline to keep them together. Great idea.
Sure, you could definitely do that.
Thanks James

I have now learned something new, this is exciting, I am going to try this out ( I love this channel )
Thanks so much!
Definitely easier then a truckers hitch. Well.....maybe lol. Its a very cool way of doing a ridge line. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I like that. I’ll give it a try this weekend. 👍🏽

Awesome idea
Thanks!
Very cool, well presented and easy to remember. Will give this a try. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching it!
Wow! I can make one of those sticks and throw it in my shelter\fire kit. Already carry 50’ of 550. Great video!
Right on!
Very easy to do. Great idea
Thank you!
Probably the most useful tip in a while! 👍👍👍 My 8yr old love trying but the knots are definitely a hard tool for him. We'll try this one for sure.
Excellent, thanks for watching!
Hey James, good stuff! Thanks for posting! Regards and best, Pink.
You're most welcome!
Simple and easy is my speed 😄hahaha
Thanks man 👍
You're welcome!
Absolutely love this simple design! Thanks. I am so bad with the knots.
You are so welcome!
Great idea

Good one Blacky and Jimmy!

Thanks so much!
Impressive. Could even feed some cord under the line above the stick and tie it off to have a way to hang a light without it sliding everywhere.
Indeed!
Good idea 💡. Keep up the good work and God bless
Thanks and God bless you too!
James, every time I think you've exhausted your repertoire on a particular facet of bush craft, you come up with yet another innovation to bring Dave Canterbury to tears! Do you come up with these ideas after eating hallucinogenic mushrooms? Do you vape a secret blend of CBD oil? Whatever you're smokin', I'll pay double for it! Anheuser Busch should have hired you to salvage the brand. You could have come up with a creative marketing plan that wouldn't have pissed off 85% of their customers. And I can only imagine the new beer can design that you would have invented.
Lol. Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
