How do you think Vecepia would have done on Winners at War?
Check out all of my winner story videos here - ua-cam.com/play/PL-J4ldj2BdE1pDG9Fs6QMvZB30EXCvAqv.html
She probably doesn’t make it too far since the old school players were very quickly targetted but I can see her playing a similar game to Yul and placing around there, maybe even a bit further. Probably along with Rob, maybe get burned by that as he was heavily targetted from day 1. It’s hard to say how she’d do on an advantage-heavy new school season like WaW since Marquesas was so long ago, it’s a completely different beast.
Among the better of the old schoolers I think. She has a low key game that could've gelled with the new schoolers without being threatening.
Vecepia's reaction to winning is the BEST one out of all 38 winners
facts
46 now
It is crazy to me how she beat Neleh with a jury full of Neleh's peers and did it by flip flopping between alliances. She played a heck of a strategic game.
yeah she played an impressive game for s4
I really enjoy these videos. But the bottom line is find anyway possible to get to the end an have the respect to get the votes. It’s not what moves or control you had in the game. It’s about making the other castaways feel that when they go to sleep at night they are okay with saying _______ beat me at survivor. It’s never about you it’s about the people around you
Vecepia was the original Sandra (anybody but me), Danni (kissing ass to get favor of the ruling majority-Rotu) and the originator of the voting block strategy when during F5 that although Sean and her looked aligned they were just voting together because it moves them further into the game!!! The most strategic thing she did is what Kathy said her strategy about never initiating and saying yes to all alliances but weaseling her way in if she can which is standard gameplay now because old school survivor especially during season 1-4 were still trapped between having “integrity” and just playing cutthroat so I would say also one of the first “new school” thinking that anything goes in the game! She needs more credit and I think they should have her back during the WaW reunion with all the other winners and play in Old vs New School season!
This was a super weak season toward the end of it. Vee was a nice and charming person but she was never seen as a threat and also had a big unfair advantage(notebook) in the only immunity she really needed to win. I wouldn't even rank her in the top 30 tbh and I wanted her to win over Nelah.
Easy_Nator_Gamer lol how is it an advantage when everyone had the opportunity to get to know everyone and memorize all them facts she just was smart enough to bring something she can write on and everyone could have done that...that’s not luck, that’s preparation! She started from the bottom, she was not a typical phenotype of the survivor winner ( more introverted and quiet) at that point and capitalized on her strengths, she will always be notable and paved the way for the UTR underdogs to win
I'm from Chile and by the time this season aired in my country I was probably 9 years old. There was almost no black people here yet I saw myself rooting for Vecepia from the get go because I loved the human way she interacted with people. And now I realize she was actually the first person of color that had any shot to win the show. Thanks to her impressive social game, Vecepia made it 5 tribal councils longer than Gervase, from Borneo, the longer lasting black person until Marquesas and, even better, she won! She became the first black woman to win survivor and, 36 seasons later, she's still the only black woman to ever win survivor. One of the only three women of color to win but the only one who hasn't at least participated of 4 seasons of CBS reality shows.
She was excelent representation and open many minds at her time, including mine. She's an underrated icon. I want her back!
I'd say that this is the first underrated winner we had. When I first saw this season I was thinking Neleh should have won just thanks to the flip but Vecepia played great under the radar game and it's sad that she has not returned yet.
The fact that Vecepia beat Neleh with a jury consisting of Neleh's peers says a lot.
V really was such a game changed
@@camerontrout8959 You are totally right. Rewatching these videos reminds me that even in early season there were some strategic forces.
Once Upon An Island well Neleh’s peers were bitter towards her
Production doesn’t want her back
V is one of my fave winners ever because she really helped change the game. She was the first player to not be loyal to a fault and serve herself and her chances of winning. I don’t think people understand how big this mindset change affected the game. She walked so people like Sandra could run later on, who would have been persecuted for being flip floppy had it not been for her starting the trend of thinking individually.
Sandra was never flip floppy person at all. She's the usual loyal ol skool player accept if you come after her then she will come after you and as long as it isn't her
Very well said. I had similar thoughts, but you put it across simply. Sandra and V are my favorites of all time, but V set the stage for her and others. PLAY THE GAME.
@@eizyaws
I agree but inside of the first season Sandra played she was not loyal at all.
- Lied to Johnny fair play and burton for a final 3
- Was planning to get out Rupert
- Agreed to vote out either girl when need be
She is an amazing player but if V wasn't there from season 1 people would find her win bad compared to how V changed.
Vee is so underrated. She proved that flipping on your allies in the right situation can prove vital to getting to the end.
Totally agree. Vecepia made three very smart flips in the game and they all played to her advantage. She flipped on her alliance with Rob & Sean and voted out Rob. Smart move. She then saw how cocky the ROTU 4 were, worked on Pascal & Neleh with Kathy and flipped them and voted out the ROTU 4 one by one. Then she made a final two deal with Kathy that served her well and went tio rocks with Kathy and Pascal went home. And then she flipped for a third time on Kathy knowing she'd maybe lose against Kathy in a final two and made a new Final 2 deal with Neleh. All very smart strategy. I am glad she won and deserved it.
I like how Vecepia starts off seeming pretty genuine but gets more and more scheemy as the season goes on.

