    It is shame Canyon still doesn't offer custom stem and crank length. They should let customer choose those option with ordering.

    • @bzzles
      @bzzles 2 місяці тому +11

      Regarding the stem you can now order it in any size 70-140mm for $200 on their website. Yeah it would be better to allow customers to select during purchase but imo this is a fair compromise. You can sell the parts you take off to another canyon owner looking for whatever size you have or in the case of the crankset anyone who owns a bike. It takes a little work but honestly not that bad to save $3-4k over a specialized or trek who will also gladly charge you $650 for their integrated bars to change stem sizes.

    • @GCPerformance18
      @GCPerformance18  2 місяці тому +3

      thats crazy, I mean its crazy the world we live, were custom stem lengths are a need, look at car dealerships or anything you buy in this out door world, everything is a markup I knonw it sucks but I think that this is a normal to make consumers buy, because what would happen is customer would choose the wrong one and want to refund or send back for free, this is a premium product you have to take some ownership as a consumer and know what you are buying to customize to YOURSELF is going to cost extra, same with the cranks, if you wanted this feature it would take longer for ship times and lead times, they have these bikes sitting in boxes ready to go, I couldnt imagine them have to box up every bike ready to order, it would take way longer and be way more expensive

      There’s a reason why canyon is cheap

    • @MikeBaloga
      @MikeBaloga 2 місяці тому +2

      The more companies' offer flexibility and customization in the ordering process, generally the slower it makes their order fulfillment and shipping processes, likely also makes inventory management more complex as it increases the number of possible combinations across all models they offer by 2-3x. All of this will just increase operating costs of their business and those costs will be passed onto the consumers, eroding their primary value prop of their brand and GTM advantage with direct-to-consumer. This is just my opinion but typically holds true regardless of industry.

    Bought a CF SLX 7 a few weeks ago. It rides very well and the geometry was spot on for me coming from my old open mold frame. This include the new PACE bars which I have at minimum width with the tilted in hoods. That adjustable width is a game changer without having to disconnect anything..

    i just cross tested this bike(slx 8), trek madone gen 8 and the giant propel advanced pro 0. this is the one i liked the most and i think i will buy when it will get available again in november. before the test, i was very hyped about the madone gen 8, but at the end was the one that i liked less. the aeroad looks bulky, but when you ride it it’s light and nimble, but at the same time very planted when you get crosswind conditions. i think that canyon engineers found the right formula, at least for me they did 😊

    My cycling friends are partial to Cannondale, Trek, Specialized, etc. I ended up getting a Canyon Endurace to start and still love the bike, but wanted something racier for short fast rides. Ended up buying a 2023 Aeroad SLX 7 w/ 105 Di2. After a couple of mods it's down into 16 lb territory and is a blast to ride. Ended up getting both bikes for under $10k, including some Lun Hyper D45 and D67 wheelsets. I do wish I had the nice to have features of the new Aeroad, but with the sale pricing the last gen was a better value overall.

    Hard to argue with what Canyon is doing in price to performance. I wish for two things: 1) the handlebar attachments were underneath and the top looked like Mathieu van der Poel's TdF bike (flat with white writing), and 2) you could just choose which handlebar you wanted at the time of purchase - straight or the aero PACE ones (same price, just choose). As it is now, I think you have to buy it with the straight ones and then also buy the aero ones. I guess the bonus wish would be the choice of aero bottles like Orbea, Trek, etc.

    • @GCPerformance18

    buyer beware: Wow look at the nice new shiny bike, it’s a beautiful piece of German engineering, but I want to let you know of my experience with Canyon Aeroad CF SL8. I too was delighted with the thought of a sophisticated bike at a reasonable price point. It came with a 6 year warranty, but that warranty is useless. I have logged over 30 thousand miles on my Specialized Allez with no major issues, I have replaced the gear cable for the rear derailleur a couple of times and the tires only once. My 11 month canyon had to have the bottom bracket replaced after only 5,000 miles. I reported this to Canyon and they are blaming me for not taking proper care of my bike. I loved this bike and looked after it accordingly. Washed at least once a week (no pressure wash) locked in the garage overnight and stored in the basement during the winter. After finding a mechanic who would repair my bike (most technician won’t ever look at a Canyon) he told me that the bottom bracket is a cheap one that has no seal against water and debris intrusion. It breaks my heart to have to write this but if I can at least help one person with this it will be worth it. Canyon did offer me a $75.00 voucher on their web site but to me thats useless.

    • @GCPerformance18
      @GCPerformance18  Місяць тому +4

      I mean no lie, 5000 miles on a bb through wear and tear and not being re lubed is kind of rider error, these parts are wear items and they usualy dont come with warranty, 5000 miles is great amount of miles for a bb given that a new one is 40 dollars for either shimano pressfit or sram... It would be like complaining about tires after 5000 miles, these items wear out, as much as I wanted to get behind you because I like hearing bad customer service stories against canyon, this one doesnt seem that bad and also they credited you the bb too so really good job on there part

  • @MikeBaloga
    @MikeBaloga 2 місяці тому +1

    Thanks for the overview....i think most of us know all of this based on the PR and info on the Canyon website. What most folks want to know is how does it ride, what are the bikes characteristics, how does it feel compared to the previous model, how does it climb, how does this bike stack up against the Ultimate, which is shares geometry with? We can all read the spec sheets on bikes, it's some more of the subjective parts that i feel most people want to know. I didn't buy this bike 2 years ago because of the handlebar recalls and went with another Aero bike but now i'm interested to see how they've made progress on the development of this with the latest refresh but want to hear less about the marketing and more about the overall feel.
