I started taekwondo at 4 years old and reached black belt by 9 years old. I moved at 10 and hadn't practiced in years. I'm 25 and starting over at my local dojang and these videos have helped me so so so much. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Students are understanding better due to these videos and I can't thank you enough.
oh my god this brings so much memories back from my childhood. Growing up in Korea, Taekwondo is the thing that almost all kids learn. I also trained and was athlete for few years. I still think about my Gwanjangnim after 20 years. It really helped strengthen me physically and mentally. I wish my parents kept my Dobok and belt which had my name sewn on. Thank you so much for very detailed video! Now I can teach my kids better.
I see all the disagreements on what or who is right or wrong about these movements. The learning and dedicated practice of a variety of self defense techniques empower an individual to deal effectively with many threatening situations. The more you have learned and practiced, the more variety you have at your disposal to escape harm or during sport competition. The central goal of martial arts is to avoid violence altogether. This is where courtesy and self control are more important than getting into a fight.
Had my first taekwondo lesson last week and was so confused when the teacher was going through these steps. Where tf do my arm goes? What if I take a wrong step? I couldn't catch up!!!! But this vid really fills me in on the important stuff. Thank you for this!
I learned this in 1975, while learning to kickbox. Each move we did in this video, we did with force from the hips. Also, when we approached forward, we swept our feet and legs closer in the center before pushing them outward at the end. But our punches were forceful by our hip thrusts for power punching. This helped us to remember to always use your hips to generate power in all movements.
TYMoon videos are showing students demonstrating good front stances with momentum control, ankle and foot alignment, hips are square, and techniques not over extended. These students have very good posture and composure. These videos are a very example of proper basic movement - unlike almost all other videos that show poor footwork and overemphisis of upper body movement. After some years of not teaching, I 'm now starting a new class from scratch and have decided to use TYMoon's videos as examples for training my first ,and only, new student (6 years old) to be a helper. Thank You (TY) gamsahamnida - Kwan Jang Nim, TYMoon...With Blessings
Thank you so much Grand Master. Your videos are so helpful to me. I have not practiced in several yrs, for various reasons. I reached 4th Dan under a couple of Grand Masters and loved training, now at 74 I was asked to help teach TKD here in pretty much a retirement community in Green Valley AZ. I didn’t even know where to start. I have several books but I need visualization. Thank you so much for your demonstrations. Your forms are a thing of beauty and strength to watch. God Bless
Thank you for making this video, I have a taekwondo test and I always embarrass myself doing this form. But this video helped me memorize it completely. Once again thank you!
This is the best demonstration of the basic movements as a white belt. I made diagrams of my forms, one step fighting, self defense in a small book. We didn't have UA-cam in the late sixties. It was hard for camera to capture a round house kick.
When i was young, i got into taekwondo. But i quit, my late father was disappointed in me tho. So now, even it's basic, i want to learn back, before i go into the real club ^_^
I love how you explain all the stuff so simply and yet effectively. I'm just a new Taekwondo student, getting ready for my white belt test, and this video REALLY helped me out. Thanks!
I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to post these videos. I took my yellow belt test yesterday, and I am thankful you had this video up to help me work on form from home. I passed. I have not been able to find any good videos on the white belt one step sparing and thought I would share that with you since you are doing such great videos, that might be helpful for others as well. Again, thanks for the helpful video, I passed. Have a blessed week. Dale
You're actually at a very good age to start because you have enough maturity to practice and keep on doing what your doing instead of taking it lightly and giving up.
im 27, i been training just for one month and next week is my first belt test , so if i can do it you can do it too! you are at a great age, but more important than age is patience, motivation and discipline, good luck!
Excellent tutorial video. There are a lot of comments from people wanting to practice taekwondo at home. The 'StanceSetter' range of mats enable you to learn stances quickly and easily without the need for constant corrections by an instructor.
Thank you very much. My master taught us very faster and i never managed to catch up neither my classmates. Thank you Grandmaster for making this video. It helps me a lot. 🤗 Lot of love from Malaysia.😄
I used to do TKD and loved it, but for reasons I stopped. It’s great to have such a great video like this explaining everything so even a rusty person like myself can do it.
Thank you for making these, I am looking to get back into Taekwondo did it from the time I was in elementary school though high school then it fell off the wayside. But I've recently come to learn its what always use to keep me settles and focused and not feeling like I am an out of control nut. Right now id be a discase of a 1st degree black belt and need to get myself back to where I was before I look at going back into a dojo.
I've subscribed to this channel, very good information. My son is 6 years old and 3 months in Taekwondo. He's naturally flexible. He went from white to stripe yellow. His teacher is teaching the children this form. We use this video for to help him with form. Thank you for this great video. Took him about 15 minutes to figure it out and now he can do it. Thank you very much!
