Looking at how much older Navigators still go for today, I'll bet these things will turn 10-15 years old and still go for over $10,000 used if they have a good reliability history over time. If not... I'll gladly pick one up 10+ years used with 100k miles on it!
100k miles will be time for a new engine lol. These new high strung turbo engines manufacturers are shoving down our throats are ticking time bombs. 200k mile basic maintenance engines are a thing of the past. Not to mention 10k mile oil change intervals manufacturers are swearing by.
@@DaNiElLl430 Not as high strung as you may think. I have a 2010 Lincoln MKS with the 3.5L Ecoboost motor and during regular driving, even when fairly quickly overtaking other drivers on the highway, I rarely get it over 3000 RPM and the engine does not sound like it's working very hard at all to launch me past everyone on the road. By the way I'm still on the original motor and it's going very strong at 145,000 miles. In the Facebook group there are several of them surpassing 200k with no major issues. And as a person who works on my own car most of the time, I can honestly say it's not all that difficult to work on either. Only gripe I have is that the stupid water pump is driven off the timing chain. But yeah, the 3.5L in this Navigator is an even better refined motor than the one in my car, so I wouldn't knock it honestly.
10-15 year old navigators are in the junkyard/scrap yard. 2005-2010 Navigators are $3k-$8k all day on Craigslist and FB marketplace. You really have to be an idiot to buy a 5.4, or a 3.5EB thats 10-15 years old. Have fun getting to know your mechanic though.
@@bcatz454 You must be talking about heavily neglected pieces of shit Navigators. And I still don't know why you knock the 3.5 EB motor so hard, like I said, I have a first gen 3.5 Eco and it doesn't give me any more trouble than any other car would. Besides, for the most part I'm my own mechanic, and I've dealt with most of my car problems myself, hasn't been anywhere near as bad as you make it seem.
I lived in Scottsdale and had a black vehicle. As long as you don’t live on a dirt road (and there aren’t that many). It’s not much different than anywhere else. Give it a wash occasionally and you’re fine.
I had a Lincoln Navigator V8 and it was one of the best family hauler. It was fast, powerful and comfortable for a long drive to Las Vegas.

