I've experienced this myself back in April of 2019 and it was the scariest 2 mins of my life. I was alone when it happened and choking nearly took my life that day and nearly 2 weeks later. After the first swallow the food did not go down my throat. When that happened I did a deep swallow and the food was lodged in the middle of throat blocking my airway. I started to panic within the first 10 seconds knowing something was very wrong and I was choking. At about 30 seconds I did 9 hard deep thrusts to my stomach area and the food came out simataniously out of my mouth and nose at almost 2 mins. I was having severe chest pain 3 days later and on the 13 day a blood clot traveled to my heart and I almost had a full heart attack. Choking is no joke and people need to understand the seriousness and the health consequences after. I'm thankful to be alive and never take life for granted. That's my true story.
Oh my God! Oh bless you, So how is your health since that happened? I do hope you are alright now. You're right choking is a serious thing & we should all be more aware of it.
It happened to me too. My grandma was supposed to go to bingo and decided to stay home when I was eating Chinese food in the kitchen. She was watching my daughter over the weekend. I was on the phone talking to someone and my food got stuck. I went to my grandmas area somehow and pointed at my throat where she was( she said omg!) and she did the Heimlich maneuver On me. I never ate Chinese food since 2009. She saved my life because of it I stopped eating food for a year and a half due to being scared of eating again. I was 280lbs then dropped to 100lbs. The doctor said if I didn’t eat in less then a week then I was going to die. So I began to eat apple sauce, mash potatoes, and soft food until I was comfortable eating normal food again. It was a very scary situation. I saw my life flash before my eyes.

Yep. I did this exact thing once when severely choking on steak, sitting and eating alone on a patio, at a restaurant. I signalled with my hands to a table in front of me that I was choking…and the guy looked me in the eyes and then ignored me and looked away. I couldn’t believe it. The scariest part was that the food was lodged waaaay down in my windpipe (almost solar plexus level) and my chest literally stopped heaving. I was terrified but also knew I needed to try and stay calm. Simultaneously, I was preparing to die. Seriously. I can’t explain it any better than saying that my body somehow knew it was time and I could feel myself preparing for death-almost resigned to it and hyper aware it was time. And trust me, I’m not being dramatic-I’m not one given to hyperbole. Also, I had initially swallowed some water, trying to wash down the food, and I could feel the water just sitting there, on top of the blockage, swishing around. An incredibly strange sensation, and I was hyper-tuned to my internal body workings. Feeling my lungs stop moving,my diaphragm stiffen and torso start to shut down-very, very odd. I somehow had the presence of mind to stand up and grab a chair. It was one of those wooden chairs with knobby tops and I rammed that into my the area underneath my rib cage. I can’t recall for sure but I think it took a couple of tries…and sure enough, it worked. I exhaled the giant chunk of steak (I was eating too fast and not chewing enough) and also vomited out the water and a tiny bit of food as well. It was an absolutely terrifying experience-scariest of my life. And I am 100% convinced I that, had I not done this, I would have died. Thanks for posting this video!
Jeez that's really intense! I could feel how it must've been whilst reading. I had a similar experience when I was about 10 years old, where I ate some ice which was quite dry/sticky and somehow it ended up stuck inside my windpipe. Similar to you, I remember for a brief while I was preparing to die yet at the same time scrambling to get the message across to people that I was choking. I remember gesturing to my mom, who was speaking to some friends, and at first she ignored me but then I persisted and she got the message - she ended up bear hugging me from behind and after a few attempts the ice literally shot out of my mouth half way across the room. Pretty gnarly how you used that chair to get the steak unstuck though!!