I've started learning martial arts when I was 3. I barely got anywhere because we kept moving, so we never stayed at one for too long. About 3 years ago, I stopped Tae Kwon Do because my whole right leg hurt. It was joint something idk. I was about to get my striped green belt, but I haven't gone back since, due to the virus. I tried again today (at home ofc) and my form was so messed up I couldn't even remember how to low block correctly. Good thing I found this lol
I started taekwondo when I was 6 and now I’m 20 and I fight in rings now 🤗 I’m unbeatable :D I probably am but I’ve been champion for 2 years straight so I’ll wait till I get defeated. Until then, I’ll keep breaking my back each match :)
This is almost exactly like the Kion Katas that we do in my school ('Kata' basically means pattern or form). I'm not very familiar with the basic forms of Taekwondo, but at our Dojo we practice Isshinryu Karate and we have six Kion Katas. The only difference between your Basic Form and the Kion Katas are that we use Seisan stance (feet shoulder length apart, the front leg slightly bent, and the back leg is behind you and bent. Seisan stance is different in that our back leg is bent and not as far back as your stance), our fists are not a hammer fist when we do a leg block, and we don't use corkscrew punches. Oh, and if you were wondering what the other five Kion Katas were, they are the same footwork except we use different blocks, excluding one of the Kion Katas (number six). Number one is with a leg block, number two is with a side block, number three is with a head block, number four is a leg block followed by a side block, number five is a hammer fist side block to the opposite side of your chest followed by a leg block, and number six utilizes a stance called a 'cat stance' (I'm not going to explain it, it would take too long to describe). Once you turn to your left and into a cat stance, your hands are open and in a spear hand; one at your solar plexus and one in an open hand side block. When the hit is called, you do a front kick (I think it's called a front snap kick in Taekwondo), step forward, and do a spearhand (use the same foot work and repeat).
I've watched lots of UA-cam videos, I can almost call myself a UA-cam junkie, this video though is THE best one. I wish your school was near me. I'd happily join your school.
I'm 10 and my grandmom will be putting me in Taekwondo soon to practice and learn different skills and kinda like defence. My friend does taekwondo so she teaches me me a few things that she knows. But this helps a little of showing me a thing of what would sort of happen.
my name is peace im white belt from the philipines PTA,i already did that but the problem is my forward stance i was looking it in youtube when i see this i already did the proper forward stance thank you very much
im learning this right now in korea.... so there is a major language barrier, it took the teacher like 3 classes to explain he wanted me to say "ap" when he said "gihap" loool
I'm a red/black belt that form is called kibon poomse. Some schools use it once you learn the form so you can get your white belt. But it is not a taegeuk form. The first form is call Taegeuk LL Jang most of the time going from white to yellow. But kibon poomse is the first form you will learn in most schools so you learn the basics. And start understanding the patterns . You will not start the poomse's until your a black belt starting with koryo poomse . P-1

Was there a reason for them to change the forms? I remember it was originally: high block, punch, inner forearm block, punch, high block punch, and then turn around and do the same thing in the opposite direction so like what gives?

I just started taekwondo and i was sooo confused during my 1st lesson, this really helps, im just confused about if you should bring out your right/left arm or leg and all that
I'm taking karate but we are doing this but for some reason they want us to being our feet together before each turn or something to do our katas. I had been practicing it this way for a week so now I'm so confused and I feel like any move I make is wrong these days. I finally felt like I could be somewhat good at something and now I'm back to being self-conscious and feeling inadequate
I suck at this still I’m considering quitting tkwdo for bjj or mma I just can’t remember it I choke about halfway thought I didn’t have this problem before lockdown.
I'm 15 and I wanna start either taekwondo, martial arts, or karate. I'm really skinny and unfit but I wanna start one of those as a hobby and to get some exercise. Idk if I should start becuz I'm a little scared that I'll probably get hurt. Idk much about either of those....any advice?
It's normal to be scared when you start anything new, so you can't let that fear stop you. Instead, why don't you start slow and take some pressure off yourself? Start with basic stretches, basic kicks, blocks and punches. If you stretch well before and after any training session, you're less likely to get hurt. And that goes for most sports!
Yellow, the forms shaped like an uppercase i and has the same movements each time your turn, while you probably learned this by now, there are like 3 more plus every other form as you progress threw the art.
Lovely You youll generally be able to pass the lower level tests, as an instructor it would be really hard for me to test, but youll be fine until you get higher up but by then i trust youll be ready.
Thanks! Check out our new vid which includes a few more tips. We will be releasing a new video each week! Good luck on your test! Kihap loud with confidence!
i am 30 and had PID from bike xcident(5 years ago) where dr had to operate my backbone to fix it. is taekwondo suitable for me? is it okay to start learning at my age? will it give back the strength of by back and waist?
