Katana ZERO - Psychotherapy - Secret boss fight
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- This video shows the boss fight against the psychiatrist that triggers the achievement "psychotherapy" upon completion: defeat the psychiatrist's final form.
Here are the triggers that might help you provoke this fight:
- First mission/tape of the game, hang up the phone at least five times during your first call. From then on, always hang up when the psychiatrist calls.
- Hotel Mission/tape, let the target commit suicide. Kill the cop on the way out.
- Nightclub mission/tape, hang up before going to see the DJ, talk to the DJ, then later tell the psychiatrist that you talked to the DJ. Keep refusing treatment until the psychiatrist gives up on giving you the drug for your next mission. This is the only time when you should not constantly cut the conversation short - all other conversations with the psychiatrist, before and after this seance, keep cutting him short (red dialog prompt).
- Prison mission/tape, kill the cops on your way out
- Some people say that you should avoid triggering the traps during the Slaughterhouse tape/mission, but I doubt it. In any case, you can avoid the traps whenever there is a big screen: there are motions detectors on the ceiling, and you can dodge-roll past them.
- Mission/tape 10 Bunker the psychiatrist will regret that you were not dead already.
- Mission/tape 11 Bunker Pt2 the fight should occur. It's a great boss fight, enjoy!

I wonder what that drug was. It seems like it allowed the shrink to assault your mind directly. I sincerely doubt he actually turned into some giant Akira monster. After all when you beat him you're sitting calmly in the chair.
I agree, he probably got psychic powers to assault your mind.
@@8rgk Oh, at the end, I thought Zero just got fed up and went back in time before he took it to stab him in the head before the fight
@@thebadburrito1394 Then it wouldn't be necessary to win the fight at all, and the psychiatrist wouldn't dare start the fight either if there was no other possible outcome.
There's another fight in the game where you fight another Chronos user. After enough failed attempts they start telling you that they've seen you make that mistake 100 times, and that the battle is a battle of mental willpower. Since both Chronos users have precognition and can see every possible iteration of the fight, it comes down to who cracks first mentally. That's also why 'deaths' in the game aren't actual deaths. It's one of the infinite failed attempts that Zero is running through his head before he goes for the successful result(The replays.) Presumably the drug for the Psychotherapy bossfight assaults the precognition directly, so what's happening is only actually happening in your mind as you try to see the future to defeat him.
There is also an implication (that the developer also hinted at) that the fight is not actually real. It is the protagonist suffering from a heavy withdraw hallucination. Main hint being how despite turning into a massive monstrosity, it ends with the psychiatrist in his chair with the sword run through him.
In reality, these two guys were probably having seizures the whole time. Imagine an intern walking in on the scene.
and then he walks in right at the moment zero just fucking stabs the psychiatrist out of nowhere.
Your therapist when your card is declined:
For me, the weirdest part of the final phase is the fact that not only do I recognize the artist, but I also remember skimming through a live stream recording where he drew that exact monster. Back then I had no idea what Katana Zero was so this was a big surprise.
Who was the artist?
Yeah, who was the artist?
@@hashtagunderscore4898 Omg thank you😭

Welp the comment with the artist name is gone
Honestly this is a much tamer way of progressing past the guy, rather than having him beat over the head with the rock his daughter gave him repeatedly until he dies.
Also you don’t feel as bad about it 😅
@@StarkSpider24 you felt bad about that?
@@ValskyrI mean, you did damage the rock.
That animation lasted like 2 hours
I love how we have the time drug, and now what I can only imagine is a drug that controls space and mind. The plot thickens.
The Infinty Syringes
actually it's more likely some kind of drug that gives psychic abilities and allows you to fuck with the mind of your opponent
@@adenisbored2498 It's even hinted at in the bar scene with those two veterans I think, one of them mentions that some of the soldiers could "read minds or whatever" I think
@@andreasballe7470 I don't think the vets were referring to what ever drug the therapist used in that line. A NULL on Chronos could just rewind time and know what cards the other player had. This is foreshadowing for when you as the player will use your Chronos to cheat the roulette table the next day.
It could also be the effects of withdrawal from Chronos and none of this fight actually happened
Sucks that you have to be super impatient in order to get this fight considering how much work was put into it. Was hoping there was a very mysterious way to get it
Loved the game, but the ending was so anticlimactic. This fight shouldn’t be optional, I didn’t even know it existed until I was reading the wiki for plot details.
@@wildweasel4633 in my opinion the ending was just great and totally NOT anticlimatic, the fight was amazing and i think the whole sequence of getting to it was good as well
@@AzazelTV18 Hard disagree. Most people won't even find this boss unless they happen to hear about it.
@@agreedboarart3188 this is less of a final boss, and more of a cool add-on to the base game. The ending would feel anticlimactic with or without him. This was all basically made by 1 guy though, so it’s understandable that only so much could be done.
@@wildweasel4633 i dont think the ending is the ENDING, im pretty sure the dlc will follow up on it
Props on this btw it's hard to fight this guy with the damn flame sword. You strike with the flame sword WAY slower than the normal one. And none of the fire effects actually do anything to him.
You will receive no chronos