Rob’s a villain though, so when a villain says something bad about the player, it’s a heroic trait
Not necessarily. A villain can say something bad about another villain. Like Courtney with John R
Jaming Rhythm honestly wouldn’t really call Courtney a villain. But besides that, we’re just talking about perception here. So if Rob, the bad guy, says he doesn’t like V for any reason, people are going to side with V. In your Courtney example, John R was a bigger villain than Courtney, so if Courtney said something about John R, the audience is going to side with Courtney.
@@Bizzybanks24 I guess your right, Courtney was more of an anti-hero. Okay now I get what you're saying with the above comment
I started watching Survivor from Season 1 about 4 years ago and this was the first great season in my opinion. Vecepia was an awesome winner and I specifically remember her pretending not to know information about other people when they studied for that F4 immunity. Much like Richard Hatch, despite having little precedent in early Survivor, she had her eye on winning from Day 1. Neleh was a nice girl but she didn't even think about the game until the Final 9. I wish she had been back for S40.
This was the first season where some of the people acted like they had actually seen the show before.
@@SouthernSkeptic Except Gabe. He acted like he had never seen any of the seasons lol

V should have been on Winners At War. Not only because she deserved it but also to balance out the old school vs new school divide more.
Actually, I'm surprised CBS didn't cast her to give Boston Rob another previous connection to benefit him
Vecepia is one of my favorite winners. I feel like she was very underrated mainly because of the edit she got. Also her reaction to winning is my favorite reaction in all of survivor.
Vecepia was most certainly under edited, but the moments we got from her were gold.
V played an amazing game, she needed to lay low and let the fools bury themselves, she won her way into everyones graces, and fully deserved her win, seen how big of a threat kat was and jumped on it
I wish she had came back

Still salty that they'd rather bring back Amber with Rob than Vecepia who would've 100% said yes

how come I've never heard anyone speak about what Paschal just said??? He's talking with Kathy about Vee and about deceitfulness and he says at 24:12 "It's cultural, it runs deep" Kathy says what and he repeats himself
Older season, common belief in those times. Watch a lot of the older seasons and there is a lot of casual homophobia, sexism, racism, etc. Its pretty wild how much media depiction of the stuff has changed in a relatively short period of time. How much these views have changed in the real world iteself is open to debate, but the media world as a whole has certainly adjusted to new standards.

Vecepia was the only person I ever predicted would win and I was only 11 when it aired. I remember having a local newspaper that had all of the pictures and names of the contestants. I pointed her out as the winner and then each week I highlighted the photo of the person voted out. Survivor was so big back in these days!
She went into Jury 7 vs 3 (rob, sean, V) And WON the game, that is very impressive.

The fact Vecepia was scrapped from All Stars (in favor of who? Jenna Lewis? Alicia? Amber?) is so embarrassing. She's never been asked back since, ever. A real disgrace. Neleh and Sean also both definitely should've gotten another chance eventually too. :(
The non-winners in All-Stars were gonna vote out past winners, anyways, amid their campaign against them. Vecepia would've been voted out way early in All-Stars, honestly, like AO winner Tina Wesson became the first booted out.

