The ice melts in your throats and it doesn't take long to cough up I choked on a throat sweet thing and I had it in my mouth for two seconds and I don't know how it went down but it was stuck and I chugged so much water...it was lodged in my chest so now I avoid the sweets entirely

my first first aid course was around 9 years ago and every course i have been on (4 since then) has been back blows then abdominal thrusts as back blows are generally easier and safer - you alternate between the two doing 5 of each until the object becomes dislodged or the person loses consciousness, and if they lose conciousness you commence CPR

I think they usually would say sharp back blows - you're trying to force some air out to try and dislodge the obstruction so you do need to hit them confidently, but at the same time you aren't looking to knock them out. The way she started is what I'd expect to see right through, she will have gone gently when making contact since it is obviously just an acted out scenario so they don't want to hurt one another - but if you're not breathing through choking then a bruesd back is better than being unable to breathe. I dont think it specifically said in the video, but before any physical Intervention you should encourage them to cough it up, as that is the body's natural way to clear the airway and with encouragement you might calm them down enough to get them to cough it up.. If they can't cough it up is when you would do back blows and abdominal thrusts.