I choked from a brick, and I drinked a potion of healing and it saved my life and I coughed hard to remove the brick that I chocked on, good thing I know how to save myself from choking
This happened to my dad, so basically a few months ago my dad was alone in his apartment and he was eating chicken, and he started to choke on it. He told me that he was about to die, like his vision was turning black, but he remembered this video and he saved himself by leaning on a chair, so this video will save your life if you choke on food, or small toy parts if you are a child.
I kinda get over obsessed about a lot of things, and choking by myself is one of them. This really calmed my nerves at 1 o’clock in the morning! Thank you!
Something to point out is to recognise that you are actually choking. I've experienced plenty of times an issue where food might slip down my throat and my esophagus doesn't open, however the food has actually gone down far enough that I'm not suffocating. If this is the case you don't want to try and remove the food by coughing. This could potentially bring the food up only enough to cause you to start choking. If food gets stuck down your throat but you're not suffocating it's best to just wait until your body passes it through or try solutions to break down the food (however personally for me the times I've had food stuck in my throat the food was so big that the solutions they give like drink water or cola did not help and actually caused me to suffocate on the liquids). It is important to call for medical help if the food doesn't dislodge as you may end up choking on saliva.
And, the best thing would be to have a "LifeVac" Choking Rescue Device which is a portable airway suction device and the unit is good for both children and adults. Keep one at home, keep one in the car. Hopefully they will be there for years and you'll never need to use it, but if you ever do, it's there for you. By the way, I have no connection to this item, I just saw a video or two and was so impressed I got one.
I can personally confirm no.1, it does make it worse, I got from food stuck in throat, to not being able to breathe after drinking water in the attempt to force down the food because it was the first dish of a formal dinner in front of strangers and I didn’t want to embarrass. Cough as hard as you can!
maybe the problem is too much rule while eating the food? I found it kinda weird when I live in a place where people eat like a pig but only found one case people choke to death while eating. turn out he was dine and wine in some 5 star restaurants. I experience food stuck in my throat for almost every time I eat because I eat realy fast. mostly I use water to push it down though sometimes it goes down by it self. I do often experiencing a water that I drink goes to the wrong pipe but never happened while I'm eating. it happens when I got nervous or my mind wondering while i drink something.
To avoid choking in the first place: Always eat slowly, chew your food thoroughly and only swallow little chewed bits of food one at a time. Also sip your drink don't gulp it.
This has happened to me on three occasions when on my own. It's truly frightening when you can't get any air into your lungs. You are sure you're going to die. Fortunately I'm still here to tell the tale, but now cut up my food into tiny pieces.
I have been concerned about this on and off for many years. Nice collection of dos and don'ts. Thanks. Another possibility is to order one of those newfangled gadgets that can suck the stuck food out with vacuum action.
I once choked on one of those huge chewing gums with a hard shell... I thought I'm gonna die and fell on the floor, once I accepted my fate I became very relaxed and it came out by itself
Funny how that works. I fell from a spooked horse and had the breath knocked out of me. When I realized that I was probably going to die because I couldn't breathe, I surrendered, and my breathing resumed.
A 1 in 2600 chance of dying is actually extremely high... I think they meant that when any given person dies those are the chances of dying that way, not the chances of anything randomly happening to you.
Most people choke because they are doing things they aren't supposed to do while eating, or simple because they try to swallow before chewing. If you eat the right way, don't talk and chew correctly it will be practically impossible for you to choke, and if you do it will easily get out of you throat, since you've already chewed it before
This is literally one of my worst nightmares and it can happen SO EASILY I live in fear 🥲 I once choked on tea, for some reason I inhaled instead of swallowing. Drowning in tea wasn't pleasant but at least I could breathe a little through my flooded lungs
Thank you for sharing about this. I didn’t know about it. It’s real life and how to survive of chock alone. It’s better 2 people or more people can see it and helping them choking their tummy to air out of the foods.
I choked on food in the break room at work years ago. There was only one other person in the room, my friend and co-worker. He did the Heimlich maneveur and saved my life. It was hands down the most TERRIFYING moment of my life. I could not inhale or exhale. I could not speak.
I’ve got a cane with a bulbous end. I think maybe I should keep a small towel with it to slightly increase the size and then placing that below my sternum and running against the wall. That would simulate the fist better than a chair.
Around last year, all of this happened within a few seconds, felt like forever tbh lol- anyways I was eating pork, it was a rather HUGE chunk, I was chocking, my Mom was panicking, my Dad was in slight panic but kind of knew what to do and my uncle was highly worried, thankfully, the food was already mid way through my throat, slowly moving downward and weirdly enough, it got down after a few seconds when I tried to swallow it. That was one of the scariest moments of my life- Probably sheer luck since I'm pretty sure it would be even more dangerous to try to swallow the food instead of push it out, but it worked for me and here we are, Thank God.
Well I feel safer because of the steps but I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I always say too my gf that I’m scared to eat alone and she calls me a baby we just had this conversation right before this video came out 🤣

