I use the Hobie Pro Angler 14. It's big but with wheels easy to get into water. Went from Kittery Me all the way out to the Isles of Shoals In that Hobie.
Its hard because of different needs. For me. I need the lightness most because I use wheels and drag it every time I am out. Great comparison and a lot of help. I have been looking at pedal kayaks. Thank you
Coming from a guy who bought a new model Hobie PA in 2008 and has had 6 Hobie’s in total since, I sold my last two PA’s and bought two Old Town Predators with the PDL drives and there’s no comparison. The PDL drive is rock solid and the instant reverse is insane. It’s fast too. Last year I tried a Hobie Outback with reverse and to me, it sucked lemons sideways. Getting your peddles aligned then pulling on the release, then going backwards, then aligning the pedals again then pulling on the release to go forward again was terrible. The PDL is instant reverse. Hobie’s 360 drive is awesome but not many people can afford it. At that point I’d get the Old Town with the trolling motor drive and spot lock with a good lithium battery. The Catch is a deal if you don’t care about reverse. My farm and fleet had one tonight on clearance for $1100. It’s lightweight too unlike the Hobie PA’s. We have a fantastic quarry by me and getting the PA out was terrible. The Predator goes in easily and out just as easy as it’s a limestone entry/exit. My $0.02.
@garovetsas4125 mine was 2700 for the Sportsman pdl 120 Grey Ghost. I live about an hour from oldtown, so I am not sure if that affected the price.. i love it! I'm about to put an ice breaker on it so I can go fishing 😄 🤣
i have the same Old Town but in the Predator and my son has the outback and he will leave me in a race and he's only 11yr old where I am 40. but I have had them all and the PDL from Old Town is my favorite.
I love my old town 106. I lean a little into the turn which seems to help. Also if you have to take the drive out for some reason and accidently drop it in the water, the old town is designed to float.
Glad to hear the Pelican has good value and can somewhat compare to higher quality yaks. If and when I upgrade to pedal, I just may stick with Pelican.
Long time subscriber! I love these comparisons. My ONLY complaint with this particular video would be simply that the Old Town and Hobie pedal drive kayaks are more than likely a good bit out of your average person’s budget. I’ve been looking for awhile but can’t justify spending that much. I’d likely end up splurging for the Pelican pedal drive.
LOL i am sure you can silicon glue the sensor to the inside of the kayak just make sure there is no bubbles in the glue and the sensor will see thru bottom if that don't work anymore then you can cut silicon with piano wire or stainless trace wire
I live on the big island of Hawaii and a kayak. I don’t think it’s very suitable for my kind of fishing. If and when I move back to the mainland and on smaller waters, I may give it a shot. Thanks for sharing.
I've owned over 100 kayaks of all shapes types and sizes. After aquiring a CATCH 110 which I loved more than any HOBIE or other pedal drives I've owned I did a little research and found that the CATCH130 is set up exactly like the 110 but it's bigger! So I got one! My first suggestion for anyone getting a hydryve or hydryve ii is to replace the Pelican sprockets with Hobie sprockets! (Watch my video) Since getting my Catch kayak(s) I've sold all of my pedal Kayaks aside from my 16ft Hobie Adventure and Mariner 12.5 Ok going back to your video (I'm only 2 min in!) 13:00 Aaaahhh! DO NOT PUSH THE PELICAN DRIVE THAT HARD! THEY BREAK! That's why i suggested the Hobie sprockets
I forgot to mention you can flip the catch fins around to go backwards. If I'm fishing a wind blown shoreline I simply flip the fins around and use them to keep my distance while casting towards the shore. In weeds... you need to flutter the fins One foot forward then just pulse the fins.
During the race between the Old Town and the Pelican, the Old Town is around 88lbs, while the pelican 57'ish, that makes a difference in performance for sure. I just purchase a Perception 11.5 Outlaw as my first kayak and think I made a mistake. It is as heavy as your Old Town and feels super sluggish. My son has the Pelican without the peddles and the kid glides over the water (granted he only weighs 100lbs to my 210lbs). I have an Old Town 120 in the mail hopefully I like it better.
You can tell when they’re racing they are trying to give the pelican a chance. I’ve got a pelican and I’m not super happy with it. Stability doesn’t seem very good. (I have the 10 ft though). And your legs burn like crap when you’re trying to keep speed! I mainly use it to bring along while hauling a camper so I think I’m gonna stick with it because it’s so much lighter. I just envy how easy and fast the sportsman pdl is as well as stability (I think he was generous on the comparison there). Hard to justify dropping 2500 though just for that.
I didn't watch the entire video, but I hope you were honest about the Pelican Hydryve. I'm on my 3rd one and hoping they warranty replace this 4th one. They are absolutely horrible and I hope you tell your audience that.
The biggest problem I have with pedal drives is that I am only 5’6” tall and struggle to get my seat close enough. When I use it I practically have to slouch way down to reach the pedals. It’s really a struggle for my wife who is only 5’ tall.
eh i feel like he's being nice, i mean it is top quality craftsmanships but with the scores I feel like you could've been more Simon in AGT lol, bring the hammer of justice! nonetheless this video helped me narrow it down to my top choice. PELICAN baby! cause pelicans hunts bass and I'm a basshunter haha
Just depends on the budget you have if you have 6 grand to spend on a kayak why wouldn't you just get a boat even 2500 for the Old Town is high I can buy a John boat and an outboard for that.
I think you should be comparing a new hobie and not a rental with a abused drive. If you center your pedals, the reverse cable works great. Neither one of my drives makes noise and you didn’t even mention kick up fins. Not a fair comparison at all
After having my OT for a year now, I'll NEVER have a kayak without instant reverse. I'm not going to drop my rod every time i need to adjust my position. OT sll the way.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I don't use a kayak I don't like kayaks I don't like anything that can rollover fall over and knock you out.... Back in 2020 Zach when I was married to my wife., We went out in her kayaks I'm not going to get into the details of it but I can tell you this much the thing rolled over on me and I fell out lost everything I even lost the new slingshot I just bought from you.. Actually come to think about it you might remember because I had to reorder another one and then you had to send me more bands for it ....
Three quite frankly honest I've never found a need to be fishing out of a boat... I mean if your ad on the bush and you're just surviving why would you need a boat to go fishing we could just fish from the shore line ... Before too much longer you'll want yourself a personal helicopter so you can get out to the really far places to fish LOL lol This Bushcraft stuff's got ridiculous it's gotten so out of hand to Sonny's Bushcraft anymore it's it's like running a business from your bedroom .....
I've used Hobies for about a decade. Really happy to see more competition because the price hikes have been insane!
I use the Hobie Pro Angler 14. It's big but with wheels easy to get into water. Went from Kittery Me all the way out to the Isles of Shoals In that Hobie.

