I have a 3.5M high one of these plants in my back yard. The trunk is like 25cm diameter at its thickest. Took about 100 cuttings yesterday. Could literally take a couple thousand cuttings without doing much noticeable damage! It's massive
finally i found a video that shows one looking like mine (first one) i was getting worried because its not branched out. but i see signs of the stem toughening up now so i cant wait for it to grow even more. yay thank you, (I am a weirdo and named it Edward haha)
I thought it was the same plant! When I saw them all together at the end it was like 'what kind of time bending ability is this??". Great vid, I'm gonna start pruning mines now.
Haha! Like I stated in the description it’s not the same tree but merely a representation of how the tree evolves with constant trimming. It’s how I trained the final tree.
You can make instant bonsai or quick bonsai within 6 months if you get the real stuff from nature. Look out for plants growing on the walls of old buildings, rocks or near drains and just groom it well.🙏
@@karabonsai I can see such trees while on the way to my office. Some are big with nice pattern of roots spread across the walls. These are natural bonsai which just need little grooming to shine out.
Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting… trust the process people! We are doing good things together when we grow trees
Thank you! After watching this video I just cut down to the first set of leaves and will now trust the process. I have a couple of questions. Can I simply plant the trimmings and if so, what is the best type of soil to use? If I plant a 3 inch high piece when do I begin trimming it? I guess I had 3 questions :)
Reply to your first question - yes, simply plant the cutting in soil. 2nd question- soil would vary according to the type of plant but mostly it should be well draining and well sterile and you should add fertilizer (after a span of 2- 3 weeks) 3rd question- when the roots are well developed and the plant is healthy (mostly after 2 months) start pruning and always prune the tips. Don't overprune.
You put out the best port content I have found on UA-cam. WE NEED MORE! I suggest that you make a series of an ongoing project. Have 6 cuttings and you make 2 videos per month in which you show us how to develope them. That would give you plenty of content.
How did you get the bend in that plant?? Did that happen naturally? Is that really all of the trimming that you did? I am just a beginner and really appreciate your knowledge.
I’m in Florida and started a cutting just like yours and my thickness is already at your year 4 in 6-8 months. Where do you live that your jades don’t thicken you like crazy? I feed them heavy and I’m in florida
They will develop much quicker in larger containers. The ones I keep in smaller containers (with less soil) like this don't grow as quick. I'm in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Amazing - thanks for sharing! If kept indoors, how often should they be watered? I have one that is sitting in a south facing window so it gets plenty of sun. It’s pretty new and I repotted it but started to see some leaves shriveled pretty badly and losing leaves - not too sure what to do! I haven’t fertilized it yet since I got it two weeks ago.
Hope he's still alive, it's been a long time since you posted this. But for future reference, these guys are pretty good at saying when they need water. The soil should be already completely or almost completely dry, and the leaves will start to be less turgid. You may notice a few of the lower leaves becoming wrinkled. That's when you want to water thoroughly, until the water runs out of the drainage holes! Ideally you'd water just before the wrinkling begins (depending on who you ask) but they are generally hardy plants and don't mind being a little thirsty.
This video is only to show what a tree would look like if you trained it over the years. I suggest watching my other videos to see how I trim and train my trees.

your bonsai really look amazing...great job...I live in a cold climate environment...would this also work with well drained succulent potting mix? or do you really need a bonsai mix?
First look at the health of the plant before cutting. If it has well developed root system, cut it at the height of one hand span approx and let it grow for next year. Let the tap root go down the soil as much as it can go. You don't need it afterwards while planting in the pot. After the lower branches grow well, you can saw off and give good finish to the upper stump. Few year later, you won't recognise that the branch was actually cut off. The would heals and covers up by barks.
I need help. I moved into a new place. Where this jade plant had really overgrown. I want to propergate it, but to do that I'm going to have to cut off thick trunks which I feel is a waste. I need help on how to safely cut them off but use it as a cutting. Can it even be done with thick trunks? Is air layering an option?
Do you use wires ? Or only pruning and trimming ? I get it's not the same tree in the video that went from 1 to 6 years... but the last trees has some movement while the first ones were completely straight.
No, In the video description I explain that it’s not the same tree. It basically shows what the tree looks like after each year since I’ve been doing this year after year.
Look in the succulent section of garden centers! I just picked up a few variegated species that were about 5 inches in length with well established roots for $5 (usd) a piece from a greenhouse near me. It's funny, there were 4-6 y/o dwarf jade pre-bonsai right next to them selling for around $60 each! I also found a small clump of bright pink stemmed variegated in a 1" pot at Walmart last season for $1! Excited to see them grow this spring!
Thanks for the inspiring video! I have a question-- do you think it's better to keep them short or tall with lots of branches during the bonsai-fying process? I've heard that having lots of limbs helps them thicken their trunks, so I'm not sure whether or not I should start the pruning process early on or wait until the plant is larger.

I use Superfly push I think it’s 12-6-4 I also use their regular slow release granules. I also use fish emulsion once a week on all my trees.

Is wiring required
You can get away with clip and grow but wiring definitely helps.
So there’s no description for how you pruned throughout the years... trunk just gets thicker...

When do you first start cutting the main trunk? I don't want it to get to talk, but it grows up way faster than it grows wide.
First look at the health of the plant before cutting. If it has well developed root system, cut it at the height of one hand span approx and let it grow for next year. Let the tap root go down the soil as much as it can go. You don't need it afterwards while planting in the pot. How do you get them to have off shoots on the trunk?
By heavy fertilizer.
@@LittleJadeBonsai ah ok I thought you maybe had to pull the leaves off the trunk, will get on fertilizing. Thank you!

Turface and sifted pine bark. Check out my other video on soil.
nowd you get your trunk so thick ?
So good! What size pot do you use for this whole process?
Thanks for another great vid 👍
Best thing is to grow the plant in garden. When you feel that the trunk has developed well, you can resize the branches and roots to fit your pot.
Do you fertilize them during the first year?
Love your UA-cam and insta btw :)
Wow! Will it take me that long time to get a bonsai like this? It'll be hard to wait! But it is worth waiting, I think. The result is rewarding.
Awesome
Is this spekboom?

looks like once a cutting is planted it doesn't grow any taller. is that right?
Do you use wires ? Or only pruning and trimming ?