Just got a base 2021 escalade esv. Big upgrade from the 05 Yukon XL Denali but I know damn well it won't be as reliable. Got over 302k with hardly any issues at all since new, still has the original shock absorbers and bearings. Wish I could've ordered it with a basic 6.0 and a 4spd. I wish the navigator would've had the Ford 6spd and a 5.0 it's more reliable than my escalade, if it did I would've gotten it instead but both are kinda crap so might as well get the one that's newer.
@gunit 010 how is he not a good person? He made a statement based on observations that time and time again become true. Spinners havent been around for awhile now but drive though any lower income area and you will see hoopties with rims worth double the value of the car they are on, which probably has a monthly payment..
Loved that Case tractor in the BJ shots. Streamlined like it is ready for land speed record. I can see it now....screaming down the Salt Flats and taking its class at 35 mph.
And the other thing about that 3.5 V6 EcoBoost is that the water pump is NOT driven by the timing chains like the front wheel drive 3.5 and 3.7 engines were.
Hey there Wizards! So glad you guys got to come out to my town for Barret Jackson! Pretty sure you guys had a great time; maybe next time (sans C0v!d) you guys could have a "Meet and Greet" with fans somewhere? We DO have beautiful sunsets and lots of dust however you would have no problem owning a black car here. I own TWO black cars; sure, dust gets on the vehicle but we have a gajillion car washes around here and they are relatively cheap especially if you buy an unlimited car wash pass which are less than $20/month.
No problems with mice my problems have been squirrels. I have lifted the hood of my car and found a half eaten piece of a pizza crust sitting on the battery.
I had squirrels chew through the wiring for my windshield wipers on my old Suburban. Nothing else, just those wires. Replaced the wires and within a week or two they chewed the same wires again!
Wizard you should have done that whole video on that case 400 orchard it's one of the most beautiful tractors in the world and I'm sure most people don't know why it has fenders like that
I used to own a 07 Monte Carlo SS. It too came from AZ. Enjoyed the car for about a year until the car wasn’t running on all 8 cylinders one day. Come to realize a mouse had chewed the wiring harness causing 8K in damages according to my local Chevy dealer.
I have family in Phoenix have have been going to Barrett-Jackson for the big January auction for the last 10 years. I was just to the right of the block when the very first of the new Toyota Supra went for $2.5m a couple years ago and just this past January when the very first production C8 Corvette hammered for over $3m (to Mr Chevrolet himself, Rick Hendrick). Actually, the 2nd-3rd week of January is auction week in Scottsdale. In normal times, that week is HUGE for the city. Not only Barrett-Jackson but there's also Gooding and Co, and Russo and Steele. The past auction you and Hoovie were at was their first fall auction mainly to kind of jumpstart things since covid shut everything down. You probably noticed they removed the bleachers from the arena, and only registered bidders are allowed on the premises. That's probably going to be the policy for this January which will mean the first time for me missing it in 10 years :( There is nothing like the Barrett-Jackson auction on Super Saturday (when times are normal of course)!! When all the high dollar, exquisite classics and resto-mods go up on the block and end up at 6 and 7 figures, and guys with more money than they know what to do with are throwing down $50,000 increments at each other like throwing water balloons, and the arena is packed shoulder to shoulder, and every star in the automotive world or star who loves cars is standing right next to you (I was right next to Brad Paisley one time and didn't even know it till someone mentioned it to me after we walked away). Barrett-Jackson is my Disney World. When times are normal I'm in Phoenix for a couple weeks and go almost every day the show is open, and never miss Friday night or Super Saturday.
Nice, but overpriced cars, and like you said, too many people with more money than brains driving up prices. Good place for a "car show", bad place to buy a car.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Come about 4:00 on Super Saturday you have millionaires who’ve been throwing back SoCo’s and Cokes all day who loose track of their senses and just let it rip and get caught up in everything. Yes serious car buyers don’t buy from there unless they have something they really want. It’s more about the fun and excitement. Nothing wrong with that if you can afford it.
It’s fun reading these comments by coming back to this video is 2023. These days, that price tag is very reasonable. There are optioned out or specialized expeditions going for more than this one in 2020.
You can get a 2020 Expedition XLT 4WD with sunroof, navigation, rear captain chairs, for $50,000, $15,000 off MSRP at Auto Nation Katy Ford near Houston.
James R Peet I agree with but if you look around at the prices of everything Americans have sort of...kinda, lost their value perspective. I think this is going to get worst. I don’t know if it’s us doing it, us and the kids, or the kids. They’re getting people to buy tiny homes and exploding the value of THE home. It’s creeping into cars too, I’ve been chasing a 2019 XTS Platinum, they listed one at over $59K. We all know the resell on a Caddy too including them.
Wizard, you should do a video on how to diagnose which fluid is which under a car. Tasting notes or something would be helpful. Once dirt gets onto your chemical, they are hard to identify visually!
N64 shirt ftw! For real nostalgia. 4 player action with friends, Smash bros, MarioKart, Goldeneye, Mario Party etc back in the day... Sigh. In fact, an N64 would be nice in the back of one of these modern SUV's or Minivans!, on the rear TV, with the 4 people in the back.. NINTENDO, where is that N64 MINI?!?
I got an 5.4L3V Expedition with the upgraded top end (one-piece plugs, stronger VVT solenoids, durable tensioners) and at 200K miles is still pulling strong. I use premium synthetic and Motorcraft oil filters with religiously followed oil changes. Yes, at 200+K I keep my ears open for tired stamped and needle bearing roller followers. Yes, the Navigator is essentially an Expedition with fancier plastic and a few 'snowflakes.' At 250K-300K, I may find a mechanic who can replace the roller followers, and do a full cam phaser-timing chain-oil pump job . . . for $3000? The SUV will only be worth $7000 by then, but it is a very nice vehicle.
My neck of the woods! You'll see a lot of white and silver autos out here. Made the mistake of buying a black on black car when I first moved here and wow, it was hot! No snakes in Oct, they usual hibernate during the chiller months...
Pack rats are a problem in Arizona. They do eat wiring, hoses, etc. A lot of people will leave their hoods open at night or put lights under the vehicle to help keep them from getting into the engine compartment. Well sealed garages are a must.
Great video. Gads! That is more than the house and new car that I bought in 1994 put together! And think of money that could go to one's retirement, goes instead to a piece of metal and rubber. I do suppose that one could be buried in it when the time comes.
Hey Wizard, this truck is probably over 100k, I work at ford and most of these are 102-105 it’s rare you see them in the 80, 90s at minimum. those are the higher horsepower exoboosts too. Black label which I think this is starts at 98,000.
I was just there a couple months ago! Those tall cacti you're standing next to are pretty cool and only grow at the altitude in scottsdale, phoenix, etc.
I thought that it was pretty nice today in Kansas. Judy actually said "I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore". You could rent a dwarf to drive you around Arizona.
"Don't leave too soon. Photos from October 2020 Barrett Jackson coming..." Always thought it would be fun to go to one of these. Like a car show where all the cars are for sale. As expected, the parking lot is a car show all on it's own. But $76,000 for that Lincoln? Yeah, no. Hoovies van for $7,600? Oh yeah! VT247
I finally had to tap out on new cars, last one was 17 titan diamond Ed, $63,000=1017 month x 84. After 6 months I thought this crazy sold it. Now I drive a 04 expedition with 160,000 miles. Wizard was 100% right when he said it’s nice, but it’s not $80,000 nice.
Thanks for the tour of this new Navigator. The real question is ... is it worth the premium over a Platinum Edition of the Expedition? Fully loaded, they ain’t cheap! Thanks for the video. .
Nice honest review. Scotty says don't get the EcoBoost! And now we know why Ford couldn't handle Land Rover/Jag when it owned them...they wanted to cheep them down.
The Expedition is on a F-150 chassis. The larger version is the Excursion. Which is also similar to the Navigator if I’m not mistaken. A Land Rover is another $20K and has a horrible repair record. If it’s British, it’s garbage.
For about the same price you could have snagged the top of the line ram brother, a bit more but the interior is super nice if that's what your worried about
I don't really like the console in the 2nd row. I think having separate captains chairs with a gap in between is really handly for ingress/access from the 3rd row. Or easily loading long items with the 3rd row removed.
Nice video, glad to see you get out of the shop. Magic Mike is hosting a demolition derby at the shop? Hope you and yours are well - keep your mask on! Expedition based on F150? Navigator vs Escalade? Imagine if Ford had decked out an Excursion.
It is now the last Thursday of March 2021. The Car Mom (Kelly Stumpe) just did a video to review the 2021 Ford Expedition yesterday. It is identical to this 2020 Lincoln Navigator, but the 2021 Expedition was the regular wheelbase. The wheelbase of the 2020 Navigator was extended, when the Car Wizard went to Barrett Jackson in Arizona last fall. Anyway, the Car Wizard will expect to have the first buy this, not that video of 2021 (all-new one) this afternoon, on Saturday or after Easter. I am leaning towards Mazda, because the newer ones are highly recommended to buy, because they have no CVT transmission, the engines have Skyactiv technology and they are built better, same with the newer Mitsubishi's (the Car Wizard will also do Mitsubishi Motors for buy this, not that in the next video by late April/early May). Some of the older Mazda's are not recommended to buy, because they have a lot of electrical problems, mechanical problems and so forth. The ones to buy are any Mazda 3 from 2004 to 2018, 2017 and newer CX-5 (non-turbo or turbocharged), 2014 to 2018 Mazda 6 and any Mazda 5 from 2006 to 2015. The ones not to buy are any Mazda CX-7 from 2007 to 2012, any Protege from 1999 to 2001 (the 2002 and 2003 models are the only exception), any MPV (all model years), any Tribute (all model years) (identical to the older Ford Escape) and the first-generation CX-9 from 2007 to 2015 (due to the water pump issue on the newer Ford V6 engine's), because it is the FWD configuration and they have some problems, similar to the CX-7 (The 2016 and newer CX-9 is still a buy). Thank you very much and I hope the Car Wizard will have a lot more videos headed our way.

