  • In this video, Mike teaches you the best putting drills that will help you lower your score on the greens. Too many amateur golfers from 20 to 30 feet from the hole will 3 putt more than a 1 putt. This puts an emphasis on putting the 1st putt to a 3 foot proximity to the hole, then sinking that putt for a 2 putt which is another element touches upon in this video! Mike goes over the "Around the World" drills which solidifies your putts from 6 feet in. He also goes over the "3 to 1" drill that allows you to eliminate stabbing at the ball on those long putts. Try these out and let us know if your score is rewarding you for it!

    Great video . People say “you can’t putt tentatively “ but when I relax and feel confident , I tend to run it 8 ft past the hole . It’s what keeps me from being a single digit golfer . I’m going to try these tips and I subscribed to your channel.

    I hardly comment on videos. But, I watched this video because I was struggling with my lag putting. Focused on the “big circle” around the hole in my last round and not the hole and shot my personal best 76. Putting was less stressful not worrying about making 20 footers and getting the speed exactly right. Thank you

    I have applied this philosophy in the last 6 months and have gone from 11.6 handicap to 3.8. Admittedly, I didn’t really have much a thought process about putting other than the Happy Gilmore “go to your home”. Great stuff!

    I used to use the eGolfring. I have 6', 4', and 18" diameter rings. It helped my distance control immensely. I have stopped using them and now folow Bob Rotella's theories in Putting out of Your Mind. It's a different mindset. I believe doing things in that order, practicing putting to a bigger area than the 4.25" hole, and now trying to hole everything after grooving that speed/distance control, has made me improve my percentage of putts made.
    Take that for what it is worth.

    Great drills! Especially like the 3:1 lag putting drill.
    Regarding expectation on 15 footers I disagree with you on the attempted two putt - I feel that we should not expect to hole the long putts, and try not to beat ourselves up when we me miss. However, I'm trying to hole every putt! Ha. I don't care how long it is. I do sink some long ones and I think it helps that this is my intention. To each their own though.
    Great video though.

    • @PorzakGolf
      @PorzakGolf  Рік тому +2

      We are always trying to make our putts and 15 footers. However the best putters in the world make 21% of their 15 footers. Managing expectations is a big part of allowing you to play your best!
      A 12 handicap should be sure to not get too excited about that 15 footer where they could knock it 4-8 feet past. You are not losing strokes 2 putting from 15 feet, you are when 3 putt.

    I’ve heard and observed that most almost all good putters tend to move their head slightly toward the hole on the backswing and away from the hole on the downswing, and that most amateurs do just the opposite. I can see clearly how your head moves. This is something I constantly struggle with, causing off-line strikes and all too often causing the putter to ground-out before the ball. Watching your video reminded me that I need to pay more attention to this. Thanks.

    I was a pretty good long putter all of my life. One of my keys was to not dwell very long over those longer putts. When you step up to the ball, hit it. The logic behind this is that your sub-conscious knows what to do from all your past experiences. Don't get in it's way by thinking too much. I also think adding just a small amount of extra break at the last minute gets more balls in the hole too. Balls break more than you think as they slow down.

    i digress, i have trouble with the 3 & 1 concept/style, the putts "went all over the shop" very long to short. So my question is - Does the backswing have to go back high and finish high as in your demo? i am in the horrors with my putting. On the practice green they are 95% close but out on the course 60% close the other 40 vary from 15 foot past on a 30 footer to 4 foot short on a 12footer.

    Where did you get that stat about a 12 handicap three putting from 15 feet? I do not believe that a 12 handicap will three putt more often than make a putt from 15 feet.

    • @PorzakGolf
      @PorzakGolf  11 місяців тому

      We get our stats from the KING of stats Lou Stagner he uses all data from shotlink for pros and arccos for the weekend warrior. In his tweet on 6/20/22 at 8:17am he clearly states that the typical 12 index will three putt more than hole out so manage your expectations!
      You could also do your own research and sit on the 18th green of your local golf course and count how many 12+ handicappers make a 15!foot putt and and how many 3 putt. My guess is that 2 would 3 putt and 1 would make.
      Thank you for watching! Expectation management is a huge part of Golf and you guys can all safe strokes by just making good decisions and focusing on what’s important!
