She was sacrificed to the new beauty craze - some directors no longer wanted to see obese singers on stage (Christoph Loy disposed of Deborah Voigt). Today we would be happy to hear such voices live... without a microphone
In her day Ms. Price wasn't even considered the best. Caballe, L Price, and - somewhat before her - Tebaldi were all exalted in this repertoire, and for good reason. Today, however, who could begin to even approach this performance? It's so sad watching something that was once so beautiful be ruined by ignorance and greed. And so it goes.
Glorious singing. I heard her in Norma (not a success) and Ballo which was in London in the 1980s. The thing about "larger" singers was creeping in even then as she was a rare visitor to Covent Garden even by then. Now all they care about it how the women look! It's truly pathetic and is killing opera.
I have a great respect for Mme M. Price but unfortunately, not a very interested rendition of this aria. She' s singing ( with magnificence ) but not really interpreting. She's respecting the score but nothing is really happening except sounds ( beautiful as usual with this Great Artist )
I would agree w you were it not for the fact that if you just listen, she portrays all the drama of the moment vocally. Watching can be deceptive & disappointing because all the technical issues come to the fore. Listen, don't look! It's all there.
iskenderuna . you are very funny yourself you just come and bust without thoroughly reading my post .Did i say its wrong to to have music in front of her for concerts please read before you start blasting ,i respect you so i prefer to not further replying to your ignorant response and lastly listen to her attentively then you will hear what i am talking about otherwise what you are trying to insinuate is wrong.and i didn't comment about her singing because i found no mistake i just pointed out the words issue i am in no position to criticize her singing what so ever
The "Invan la pace" could have been sung piano. A great siger. Versatile. Magnificent. Bravissima!
She knows the music. She's making perfect sense of the music. It's beautiful, exquisite.
Love her voice. Elegant and powerful...

There was a time they were all enormous. They should look the part a bit tho'... for credibility's sake, no?
Difficile à dire, mais c'est encore mieux que Caballé!!

this is very bad she doesn't know the words even when she is watching the copy very funny
What utter nonsense. Where did you get that information from? There is nothing bad about having music in front of you for concerts
