@@mikelarsen5836...i think its Drax as well, given how he lifted the police car during him & Mantis going to Earth in that Christmas special feature short film.
@@McMahonHaterThank God they got these movies out before they went completely woke. Spoiler Alert: They went a tad bit woke Captain Marvel and End. But not so bad as making it unwatchable, like She-Hulk.
@@frankiek2269 The writing was on the wall with Civil War when they pulled that Feminist crap on the "River of Truth" speech. But yeah, at least they didn't lose it until after End Game (the 2 Spider-Man flick are good too, but that's Sony).
I didn't even realize until your video that the narrative function of the 26-year time jump is to illustrate the change in Peter from standing up for defenseless animals to kicking them in the next scene, which I now realize gives his line toward the end more weight, "Life is giving us a chance to give a shit" because that's his arc! He goes from caring about life to losing his mom to not caring about anything to meeting the other Guardians and finally growing to care about life again. Like wow, I love James Gunn's approach to storytelling! Nine years since I first saw this movie and I'm still finding new artistry in it!
Just to clarify the Collector was not given the Teseract by Thor’s buddies. They gave him the Eether (the red fluid stuff). The Teseract is still being kept on Asgard. And yeah, the Collector still has the Eether. Must have kept it somewhere off site.
Sean Gunn, who played Kirk on Gilmore Girls and plays Kraglin in this movie, also does all the motion capture for Rocket. Incidently, he is the brother of James Gunn, who wrote and directed this.
She already has a smile that would bring down the side of a mountain & she's wearing yellow... Can she be any brighter? ❤❤ Love her reactions. She's hands down my favorite. Can't wait for her reactions for the rest of the Marvel movies.
As a 55 year old man who saw this 3 times in the theatre it reminded me of when I saw Star Wars as a kid. Even now I teared up at all the mother / son stuff. The idea that he wants to go by Starlord because it was his mom’s pet name for him. Also loved Groot’s reaction after killing all those guys - like a dog that just got done shaking a squirrel to death.
I'm about the same age as you and I felt EXACTLY the same after seeing Guardians of the Galaxy in the theater the first time. "I haven't had that much fun watching a movie since I saw Star Wars for the first time when I was 10 years old!"
As someone who loves his mother very much, the beginning gets me watery eyed every time. I barely knew about the team, but even though I think this adaptation is different than the comics, I still feel that this is amazing. "We are Groot" gets me bawling every time as well. On top of it all, this is just a fun film to watch and a great addition to the MCU plus the soundtrack is awesome.
You're right, Gamora, Drax, and Rocket spread the power of the stone through themselves when they touched Quill at the climax. The Collector explains that a group of people were able to do the same thing at some earlier point in history when he tells them about the stones, but also points out that those people could only control the power for a finite amount of time, so presumably these guys also couldn't have used it indefinitely.
I also like to think that they were standing in Groot who had split into a thousand pieces and that that distribution probably also helped take all the energy and not die from it.
Jax, the Asgardians didn't give the Collector the Tesseract (aka the Space Stone). They gave him the Reality Stone (aka the Aether). The Tesseract is still in Asgard's possession.
@@BryanFritchieYeah coz they believed that keeping 2 infinity stones together in Asgard would be dangerous!😂 Meanwhile during 60s Earth with Space, Reality and Time stone in just one planet!
@@randycrawford1132 She has almost put it together on her own, but the movies up to this point have not confirmed what the Tesseract or Aether are. Lots of comics readers didn't consider it a spoiler because they were familiar with the cosmic cube and other forms of the Stones, but the MCU technically doesn't reveal it until later.
@@jorge943 They did confirm that the Tesseract and the Aether are both infinity stones when it is mentioned in the Thor the Dark World end credit scene that it isn't wise to keep two infinity stones together. It also shows them both when the collector is giving his speech in this movie.
37:29 Yes When the Collector was explaining the lore about the Infinity Stones, he did mention a group that had tried to channel the power through themselves but were only able to do so for a brief moment before being destroyed by it
I can never get enough of this woman's voice. Either she's a professional VA or she's the most blessed woman on the planet, because her voice is ABSOLUTELY warm, gilded silk
Zoe Saldana (Gamora) is a very good actress. In addition to the MCU she also plays Neytiri in the Avatar movies, and Lt Uhura in the recent Star Trek Movies.
There are a total of 6 Infinity Stones. The Blue Stone was introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger (Space Stone). The Red Stone that was in Thor: The Dark World (Reality Stone). And now u just been introduced to the Purple Stone (Power Stone) in Guardians. You will be introduced to more of the infinity stones later on down the line.
@@chand911it's probably for the best that they didn't stick to the source material when it came to Star-Lord since the comics version was a deranged psychopath. I mean, his initial appearance involved him murdering a bunch of innocent people so he could steal a spaceship in order to murder an entire race of aliens.
Odin also explained the Infinity Stones in The Dark World. The Infinity Stones that have been confirmed at this point in the MCU are the Tesseract, the Aether, and the Orb. I'm leaving this part vague to avoid spoilers. Each of them does have a different purpose, but they are all extremely powerful
@@reactswithjax The Orb is the Power Stone which is why it can level a planet but it's not at all the purpose of the stone, it all depends on who uses it.