1) dont drink , it makes it worse 2) call emergency services, even though you wont be able to talk to them. 3) cough as hard as possible 4 ) make a fist , place other palm over back of the fisted hand and make strong thrusts just above belly button, inward and upwards. 5) something about falling onto the back of a chair. 6) follow up with medical assessment if youre alive as youre likely to have damaged something when you did no 4 or 5. Go to the morgue if youre dead.
I was alone when I choked on water once- I couldn’t talk or breathe I ran up to ask for help from my mother and she heard me making these sounds and she ran up to me. I was running so fast that I was healed. My mother did not send me to school for 2 days to see if I’m still fine she was with me 24/7
Choking is very scary. It happened to me two days ago. I had swallowed a magnesium capsule. If you have ever taken magnesium the capsules are BIG. First one went down fine. Second one stopped right where your esophagus and trachea come together. I could feel it stuck and sideways in my throat. I'm an RN and knew what was happening and what I needed to do. I could tell I could not get this thing to move no matter what I did. I was eerily calm but at the same time just thinking and thinking how to get this out. I waved to my adult son not far away in the house. He could tell I was choking but I had some air movement. Long story short, I finally pushed my upper abdomen into the edge of the kitchen counter, bent over and the capsule shot out. That was so scary. If was scared to take magnesium again the next day but I did and was fine. I will never forget this experience ever. If you have no air movement at all bend into the top of a chair or arm of a couch. Press your upper abdomen into it and push because your life depends on it. Stay safe all.

I have watched two videos on choking when alone, and both were imprecise on how to use a chair. I can't believe that the clearest explanation came from the 30 Rock excerpts of Liz Lemon choking alone! It showed two methods, and it was clear about where on one's body one is to fall against the chair. 30 Rock used it as a comic plot point to inspire Liz to seek a romantic partner and avoid solitude; however, for me, it has become a life-saving video. You rock, 30 Rock!
As a person who can barely swallow food, this is super helpful. I have to chew til its mush and even then, I have to chase every small bite with water. Ive come near death countless times. I choke usually every other day. 😅 Gotta get a barium swallow test done soon.
It happened when i was in elementary, i choked on my candy because a kid bumped into me. Nobody realized i was choking until i managed to get the candy out by myself. They asked me what happened and i told them the candy stucked and then i walked away as nothing happpened lol. Thinking back it's kinda scary. No one know i was choking so they didn't even try to help me and even said that i was just exhausted. I also didn't know much about what to do so i just followed my instinct to cough it off real hard and managed to get the candy off. Worst could've happened but somehow i managed
I had the same experience today but choked on chicken my friends just looked at me making sure I was good and my friend was patting me it was not helping 🤣🤣
Ya food stuck in your food pipe is not a big deal. Coke or carbonayed water will get it to pass through. Or worse case scenario you'll need doctor's help. Food stuck in the wind pipe is the real culprit
It’s pretty obvious to tell if someone is chocking because their face shows it and because they won’t be able to speak so because of the not speaking part they find a way to get people around them to get the memo that they are choking, example is that I just cough really hard to get the food out cuz that works for me without any help and even if they arnt coughing, their face shows you that somethings wrong because your face changing color isn’t normal
Imagine dying from choking because this video didn’t get to the point fast enough

when i was a kid i choked on some bread i coughed so hard i got lightheaded and the pice bread shot out of my mouth