The normal sword/master sword works best for this
yea i did the fight with the master sword and found myself wishing id used the savant blade instead, and master sword isnt even that slow...
A... Ki... Ra...
Even though I hated doing this boss, I LOVED this ending.
Also I would like to think that Zero just stabbed him, that the boss fight didn't happen.
It's ambiguous and gives food for thoughts, I like that as well.
It's all in his head but the drugs are real. The drug the psychiatrist took made him psychic.
I think the fight happened, the hands that come from walls in the beginning was the boss' hands trying to hold him irl, or that giant monster thingy trying to stab him with drug was just the psychologist trying to give him some drugs but the drug he used on himself gave him some psychic powers and made zero see like all these happened.
@@sivrisinek777 I thought the syringe based attacks were just part of his aesthetics. I never realised it could just be Zero hallucinating about the guy trying to give him drugs.
both are true, it would be similar to the battle of willpower with the fight with the other soldier
The best moment in the whole game. And it's a pity that most gamers, after playing the game and even passing it, may not guess (except if they do not read the Internet) that there is a secret boss. And even knowing that it is there, it is very difficult to open it. But he's amazing. And this is the best thing in the whole game.
i like how in the second phase, slowing down time doesn’t affect the screen as much as before, as if chronos has become a complete part of you now.
Okay, adhering this detail as a headcannon... zero doenst need the drug anymore because he can Just use chronos naturally now and is basically a time god
I'm usually not that into indie games, but this...this is the thing that got me into Katana Zero in an INSTANT.
Same here. I think im halfway through it now. I had no idea what this game was going to be about when it was released and i am so happy i bought it now.
This literally made me pirate and play through the entire game just to get to here. Then I went and purchased the game anyway just to give the company money.
Yeah. I don't like Indie games. I played much of them and they are not better than AAA titles. Just a bunch of boring retro styled platformers and roguelikes. But Katana Zero is a masterpiece, that I liked.
@@lolstationvita5922 Generalize much?
@@lolstationvita5922 For me, there wasnt any AAA game I liked that came out in the past 5 years. Witcher 3 was the last one I liked and it came out quit long ago. While there were several indie games I enjoyed (Katana zero, hollow knight, firewatch...). Most indie games are bad, but most good games are indie games. This is how it is for me.
I like to think he sets you in the chair, injects himself with a sort of mind-control serum, and sits across from you to watch you slowly succumb to madness. As the battle goes on, you slowly break free until the end, where your character reflexively swings the katana into his skull as a waking twitch, like how you jolt when falling in a dream.
that's a really good interpretation ngl
I like to think it was all a precognition me What happened if he really took it,But zero decided to Just kill bom before he could

Theres a great detail about the outcome of the fight, once you finally beats the 3rd phase. If you beat the game as normal, Zero will violently murder the his psychiatrist, and then proceed to take 3 doses of Chronus back to back. HOWEVER, if you get this secret boss, Zero does kill the psychiatrist, but, in the end, he doesn't take any chronus at all.. Possibly hinting to the fact that he overcame, at least partially, his severe addiction to Chronus, and the nightmarish withdrawal symptoms.
Thats what I think this finally truly represents, specially the third phase. You are fighting Zero's Chronus addiction, and his withdrawal from the drug. Honestly, I believe this to be the good ending of the game ideally, as Zero himself acknowledges how cruel Chronus really is (in the Cathedral scene). On this ending, it feels like he has defeated, at least this once, his craving for the drug.
Katana Zero's lore is very philosophical in various regards, and its story could make reference to lots of things about our society itself. Zero's situation with Chronus could be a take on the actual reality that is drug addiction
Its Chronos btw not Chronus, otherwise very interesting.
isnt it established that a chronos withdrawal symptom is death?
I like to think that the drug the psychiatrist took allows the user to assault the enemy with the user’s mind directly and this fight taking place in there minds, since growing into that abomination or having powers like that is impossible

