My wife saved our daughters life by knowing how to respond when she had a completely blocked airway whilst eating. She had seconds to respond and we both thank god she had received first aid training. If you have kids, or supervise kids, please learn how to do this.

Why thank god and not first aid/medical knowledge? He’s just as responsible for allowing it to happen as He is responsible for treating it 🤦‍♂️

My daughter was 18mth and choked on a chip. As a preschool teacher of 11yrs, I thank God I had that training over the yrs. You always wonder if you’ll handle that situation well or panic.. I must say, there wasn’t a seconds hesitation. Grabbed her, threw her over my thigh, face towards the floor and began thrusts on her back. She threw up everywhere but I couldn’t have cared less. She’s 3 1/2 now.
I was so glad to hear you say choking can be silent. I’ve told my husband that so much, I would leave the room and ask him to watch her, he would respond “I’m right here”, and that was always my response, “they don’t always make a sound when they choke, Watch Her”.

Love that she goes into details about the things to watch out for and how to cut foods, as a Daycare provider I always recommend parents learn infant and toddler CPR. And not only that but develop safety habits...buckling kids into seats and not just sitting there because a table attachment is in front of them, if you have an infant always put soft things or Ideally mats, on the floor with them if they're learning to balance and sitting up. When they're learning to walk, walk behind them just incase they fall backwards or forwards, always do quick checks when they fall or even at night to make sure older children's wounds are healing properly and that they aren't picking at them....I want my kids to be safe at home and in daycare all the time.

Take a CPR class through the American Heart Association. It will teach you these techniques and more. It also teaches you what to do if the the attempt to remove the object fails and the person goes unresponsive.

Sure you can pray away the possibility but life happens and God doesn't reward willful ignorance. I thank God that I was trained when my mom started choking and I was able to save her.

I remember I was in the first grade. I was eating cocoa puffs in the cafeteria. I guess I ate too fast. The coco puff got longed in my throat. I started to choke I couldn't breathe. Out of nowhere one of the lunch ladies came out. Grabbed me pressed my chest against a garbage can. I still was choking she had to slap my back hard. The coco puff somehow flew out of my nose. She saved my life. ❤ Moral of the story perhaps coco puffs are not that safe for a 6 year old.

My oldest child ( at one and a half ) was eating in his high chair Everything was small sized but I can only think he must have stuffed a large amount in his mouth.
I turned from the kitchen sink to see him laying his head on the high chair.
First thing I did was lift up his body and punch him in the stomach - almost worked but the food seemed to go down again.
Picked him up and did the Heimlich. It worked. Had just left nursing so reacted without panic.
May not have been the correct move but it worked!! It was the only move I knew.

Anything can be potentially hazardous. My hubby knows a person who lost his child because of banana. It stuck in her throat.
My sister once nearly choked to death when she was a toddler. Coz she ate candy while laughing. Her face turned blue, and my dad scooped the candy out of her throat using finger (he didn't know that's dangerous). There's some blood on his finger coz it scratched my sis' throat. And after that incident, he would crash any candies with hammer before giving it to us and he'd tell us to sit down and not to speak or laugh. That kinda take away the joy of eating candies, but that's what I also teach to my kid.

I think you should rename the video, if somebody searches baby choking you video is one of the first to come up, it's a long video until it gets to the actual first aid and there's also adverts. Don't get me wrong it's a very useful and informative video but I feel titling it First Aid you should also mention it's educational or something as that extra time wasted in adverts or trying to find the maneuvers may be critical.

    • @cprkids
      @cprkids  3 роки тому

Thank you for your comment. The video is designed to teach people the first aid before an emergency happens, so they are armed with knowledge to act quickly. We hope that in an emergency someone is not turning to you tube, that. they would immediately call emergency services and the operator can talk them through what they need to do whilst dispatching paramedics. Even in a rural area, it is best to call emergency services so the trained operator can give you instructions specific to your situation.

Hi, I really like how detailed your videos are, but I am confused about conscious choking in children greater than 1 year old. I've seen several other youtube videos from children's hospital and medical sorts who show the response being abdominal thrusts above the belly button in a hugging/heimlich-like hold. Your video is the only one where I've seen back blows and non-"hugging" abdominal thrusts for children greater than 1 year old. I was wondering if you could explain what the reason is for that difference.

We go by the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines (ANZCOR) evidence based practice guidelines - here is an excerpt from the guideline and a link to the full guideline (section 4 Airway):
A Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) is a life-threatening emergency. Chest thrusts or
back blows are effective for relieving FBAO in conscious adults and children.1 [Class A: LOE
IV] Life-threatening complications associated with use of abdominal thrusts have been
reported in 32 case reports.1 [Class A not recommended; LOE IV] Therefore, the use of
abdominal thrusts in the management of FBAO is not recommended and, instead back blows
and chest thrusts should be used. [Class A; LOE IV] These techniques should be applied in
rapid sequence until the obstruction is relieved.1 More than one technique may be needed:
there is insufficient evidence to determine which should be used first.1

Call ambulance FIRST! , leave on speaker phone , then do manoeuvres. Takes a few seconds to make the call . If you wait till all other options have failed that is vital time wasted waiting for help . You can always cancel an ambulance, you can't bring back the dead