The "Pushing Daisies" image at 7:35 made my whole week. Also, if you're ever about to be exposed to the vacuum of space you do NOT want to hold your breath. You should in fact try to expel as much air from your lungs first as possible (though the extra time it buys you is still measured in seconds...)
This is my favorite Marvel movie. I love the characters, the soundtrack, the emotion, the action, and most importantly, the humor. It's hits all of the notes. Just like Die Hard.
There are some movies that are almost perfect in nearly every way. This is one of my top favorite films. And so is Die Hard, good choice! Another movie with great action and humor with very high stakes. 👍
Don’t worry. You’ll be getting MUCH more familiar with the Infinity stones and why people want them. Also the final end scene was an Easter egg for Marvel fans. The talking duck was Howard the Duck. A well loved mainly comedic Marvel character.
31:45 Jax, Groot's language is that.. Groot language is actually 3 or 4 syllables. But those who know language, they can still understand what Groot is saying. Like Rocket can understand him. Peter quill should be able to understand him as well, given he has Universal Translator imbedded in his neck. (The info screen in the prison when they were locked up showed all the information about them including the chip in the neck)
The dog in the end is a real comic book character created by Stan Lee, his name is Cosmo the space dog. This is one of my favorite movies as well as the second one. Glad you enjoyed it!
To follow up on a couple of your thoughts. You were technically introduced to the Term "Infinity Stones" at the end of Thor: The Dark World. Volstagg says something like: "The Tesseract is already on Asgard. It's not wise to keep two Infinity Stones so close together" (When they met up with The Collector (which he follows up saying "1 down; 5 to go.") So that is at least 3 you are aware of and others maybe. 👀 Each has a name and power. Each power is different. The Orb is the Power Stone (so gives you incredible power), which is why it can "level a planet" the others don't have the same power, but are all Powerful. Since you can, through this logic, puzzle together that the Tesseract is also a Stone...its powers have gone from vague in Captain America: The First Avenger, to a bit more well-defined in The Avengers. If unclear, I'll just leave it at: The Tesseract was used to open a portal to let Loki in, and eventually to open a portal to let the Chitauri army in.
Actually... I really like that. Nice way to say what you wanted without being even a bit spoilery. *High Five* I wish everyone else in this comment section could follow your example, lol.
The guy you know from Gilmore Girls, Sean Gunn, is the brother of this movie's director James Gunn =) Sean also did the motion capture for Rocket. The Infinity Stones have different powers, but you'll learn along the way ;)
Golly! They took these oddball misfit characters and made them beloved household names! All three of the Guardians movies (as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, haha) have all gotten me to cry; they build such strong relationships, it's so well done.
Thank you again for sharing this journey. This was the movie I was least interested in seeing but I ended up loving it. The actors all have excellent chemistry and work really well together. The comedy is so perfectly timed. I’m really glad you enjoyed this one and can’t wait to see the rest of these with you. As always, thank you!
This movie was so different than any of the other MCU movies, but the chemistry and comedy really did make it work. I'm really looking forward to seeing the next one! Thanks for watching!! ❤️
@@reactswithjax It is always my pleasure to watch your reactions. I’m looking forward to watching the How To Train Your Dragon ones as well but I need to watch the whole movies first. My kids have been trying to get me to watch them so I guess it’s time!
The M.C.U. is, in general, amazing, but this is the best individual franchise in the whole awesome bunch. Hilarious comedy, heart-breaking drama, a stacked cast, and a brilliant soundtrack. Great reaction as always, Jax. Cheers and Happy Weekend from Canada. 🥃👍✌❤
I first saw Lee Pace(Ronan) in the two seasons of the fantasy series, "Pushing Daisies," along with Anna Friel, Chi McBride, Kristen Chenowith, Ellen Green, ans Swoozie Kurtz. It is one of my favorite series.
Jax, your reactions are the best! You’re gorgeous, funny (the inserts and editing is also hilarious), you ask all the right questions & you show an appreciated amount of enthusiasm for content I love. My head canon, (based on what I understand about the comics and following movies), is that Quill, Gamora, Drax and Rocket were able to hold/wield the Power Stone, because all 4 of them are genetically enhanced versions of each of their species. As Nova Prime said to Peter, his biological father is something ancient and unknown.
Hi! Thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoyed this reaction. As for the guardians being able to hold the stone, your explanation makes sense. I'm really interested in learning who Peter's dad is now!
16:36 "They need to start working with the Avengers." They basically are the Avengers. There's a sneaky leather-clad female assassin, a wise-cracking tech genius, a human leader from a different place and time, a hulking big guy who's basically indestructible and can only say one thing, and a big strong alien guy who doesn't understand Earth customs and expressions. They're basically the Space Avengers.