Gee, didn't knew these guys were manufacturing Joy as well as Chronos
Lol he does sort of look like a joy mutant around 3:02
You'd think it was the g virus given how phase 2 looks
There's something existentially horrifying about the existence of _more drugs than Chronos_ that can possibly trap you in a hellish nightmare for eternity and able to end in an instant that whiplashes the mind.
I feel like the therapist is lowkey a pushover. Everytime it seems like he wants to be angry at you but everytime you speak peacefully he'll also follow you properly instead of continuing his anger
It’s cause he has to tolerate zero since zero is a valuable asset for the cause of the psychiatrist and his higher ups. From the beginning of the game, he has to mask it at least keep to a minimum his contempt for zero and provide him the chronos so they can keep using him
thats his job lmao
I remember a couple years ago seeing this video thinking it was fake not even a day later I was playing and the therapist started floating in the air like in the video and I made a visible ": O" face I have yet to be as surprised as I was in that moment
I can get behind this idea. I had a feeling we'd get to fight him eventually
My theory on his is that the drug the therapist took didn't work or made him slightly stronger but was still a pushover for zero. I think Zero was just going on a massive hallucinatory nightmare trip due to running out of chronos and attacking nothing. It could just be a manifestation of his frustration and confusion, and a way for him to justify torturously killing the guy to himself. It's also possible they were experiencing the same trip, or tripping together, interacting with each other's minds. I don't think the body horror drug really exists, or at least it doesn't really work. If it's really stronger or rivalling chronos it would've been used more or would be more prominent in the game. I think they're just failed experiments, Chronos being the only one that worked.
I like to think it was real... But not really because it was a precognition zero had of what happened if the therapist took the drug, soo he decided to Just kill him before he could
@@Jpx0999 Actually, the Second phase with the monster is probably Zero hallucinating and trying to fight his own chronos addiction. (Note that in the original game Zero injects himself with chronos but here he just walks away)
In the first phase, whenever you die, the pyschiatrist mocks you, but in the monster phase the game just says "..."
Moreover, the first phase ends with you stabbing eyes, which is exactly how the psychiatrist died. (You remove the katana from his eye)
So the monster bit is just happening in Zero's head and the psychiatrist died before it.
This game just became a whole new subgenre of sci-fi
I think that's called cyberpunk.
The whole setting for the game IS some sort of ciberpunk distopia
Bro thinks he’s tetsuo 💀
I'm honestly surprised they hid this boss behind the impatient options as oppose to navigating the dialogue options to provoke the therapist into doing this.
Well, I think most people want to choose to wait patiently for all of the dialogue options and thus don't usually interrupt the NPCs before they're finished speaking. And technically, this boss was triggered by multiple things, like hanging up on him constantly and going against direct orders, throughout the game.
@@3479Emily I think the idea was that after getting the "good" ending and finding out that the psychiatrist planned to eliminate zero from the start if he asked too much, the player would be angry enough to be a total dick to the psychiatrist in the next run, triggering the secret encounter
That looks like a mix of William Birkin and Nemesis' respective final forms.
The boss looks disturbing in the final phase but music is top notch
They should have made this the regular ending and nobody would have complained about there not being an ending
I imagine the second drug's name would be Oranos, referencing the Greek god of space
I love the way the therapist turns around and points at Zero! It just feels menacing for some reason
Good session Doc.
i feel like the first part of the fight was real
but the transformation part was the therapist directly fucking with your mind
The "Genjutsu" drug. Allows the user to pull who they choose to pull, into another dimension of some sort all in their minds.
That Psychiatrist went from Dr. Strange to Tetsuo!
new little nightmares update looking crazy
I love the idea that the drugs just heavily assaulted his perception of reality until he eventually ended up stabbing the psychiatrist in the eye
Looks like the Psychiatrist had a little too much Joy
did u really think chronos was only the drug that government developed ?
It explain how are there kissy face, V, and maybe tragedy and comedy (?) get their own superhuman power
in other theories, the power, it's also chronos.
@@ZennikoCallisto12 maybe different version of chronos?
i think Null Fifteen got the superhuman slash ability from that too..
but Null Zero... since he called as "Subject Null Zero".. i think his chronos was prototype too.
@@hs43a They are just called via numbers in order to not reveal their real identities, and because they were experiments. The numbers are just identifiers.
Regarding "multiple chronos", it's possible, but I think they just dealt with different levels of time manipulation, as Zero's relays on his precognition while Fifteen is clearly able to slice through an entire second of time in an instant.
Don’t do drugs kids.
This is what anxiety looks like
What Katana do you have and what did you do to get there?
I'm wielding the Phoenix Edge, it adds flames to my attacks. The key is dropped by the burglar in the mansion level, if you let him leave peacefully, then you get the key and leave the level before time runs out (he takes a long time before leaving through the window). There are hidden keys throughout the game, giving you access to different katanas located in the Government Lab, that's the last tape after you completed the game.

How would it work
@@TVEDJS14999 I don't have any actual ideas of how it would play like, gameplay-wise but it would be intresting if it was some sort of warped perception of the real world since it's basically a direct attack on people's minds. Like the user of that specific drug would veiw people as flesh monsters or something. I would like to see how the drug the pyschsrtist used works from someone else's perspective. (as someone else who uses the drug to specify) Because it proves that there are other drugs besides Chronos. And it seems the two masked guys are using It too perhaps. There are people who people saying it's just a part of Zero's mind and while I understand the theories I personally think they are real. Really hoping to see what happens in the DLC so we can find out the validity of what happend to the little girl.
dont know what i was expecting but that wasnt it.
Unlike some theorys which show this as a mental Battle
I like to think the WHOLE Battle is a precognition zero has and he Just killed the therapist before he could use the drug for real to stop new mecca from being destroyed by him
I doubt there was "a drug" from the Therapist. Multiple times in the game it's shown that Zero's precognition can sometimes be limited to by what he knows, so while this fight is indeed his precognition thinking something big could happen, it doesn't need to mean that the drug actually exists.