This one is actually pretty important to know.
I also got one just in case
This is my biggest fear!
Choking while alone.
You create what you fear
The fact that they showed tucker at the end just brightened my day
Yea tucker I watch that it's so nice
I was about to go past it but i went like: "boy you'll never know."
Praying for all of us that have found this video ❤
I had an similar experience last year but thankfully by coughing hard my life was saved.
when you call 911 unlock the door .. you might pass out before they get there, but I hope no one has to go through that.
I can personally confirm no.1, it does make it worse, I got from food stuck in throat, to not being able to breathe after drinking water in the attempt to force down the food because it was the first dish of a formal dinner in front of strangers and I didn’t want to embarrass. Cough as hard as you can!
Also no.2 is very important too because the food was actually too big for me to swallow but I didn’t realise it until too late
maybe the problem is too much rule while eating the food?
I found it kinda weird when I live in a place where people eat like a pig but only found one case people choke to death while eating. turn out he was dine and wine in some 5 star restaurants.
I experience food stuck in my throat for almost every time I eat because I eat realy fast.
mostly I use water to push it down though sometimes it goes down by it self.
I do often experiencing a water that I drink goes to the wrong pipe but never happened while I'm eating. it happens when I got nervous or my mind wondering while i drink something.
Useless information ends at 2:15.
What to do instructions, if you are choking, starts at 4:00
To avoid choking in the first place: Always eat slowly, chew your food thoroughly and only swallow little chewed bits of food one at a time. Also sip your drink don't gulp it.
This is why I’m so quite when I’m eating
This has happened to me on three occasions when on my own. It's truly frightening when you can't get any air into your lungs. You are sure you're going to die. Fortunately I'm still here to tell the tale, but now cut up my food into tiny pieces.
I have been concerned about this on and off for many years. Nice collection of dos and don'ts. Thanks. Another possibility is to order one of those newfangled gadgets that can suck the stuck food out with vacuum action.
Ok I probably will need this!
It's important to remember to eat slowly and enjoy your food without distraction. Chewing is the first step in digestion.
I once choked on one of those huge chewing gums with a hard shell... I thought I'm gonna die and fell on the floor, once I accepted my fate I became very relaxed and it came out by itself
wtf are u serious
Funny how that works. I fell from a spooked horse and had the breath knocked out of me. When I realized that I was probably going to die because I couldn't breathe, I surrendered, and my breathing resumed.
You already uploaded how to survive choking and in that video you explained how to save yourself for nobody's around
Make a very short video version that gets to the point in case someone starts choking and has just a minute to watch a youtube video on this.
Can you please do a video about staying alone with asthma???
A 1 in 2600 chance of dying is actually extremely high... I think they meant that when any given person dies those are the chances of dying that way, not the chances of anything randomly happening to you.
Most people choke because they are doing things they aren't supposed to do while eating, or simple because they try to swallow before chewing. If you eat the right way, don't talk and chew correctly it will be practically impossible for you to choke, and if you do it will easily get out of you throat, since you've already chewed it before
I wouldn’t say it’s that high, actually the chances of dying from choking as opposed to dying from something else
Thanks for this video. Very informative.
This is literally one of my worst nightmares and it can happen SO EASILY I live in fear 🥲 I once choked on tea, for some reason I inhaled instead of swallowing. Drowning in tea wasn't pleasant but at least I could breathe a little through my flooded lungs
Thanks for sharing this video. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone.
Another unbelievable amazing video about surviving some very interesting situation
Also I wish y'all a great day.
Thank you for sharing about this. I didn’t know about it. It’s real life and how to survive of chock alone. It’s better 2 people or more people can see it and helping them choking their tummy to air out of the foods.
NEVER drink water, i once choked on food and drinking water was the worst thing i could’ve done
My daughter in law's father dyed from choking, he was alone at home.
Thanks for video.
Wow that's amazing advice 👏 glad I seen this video 👏👏👏👏👍 from now on I'm only having soup 🍲😋
Just don't sip/ drink too fast. 🤭

I choked on food in the break room at work years ago. There was only one other person in the room, my friend and co-worker. He did the Heimlich maneveur and saved my life. It was hands down the most TERRIFYING moment of my life. I could not inhale or exhale. I could not speak.
I'm glad you are here to tell the tale.Thank heavens for your friend and co- worker for saving your life.