I would honestly prefer they put a 5.0 coyote in there, something lazier with less high strung performance. My opinion, that engine will not last as long due to the effort it uses getting the vehicle to move. Keep the V6 for the smaller Lincoln SUVs. Other than that, it's an absolutely beautiful SUV
I think because of it being a rental with people abusing it, its probably creaky like that. Not excusing it at all, but this is not like the grandma or soccer mom down the street that uses it normally. I've been inside of a used one and its very put together nice and not loose like that. Also, Range Rover doesn't have the reliability that the Navigator has. I would choose this over a Range anyday. Just my opinion.
I have to question your comment on a Range Rover blowing the doors off the navigator. Yes it will in repair costs and lack of reliability along with depreciation curve.
The durability on the eco-boost engines is quite poor from my experiences I’ve seen. I have seen several raptors with the 3.5 eco boost need whole engine replacements at less than 40,000 miles turbos go out in 15,000 miles as well. The 3 cylinder economist in the escapes are bad as well. The 2.7 v6 eco boost are better but they still have issues. The 2.3 I4 eco boost in the mustang is probably the best of the pack but they still have turbo issues early in life.
@@max7768 do they exist yes but they are still plagued with issues. Just because a Range Rover has 200,000 miles doesn’t mean all Range Rovers are reliable. Same goes for the ecoboost engines.

