  • Making Loop Knots is not easy for everyone, and making the loop small and controlling its size is definitely not easy. This video will walk you though the easiest way to make a small loop knot for any fly or lure. We use a large hook and fly line in the second half of the video, which will hopefully help people easily follow the steps.

See my just published video on how to tie five different non slip loop knots. Jack's Knots

Has the knot strength been tested? If so could you post the data? Thanks.

This is not my video, but I posted this same knot some time ago. I took it offf because I felt my "Jack's Knot with a stop " was better.(See my videos on UA-cam)
The knot shone is a good strong knot ,but a little weaker than the traditional non slip loop knot. It does a little better in fluorocarbon than nylon, but it tends to ribbon the line a littlle bit in fluro.
Jack's Knot with a stop is as strong as the traditional knot, but easier to tie, and can be made very small. I used 8lb Trilene Big Game and 8lb Pline fluorocarbon for my tests.

The Perfection loop knot is far easier for me.

This knot makes a small loop but tag end comes out at a 90 degree angle and can snag debris.

From my view, the loop got larger as you pulled the standing end to finish it up.

why so complicated knots? I use perfection loop for every thing, except small flies. and it has 95% strength, I use it for salmon fishing on 0.33 fluorocarbon line and so far nothing broke my leader. even if you snag it will break other knots than perfection loop.

It's a cutting knot. It has a high knot strength in large diameter lines. However, the knot strength is not proportional with line diameter. There's a lot of better knot choices - ie. Lefty's Kreh loop knot - when it comes to tippet 0x or below.

Your loops are way too big - the lure won't behave properly.

That's a uni knot not a loop knot it can and will slide down tight to hook as a real loop knot will not

Nope. It is the same principle as a Uni. The difference is the first loop that you wrap through is in the standing part, ie fly line side. With a Uni it is in the tag end. Hence does not slip.

Interesting, I’ve always depended on the non-slip popularized by Lefty. With practice the desired small loop is not difficult to achieve, but I think this might well be easier for a beginner. Is there reliable break test % data available including the various line types in use ? Thanks.

In my UA-cam video (Understanding Jack's Knots A Paradigm Shift In tying fishing knots) I explain how making a loop with the main line will creat a non slip loop knot if you go thru the loop four times or more. (See Jack's Knot with a stop for a better knot. )

@@myrlstone8904 I switched to this knot about a year ago from the non-slip loop. The reason is that I could not master a small loop every time. Not sure about it being easier for a beginner, I had to put in a bit of practice. % break test - the knot has been in obscurity, this year is the first year I have seen it being published. Coincidently OPST published and now I see @Jack Miller has published. I have a lot of confidence in the uni-knot, so think this will hold up well. I've also failed to tighten the non-slip loop properly and so the non-slip loop has failed on me.

@@jackmiller1459 had a look - love the knot you tie. Especially for really thick lines used for shock tippets

Nice one! I almost exclusively use a Canoe Man Loop. Very quick, it’s strong and very little tippet used. 👍👍 🪢👌
