- Do credentials really matter?
Two days ago I cleared my desk of all clutter, unplugged my monitors, left my phone in another room and sat an exam in my office under full test conditions. An online proctor required me to show my surroundings with my webcam to ensure I wasn't able to cheat, and I was recorded the entire time as I sat the 'Graphic Design & Illustration using Adobe Illustrator' exam. I am 38 years old.
Like a lot of people in my industry, I didn't study to become a graphic designer. Yet here I am, nearly 15 years after pivoting into the industry, teaching people how to use programs like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and giving away my knowledge in the software to new (and sometimes seasoned) professionals.
In a world filled with 'experts' selling online courses and running paid bootcamps, it's important to check the credentials of who you're actually learning from. Reputation, trust and credibility is everything in the education space. And I realised that other than my experience in the industry (even though I've worked for some huge institutions) I didn't actually have any credentials!
So I am pleased to announce that I am (finally) an Adobe Certified Professional. Is it a trifling piece of paper? Maybe. But it does feel good to get a little validation every now and then.
And let me tell you, a few of the questions/tasks in that exam threw even me, so even I couldn't get a perfect score. Although 950/1000 isn't bad. 🥴👍

Congratulations.I just got certified in premiere pro and photoshop and now I’m working on after effects.
Hey there . I am also planning to take the Photoshop one, but I don't know where to start. I am currently enrolled in LinkedIn Learning course on the Photoshop, I have been using Ps mostly for tasks like Mockups and stuff, but I never got that deeper. Do you think the LinkedIn course will be enough to pass the exam?
Thanks in advance.
@@user-yw9ox9gr6y I haven't checked out the linked in course so I'm not sure about that. As long as you know the basic workings of the software you'll have a good chance to pass. Best of luck to you.
@@user-yw9ox9gr6y not really, you need more than just LinkedIn
Can you do a video expanding on this topic, like the website to register and preparations needed for this.
Congrats! 😊
Thank you! 👍🥴
How can you prepare for this exam? Been using Illustrator since 88, however I was self taught along with a few online courses.
Hi! How long does the certification last?
I can't attend the exam because of a Linux issue. Can you help me with how to reschedule the exam with Adobe?
More details plz
Does this actually make you look more qualified to customers? Are you able to charge more (assuming you were below avg rates previously)? Other than nice decor and feeling official, how does this help? I have been designing for a long time as well but I am just now taking it seriously. Is this necessary or just a nice addition to experience?
It isn't necessary, but it's just a credential that can help build trust between you and your clients.
Also in regards to your other question, yes you would be able to charge more, as the credential would show your clients that you're more qualified and experienced, making the value and pricing of your work higher.
hold up..is that how the answer should be? I answered that question by select the blue color as base color, go to window menu - color guide, choose monochromatic color and add color swatch group.
I would have answered like that too!
Where should i go to book my adobe exam?
I have this same question! Since the rebranding of the exams it has become very convoluted about were to book an exam.