I’ve got a cane with a bulbous end. I think maybe I should keep a small towel with it to slightly increase the size and then placing that below my sternum and running against the wall. That would simulate the fist better than a chair.
I've choked before I was able to save myself because of the first aid and CPR training I got

That was one of the scariest moments of my life-
Probably sheer luck since I'm pretty sure it would be even more dangerous to try to swallow the food instead of push it out, but it worked for me and here we are, Thank God.
Eat Halal food. Don't eat pork. Thank you.
Excellent, thank you.
Idk if I feel safer or more scared that I’m going to choke alone
Why do you say that? 😭
Well I feel safer because of the steps but I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I always say too my gf that I’m scared to eat alone and she calls me a baby we just had this conversation right before this video came out 🤣

@@notacat7127 you can never really over chew, besides it's good exercise for your jaw.
You are not alone in this as from the comments here, there are many people who feel the same way. I know what it feels like, so try breathing through your nose more, try slow breathing exercises & learn how to practice being calm, meditate to music, or use guided meditations. There's plenty online, or on Google play.

Imagine calling 911 when choking
Officer: How can I help you?
You: (silence)
Officer: Hangs up
You: dies
1) dont drink , it makes it worse
2) call emergency services, even though you wont be able to talk to them.
3) cough as hard as possible
4 ) make a fist , place other palm over back of the fisted hand and make strong thrusts just above belly button, inward and upwards.
5) something about falling onto the back of a chair.
6) follow up with medical assessment if youre alive as youre likely to have damaged something when you did no 4 or 5.
Go to the morgue if youre dead.
Go to the morgue if you’re dead. Ok got it 👍
I was alone when I choked on water once- I couldn’t talk or breathe I ran up to ask for help from my mother and she heard me making these sounds and she ran up to me. I was running so fast that I was healed. My mother did not send me to school for 2 days to see if I’m still fine she was with me 24/7
My litter brother chocked once, but thankfully my dad was their picking him up from school 😂

Stay safe all.
when he said to do the heimlich manuever i tried to do it myself just see how it feels then when he said u can face a ruptured spleen i stopped doing that immeadiatly and i got soooo scared lol
I know me too. He also said you could have a collapsed lung & I had that a couple of years ago that hurts. Luckily that was only a temporary thing . But since then I'm very careful .
Once I choked on food, literally couldn't breathe, like no air was going down, I couldn't caught also, but somehow, thanks to God the food came out
This was a huge embarrassment in school. Im in grade 5 and I choked in school so i’m like “i have to go to the bathroom” so in the bathroom i just choked it out lol

This is pretty damn useful to know !!!!
You have 5 minutes to save yourself, I don't like those odds.
Nor me, sounds way too quick. 😱
This happened to me May 11 . Spouse and daughter did Heimlich maneuver. The apple came out. But my right ribs had bruises. Scary …..
If someone is choking near me, they’re screwed. Because I’d probably start freaking out more than them.
As a person who can barely swallow food, this is super helpful. I have to chew til its mush and even then, I have to chase every small bite with water. Ive come near death countless times. I choke usually every other day. 😅 Gotta get a barium swallow test done soon.
Reminder to myself to start at 4:06
Finally a useful video bout damn time
My fear of choking is more than my phobia
Wow this is the earliest I have been!!
If this saves my life, this will be my favorite channel
Also, theres a difference between choking and your food stuck in Foodpipe but not in windpipe.
Ya food stuck in your food pipe is not a big deal. Coke or carbonayed water will get it to pass through. Or worse case scenario you'll need doctor's help. Food stuck in the wind pipe is the real culprit
Super useful video as always👏
It’s pretty obvious to tell if someone is chocking because their face shows it and because they won’t be able to speak so because of the not speaking part they find a way to get people around them to get the memo that they are choking, example is that I just cough really hard to get the food out cuz that works for me without any help and even if they arnt coughing, their face shows you that somethings wrong because your face changing color isn’t normal
You can't cough if your airway is blocked.