I have OT PDL and love it. One feature you did not mention - OT Pedal drive floats!

Oldtown Pdl 120 sportsman here and absolutely love it
How much was the old town Pd 120

Awesome show thank you for sharing all the information on them. Have a great weekend.

@19:10 Never had a loud Hobie. It's possible if you over stroke it, or don't have the drive installed securely.
WoW! Man! That is one heck of a side by side review, love it!!! Major thumb up and new subscriber.
Have you tried the Wilderness Recon HD yet?
I love my old town 106. I lean a little into the turn which seems to help. Also if you have to take the drive out for some reason and accidently drop it in the water, the old town is designed to float.

What about Jackson? They have a great pedal drive system.
He repeatedly says they coat way more. That in itself tells you they will be out of alot of people's budgets.
the pelican sells a 110 and a 100 as well, and those are much cheaper.
LOL i am sure you can silicon glue the sensor to the inside of the kayak just make sure there is no bubbles in the glue and the sensor will see thru bottom if that don't work anymore then you can cut silicon with piano wire or stainless trace wire
Hi watching all ur episodes over here in Australia love the content keep it up
This is possibly the worst comparison I've every seen but I agree with you 100%.
This is the most bipolar thing I’ve ever seen
This may be the most accurate comment I have seen in a long damn time.
Stupid comment
I came to say the samething 😅

LOL just found out that we have a little bit of rain coming our way. Time to make a big batch oh musubi and turn on UA-cam lol
English???@johnnyharperscoutstable5386
Hey! Great comp! Question I got is: can one add a trolling motor and battery to any of them?
Great. Thank you so much just what I needed before I buy.
Can you test them when a boat comes zooming by
Many of us won''t pay 5-7 G for a kayak.
have you had any experience in a seastream 120 PDL only reason for me asking is i am looking at getting into kayak fishing

Is the 130 significantly more stabel than the 110? I wanna get the most stable one but also the lightest one. 😂
What about hammerhead?
Wait a sec!!! When did those docks get there and where's the how to video? 🧐👀🕷️👍
I went with the 3 waters big fish 120 great yak for the price
Loving the sunnies 😎
Do they come with the seat included?

How much is that old town probably over 2000 right?
Nice day out
Sweet, now compare them all to Native Watercrafts pedal drive!
🤗 I cannot be the only one who thought Zachary was fighting off a pelican while sailing on a Hobie cat. Silly me.
I didn't watch the entire video, but I hope you were honest about the Pelican Hydryve. I'm on my 3rd one and hoping they warranty replace this 4th one. They are absolutely horrible and I hope you tell your audience that.
The weed resistance test was notable.
Aren't you comparing, mercedes,Lexus and Ford?
Mercedes, Worthless and disposable after 100 k miles.
Lexus, Japanese quality that lasts 300k miles.
Ford, absolute garbage!

Please make more survival videos
In the ocean with kayak ?
With the sharks?!?
No thanks 😆 🤣 🤣
9:10 man over board!!
11:25 man overboard!!Lol
Damn whoever was driving the old town when they were racing have weak legs.
How does the Old Town gets a 15 for speed and the Pelican gets an 8 when you just beat the Old Town with the Plican?
Thank pelican for me, the weight is important for me
"on a scale from 1 to 10" sure sure, where did you get 15???
👏 👏 👏
Add submergibility to the list
The dealbreaker for me is the instant hands free reverse. Thats why i woud never buy a fin drive kayak.
@2216sammy well good for you.
and 20 to Old town because they pay you for the video !
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't use a kayak I don't like kayaks I don't like anything that can rollover fall over and knock you out....

the native would have won that.
Dude speed it up
hobie are the best kayak
warranty sucks since they got new owners and moved to Mexico
Overpriced junk
Second babbbbby 😂

I don't see any benefit in watching thgis video any longer... There's nothing to learn.
Are you serious? This was very informative. Maybe you weren’t listening….
Well, stop watching and go away.
Sea Eagle 390RL for the win!!!🛶
