I just put a mechanical seal together and I couldn't understand how the hell it worked. The one I took off didn't look like anything was wrong with but from the knowledge I've gained watching these videos I found out that it really doesn't take much for one to leak.
Explaining mechanical seal with animation is good,it would be better to provide some detailed technical information in the text form to viewers, thanks
Mechanical seals makers seems to forget something about certain materials like the sliding seal known as slide gates opening used in steel ladles at the bottom which has to maintain it's non-leaking status as it slides open and slides close when containing and pouring a million tons of MOLTEN steel flowing right through it. It is made out of a compound of graphite and sapphire. Suspiciously wondering why this material was never experimentally tested since the 1980s to be used as a material component on rotary mechanical seals for propeller shafts and pump shafts.
Excellent video on Mechanical Seals. Makes it easier to understand than dry black and white instructional manuals! When will the new generation of nanotech mechanical seals come into the market?