Amazing how he said “for $20k more I could get a Range Rover”. Interesting as $20k more would have maxed out the trim level of that Navigator and removed a lot of expedition feel in it. Try comparing apples to apples. Also reliability and repair bills on range rovers are where value in them drop exponentially. Remember with a Lincoln you get Ford priced repair bills and that is what’s amazing about them.
Please keep reviewing the new lincolns! You'll be surprised how far lincoln has come in the last 5 years! I just test drove a corsair, beautiful suv inside and out. Id love to trade in my Jaguar for a newer Navigator!

In 4 years it'll be Rollin down the hood with spinning rims.
Sad, but that is so true.
@gunit 010 how is he not a good person? He made a statement based on observations that time and time again become true. Spinners havent been around for awhile now but drive though any lower income area and you will see hoopties with rims worth double the value of the car they are on, which probably has a monthly payment..
Going to air out some cribs 😀
probably on a roll back.
@gunit 010
Triggered snowflake?
Loved that Case tractor in the BJ shots. Streamlined like it is ready for land speed record. I can see it now....screaming down the Salt Flats and taking its class at 35 mph.
I've a funny feeling that it might be just a wee bit faster than that. 😁 Cool machine though - unique.
And the other thing about that 3.5 V6 EcoBoost is that the water pump is NOT driven by the timing chains like the front wheel drive 3.5 and 3.7 engines were.
Agreed
Ooh snap. That explains the piece of bread I found on my coolant reservoir. I had been scratching my head over that.
Squirrels are worse then mice
Yeah a mice chewed a hole in the cloth hood liner on my e55 AMG
That's probably going to be the policy for this January which will mean the first time for me missing it in 10 years :(
There is nothing like the Barrett-Jackson auction on Super Saturday (when times are normal of course)!!
Wait a year ... $ 20K depreciation
Not really. They've been holding their value very well. Its the nicest full size suv that isn't 200k. People love them.

I agree with but if you look around at the prices of everything
Americans have sort of...kinda, lost their value perspective.
I think this is going to get worst.
I don’t know if it’s us doing it, us and the kids, or the kids.
They’re getting people to buy tiny homes and exploding the
value of THE home. It’s creeping into cars too, I’ve been
chasing a 2019 XTS Platinum, they listed one at over $59K.
I love all the Retro Gaming shirts, cross genre car/retro game fan. We are the same age as well, but I have all my hair.
Yes, the Navigator is essentially an Expedition with fancier plastic and a few 'snowflakes.'
At 250K-300K, I may find a mechanic who can replace the roller followers, and do a full cam phaser-timing chain-oil pump job . . .
I've rented an Expedition twice for family vacations and loved them. It's a great SUV.
Doug is out of a job. Wizard’s review is calm and with a peaceful voice unlike DeMuro

