About 4 weeks ago paddled straight out 2+ miles and first cast 3 ounce hookup baits chovy and a 4 1/2 pound brown rock fish. Caught 3 bass 15-18", 2 large mackerel and 1 red rock fish.
Hey Mark it's great to see you on the water again my friend. I enjoy off La Jolla more than any other area. I too remember the big kelp beds from when I left there in 74. I thought bird rock is close to where you were but 50 Years away the shoreline may have changed and my memory. A great swell day from the wind. You'll get a better day I'm sure. Sorry about the wordy comment, but I've been eagerly waiting for this video. Keep em coming my friend. I told Mikey and Nam I thought they had single handedly lowered the yellow population Lol. Thanks for the video my friend ❤
@DwightPerkins-i7t Bird Rock is a bit south and about the Southern LJ MLPA is. I very often will troll between there and just north of the point. That covers a lot of water and it's easier to follow contours and fish different depths. Yeah the Kelp was so thick that it was like a carpet floating on the surface of the water.
@@markr9312 I remember a narrow street in LJ that went down to a barrier that you could step over and fish a small Sandy area between some rocks. We took alot of corbina and perch from there in the 60s.
Been out 3 times in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Drift and breezy at sunup so tough paddling. First cast a couple of weeks ago just at the preserve line, hookup baits 3 ounce chovy and a 3 pound bass! Paddled out 2 miles? And caught a few more fish. Big mackerel. Went out past Monday and not much. Better wind and drift conditions. 2+ miles out and back and only 1 decent rock fish, 2 white fish under 1 1/2 pounds and 1 mackerel. Going out tomorrow Friday hopefully.
Question. What trolling rod and reel do you use for yellow or large fish? Limited funds so I am using an Okuma converter none line counter. My other reel are cheap spinning. A few years ago for Father's Day I was blessed with a pretty expensive spinning reel and it lasted no longer than the $25 ones. I take them apart and clean and regrease them every 4 the time out otherwise they freeze up. Thank you
@SDFishGuessWhoMeAgain fishing on kayaks for years I learned about maintenance and reels that hold up better in reallly close to and sometimes submerged saltwater environment. I still have several Daiwa Sealine Reels that are still awesome today and are not too expensive. Tight Lines!
Thank you for the videos.

@@SDFishGuessWhoMeAgain that sounds like a great day fishing and being rewarded for the effort. Tight Lines!
Thank you! Not making it out today Friday. Someone needs my truck. Will be out tomorrow 5am if all goes well.

Hey Mark, water was 68-69 there today. It was very nice but no fish.
I seem to have picked the wrong day, the web cam showed it cleared early and was nice and sunny both Tuesday and Thursday. Tight Lines!