“These people were like ANTS! They were “PHRUEJFTHEUSYRJRSUFYEHRIQOSJEOD” and we’re standing there like 😟”
About the journal thing, I really don't think it's an "unfair" advantage the way people want to argue it, and you can fight me in the replies 😂
At the end if the day it wasn't illegal. All she did was beat the gamemakers at their own game. People forget that Gabe also had a journal, and it could also be argued that Papy's flag is how Maraamu won the SOS immunity challenge. It's literally the name of the game, Outwit, and that's why we watch survivor.
Yeah that was just her being smart nothing unfair about it
And let's remember that she outlasted seven Rotu members after the jury phase without any advantages.
Vecepia is easily one of the most underrated winner, she played a masterful game and CBS decided to just not show most of it for whatever reason. She’s one of my favorite examples of managing your threat level next to maybe Jeremy. She always made sure that a bigger target was in front of her on both sides of the tribe so if she was ever in danger, she wouldn’t be the next to go. At merge she’s in the minority but both Rob and Sean are bigger targets in front of her. At 5, she could’ve been eliminated but again, Sean is seemingly a bigger threat. At 4, while she was immune, there’s a possibility that Kathy still flips to her side because the alliance of Paschal and Neleh is a threat, so even if she’s not immune she’s still not the biggest threat. Then finally, at 3 she’s considered to be less of a threat to both Kathy and Neleh so no matter what, she’s sitting pretty in that final 2. I think future Survivor players should examine her game if they want to make it far, especially players who go into the season with the perception of not being a threat to win.
Hot Take most of the time when it comes to female survivor winners they try to make the winners seen unpredictable by under editing their game while most of the time for men they try to tell a story on how they won.
She was so far ahead of the curve too. They built it up that Carson & MGM from S44 studied and practiced past challenges in preparation for the game, but with only 2 seasons of history to go on (because she may not have seen the S3 finale), she correctly foresaw the final 4 immunity challenge of knowing her tribemates and practiced ahead of time.
I love these one-character story series. Is there a Courtney Yates one, I gotta check, but if not yet, hopin you make one.. a good choice to binge on a sunday.
I don’t miss the recap episodes.
Ironically Paschal,Neleh and Kathy voted off Sean over V because they thought he was more of a threath to win immunity, but the next challenge suited V like a glove!
If you think about it, Vecepia got to see all the original Rotu members get their torches snuffed while still in the game.
For the exception of Neleh.
Well her torch did get snuffed at the reunion. Probst did it when everyone hugged
@@lqkim9756 True. I forgot about Jeff snuffing her torch.
Marquesas ia my favourite season for the early days because I was a little but tired about that major Alliances always going to de end. So it was a fresh novelty.
Great vid! One thing I disagree on is that at F5 Vee never said to Kathy she should align with her and Sean because of what it would like on TV. It’s more to correct the perception that they look aligned because they were black and although it could be said that they have always been aligned its more just cause they had to to get further in the game and it never showed they had an F2 deal! In fact I think this is the first voting block in Survivor history. But yeah my main point is that Vee never said vote with us or you might look racist on TV which i think your video implied. I think Kathy misunderstood that too and probably relayed it wrong to Paschal/Neleh.
So Underrated!!
Vecepia deserves so much more love and appreciation.

A true legend
I am genuinely curious as to why she’s never been brought back. The only season I could see them doing it now (and the one she’s publicly positioning for) is a blood vs. water season. P.S. And it can’t just be that she’s boring...they’ve brought back plenty of way more boring winners/players.
The crazy part is that she has never been asked once. Some survivors get asked and get declined. She hasn't even gotten that.
@@OnceUponAnIsland I think she was contacted and almost made the cut for All Stars but again they thought she was too boring which doesn’t make sense cause they’ve certainly brought back other ‘boring winners’. Tina and Ethan (no offense to either) have been brought back twice. And just from a narrative perspective (first minority winner and now a cancer survivor)...like that’s easy to sell to an audience. It has to be something else that CBS just doesn’t want to say. Like it just comes off like they don’t like her for whatever reason. I mean it’s not like Brian where we all know and understand why he’ll never be brought back. P.S. Kudos on these videos btw. Have been good to watch during the long break between seasons 40 and 41.
Disappointing to hear that considering that she was the first winner to overcome the 'pagonged' curse.
I wish Neleh would have won to spite John and Tammy, who wanted her to basically quit when the jury started.
Boston Rob calls V fake but he’s the fakest person there
Has anyone done interviews with Vecepia recently, anyone know??
Rob Has A Podcast interviewed her in 2020.
Gorgeous prayerful woman. Proud Christian 🙏🏿❤️
Are Pascal and Butche the same person?
After re-watching one of my favorite shows of all time, it’s sad to see how narratives were pushed, and how they decided to promote certain people over others. V played a quiet, deceptive and somewhat genius game that paved the way for others, like Sandra to lay low and still make an impact and still control their own destiny. She definitely should have gotten an opportunity to return, but clearly there are narratives that don’t sit well with the producers of the show.
Vecepia's kind of a hard winner to discuss because of how underedited she was. However, she played a game that we hadn't seen before where she never really had the numbers but never really found herself in danger of going home at any point which you can say whatever you want about, but the fact of the matter is that it worked. One thing about her game that I don't think many people talk about is actually how kind of unintentionally Sean was almost like her shield in a way even though they were never really together fully. While people were constantly trying to get them out, Sean was the one in their wrath most of the time while Vecepia was able to quietly sneak up on them. She plays a very understated game, but it is just as dangerous as anyone.
She had a tough go at it for sure.
I wonder, which of Nelah's peers, after those scathing remarks, voted Vecepia's fourth and winning vote?
John!