LETS PUT A V6 IN A 4 TON CAR AND SEE HOW FAST IT'LL BLOW UP
Planned obsolescence. Thats all...and we as consumers unfortunately promote it.
Idk why but this made me laugh really hard
My buddy had a 67 Road Runner, blue, two door post, dog dish hub caps and a taxi bench front seat back in the day! We all thought is was so HOT!
Good to see you two out of the shop enjoy.
It's a POS if I'm going to spend that kind of money I would buy a Toyota Land cruiser.
same
You could probably get the Lexus version for that money in the US would be infinitely better than this thing.
This vehicle is all about status. The appearance of status.
lmao wouldnt spend 80k on a toyota landcruiser
J Maxey Lincoln’s are no status symbol 😂 they’re junk anyway
You were in my back yard! If that was your first Barrett, the non Covid version is waaay better, but a lot more crowded.
THIS! Is Ford Expedition with the chrome package!
What Lincoln SUVs have always been since day one with a 30k dress up premium
@@ES-wn6fx this one is so far from its brother, in performance and technology its insane
You are a female with an oversized click.
Tell me more?
Honestly if you watch Doug DeMuro’s video on it, it’s quite a bit more impressive than that
"Don't leave too soon.
Land rover was trash then and they're trash now.
"Range Rover quality"? Oh man, that makes me laugh.
The Expedition is on a F-150 chassis. The larger version is the Excursion. Which is also similar to the Navigator if I’m not mistaken. A Land Rover is another $20K and has a horrible repair record. If it’s British, it’s garbage.
For about the same price you could have snagged the top of the line ram brother, a bit more but the interior is super nice if that's what your worried about
Rent for a day, week yes. Buy new no way. Too much depreciation. Roughly 60% in five years or less not to mention the repairs.
Is the 3.5 Ecoboost reliable over the years? A lot prefer the simple V8 in F150s. I guess if you’re a mechanic you would love the work they create

I really want the wizard to read an audio book or something. Love how calm he is.
Wizard blew up must faster than I anticipated. Happy for him.
The 3.5 kicks ass in towing too.
I have to question your comment on a Range Rover blowing the doors off the navigator. Yes it will in repair costs and lack of reliability along with depreciation curve.
I wonder in general the durability of all the turbo engines.
That Lincoln is what a Mercury should have been.
@@ziggi4800 As someone that is in market for a Bronco, hopefully they hold up better.

I know there's nothing special on them and they are just regular SUVs. But in case there is anything to talk about or educate us vehicle lovers.
This V6 is working so hard it will be toast in less than 100K miles.
Definitely
We must be on the cusp of a massive recession. Previously people would be like, "cool car bro" but are now calling out the ridiculous conspicuous consumption and poor value planned obsolescence of a brand new SUV
I really like the back seat setup! Very thoughtful! I hope, other manufacturer will follow. I would LOVE to see this in a Highlander!
Watch TFL video about drag race GMC yukon and Navigator, they had new Navigator, and pointed out the same dash problems. Older Navigators have better interrior quality though

That skyline try coming to Iceland when this covid is over that will blow you mind. The repair cost of Lincoln vs Range
@Charles White Iceland is not that cold. Coldest day ever in Iceland was -22.0 °F...
@Charles White Its the golf-stream that keep us warmer then country that are at same latitude. But we use warm water to heat up our houses. Denmark was country that had power over us. Iceland officially remained neutral throughout World War II. However, the British invaded Iceland on 10 May 1940. On 7 July 1941, the defence of Iceland was transferred from Britain to the United State. Beginning on 20 May 1944, Icelanders voted in a four-day plebiscite on whether to terminate the personal union with the King of Denmark and establish a republic. ... Iceland became an independent republic on 17 June 1944.
Wizard. I did an oil change on my car and didn’t have a drain plug gasket so I traced the old one on a new differential gasket cut it out and used that. Is that going to hold with the heat of the engine? I can’t go anywhere even though i tested negative for COVID but still have to quarantine 14 days. I did order a new drain plug with gasket and can replace once they arrive and I can leave the house. It’s my 3rd car so I have other vehicles and don’t have to drive it.

You cant judge the build quality based on a rental car that has been ragged out structurally in the interior by customers. The black label Lincoln's do feel alot different from their Ford underpinnings. Keep in mind the starting price for this generation expedition is 50k, not adjusted for inflation
I have to say the top of the line addition that I tried was absolutely incredible - I’m not sure if the model you guys had was fully specked out. Build quality definitely not perfect