Great video can't wait for next time, not a bot btw
Thank you!
The race thing was so awkward. From Vecepia bringing it up as possibility, to Paschal saying something racist and Kathy being oblivious to it kind of proving that really is where her biases are, all the way to the end where Paschal would definitely take Neleah to the end and Neleah would definitely take Pascal over Kathy.
Eh. It wasn't that awkward bro
Its a good sample of how the media at the time treated race controversy situations.
What paschal say
@@nyaaaa2862that it was a cultural thing for Vecepia to be sneaky
just a question, maybe black women can answer: how does vee retain her hair in straight texture given she was getting wet, dirty and very dry in all those conditions? isnt her hair supposed to turn to the natural curly/coily texture of black people's hair? no racism intended, just out of curiosity ✌️
What Vee has in her hair are called micro braids. It's a protective style in which tiny braids are tightly woven into hair. The texture you're seeing is basically her woven braids that have been detangled. You can see how she started the season with tight braids that appeared to be slowly detangled by the end of the season while the roots of the braids remained in tact. Hope this helps.
@@fadumamohamud6735 thanks so much for the info. by the way, have you seen Tijuana Bradley from Survivor Pearl Islands? she lasted 30 days on the island but she was able to maintain her hair in a straight texture and she didn't wore any protective hairstyle. what could she have done to maintain that texture given the harsh environment?
@@karlos_infamous I think she may have used relaxer in her hair which chemically straightens your hair. That might be it.
@@fadumamohamud6735 got it thanks 😉 i have really become curious about black people's hair after i have watched good hair by chris rock.
🌹🌹
The first black winner awesome the best
now that i think of it she is a pretty good player i would want to see her play again i know it will never happen probst & production didnt find her that interesting & dont like marquesas except for boston rob idk if shes really that interesting tv though
1. Tina
2. Vecepia
3. Hatch
4. Ethan
Vecepia?? More like DECEPIA! but i love her tho
Sagittarius queen!!!
Sean & Vecepia were right & so were Neleh & Paschal idk why nobody mentioned it tho.
She should have been All Stars (season 8) instead of Shii Ann
Or on Winners at War. Shii Ann made sense but Vecepia would have been better than Jenna Lewis.
Holy fuck I never caught that line from Paschal. Gross, gross, gross.
She's everything Cirie gets credit as being.
Word.
Queen Vee
So... the Rotu 4, except the general, just wanted to complain about being eliminated. Pfff. Well, at least Jonh asked a question. With a very bitter and angry actitud, but.
She deserved the win
You missed a lot of villainous traits in V, especially the times she flipped on her alliance with Kathy
Unfortunately everything is a judgement call when it comes to hero or villain. I agree that could of been labeled villain.
Loved both Neleh and Vee when I watched both and was happy with whatever outcome came. Tammy being a massive hypocrite and saying she was going to be honest. Lmao. She was just butthurt the Rotu 4 got caught being deceptive.
Tammy was garbage. Her final tribal speech about nelah being greedy because she wanted to make it further than just the merge was awful. She's trashing Nelah because she was competitive and didn't want to roll over and die? The entitlement of there early players was off the charts (looking at you, Lex).