This was one of the best theatre going experiences I ever had. I’m really glad you’ve gotten to see this film, as in that the Guardians are the heart of the MCU and over the next several entries you become really attached to them (Vol. 3 really is one of the best MCU films ever). I remember my heart feeling so full after watching this back in 2014. And yes… they’ll be teaming up with the Avengers in the future. 😄
This movie still remains to be one my favorite movies in the entire MCU franchise. Possibly just movie in general. It introduced me to my favorite character being Rocket and my favorite found family.
Your reactions are the best and your attention to detail is fantastic! You pick up on so much stuff that many people miss first time through these films. Rest assured your questions will be answered. As you said, you’re in the heart of it now and things are starting to converge a bit. But where this all goes…wow.
Jax, Jax, Jax.. .I always click on "like" before I even watch your videos, because you're one of my absolute favorites. But tonight, you went to platinum level: you used the "flesh wound" clip from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," my favorite movie!! 😁 A++ for you on this one! Isn't this movie fantastic?! The entire trilogy is amazing, with humor and action and quirkiness and so, so much heart. I can't wait for your reactions to the other two movies! (And, of course, all your other reactions.) Keep on being one of the best channels on the interwebs!!
THANK YOU! I so happy you liked this so much!! The Monty Python flesh wound clip was so perfect for that moment 😍 This movie really was fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing the next one and, hopefully, getting some of my questions answered. ❤️
The Guardians movies are probably my favorite franchise in the MCU. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that the story genuinely only gets better as you see its sequels. Great reaction.
Oh yeah, inserting Ryan George references makes everything super easy, barely an inconvenience! Also, have to say I love the mini jam out dance session you had during the intro. The music in these movies is as well chosen as the cast.
Wow, that was so much fun! First thing I want to say is *Thank You* for saying right up front that you had already seen this movie. Love your honesty as much as I love your reactions. Seeing as it was 10+ years ago I am not surprised that you didn't remember much of it. While this movie stands great on its own, it is even better when you have the context of the previous nine MCU films that have paved the way and teased the existence of the Infinity Stones. (wow, you are into the double digits!) I am glad you liked Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser. I thought he played the role well and made a decent enemy, although many people treat him as one of the more forgettable villains of the MCU. It was a good job and he carried weight to his menace. One of the other things I always praise this movie for: *This* is the way you introduce an entire team of characters and get the audience to love them. There have been other superhero films that tried to bring together a big cast and failed to pull it off to this degree. This had great humor that hit every note, as well as a soundtrack that was amazing. If you can immerse yourself into the movie it is one of the most fun movies I have ever watched. The greatest movie of all time? Not by a long shot, but it sure was fun.
And fired the perfect Superman actor right of the bet while backing a nutjob criminal and child molester... great start! Not to mention the boring press conference where he announced a bunch of movies with characters I never heared of...
Fantastic review, Jacqueline! I love how your enthusiasm as a Marvel fan shines through in your reactions to "Guardians of the Galaxy." It's great to see you appreciate the engaging plot, memorable characters, and the clever humor that sets this film apart. Your comparisons to Jack Sparrow and the connections you found for "Gilmore Girls" fans add a unique perspective. I agree that the balance between darker elements and heartwarming moments is commendable, and the chemistry between the characters is a standout. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to read more of your insightful reviews!
Wonderful reactions from Jax, that made it seem as if she had never seen this film before! :) And I'm sure the Guardians of the Galaxy film was in this reaction video, but I have to admit that I found myself captivated by Jax and her beautiful eyes, gorgeous smile and wonderful laugh!
i dont know how many times i cried watching the climax. i love you watch your reactions because your smile are the sweetest. But this movie made me laugh and cry so hard in the cinema years ago. i cant wait for you to react to the Vol.2. love your videos. big hugs.
"Does he have to hold his breath?" Nope. Holding air in your lungs in a vacuum is not what you want to do. You have to exhale, and then, well, pray. Another excellent reaction. You're a joy to watch!
Yes, that is Kirk from Gilmore Girls. He's Sean Gunn, and he's actually the director's (James Gunn) brother. And a Walkman IS a casette player. They're the same thing. The Sony Walkman was the most common form of portable casette player, so all portable casette players came to be referred to as walkmans (walkmen?).
10:54 Excellent cut-away. 24:31 And another. 😂 (They were all good, but those two were hilarious). 13:02 Given the setting and what he said, he's really more of a prison rapist than a bully. Fun Fact: Voiced by the great Nathan Fillion. 👍 21:48 "Pelvic Sorcery" is one of the greatest turns-of-phrase in linguistic history. 🤣 23:01 We love The Collector, but he's definitely evil. It's complicated. 🤔 31:33 What is Groot? We are Groot. 🥰 35:31 And again... 😢
32:58 There are a total of 6 infinity stones and each control an essential aspect of the universe. I can tell you now those aspects are Space, Mind, Power, Reality, Time, and Soul. Each are a different color and each have different effects/capabilities. The colors are Red, Blue, Purple, Yellow, Orange, and Green. Its hard to find them considering their age, the size of the universe, and the size of the stones themselves. For example, the planet of Morag we saw at the beginning of the movie where Peter found the Orb was a tidal planet almost entirely covered by water and that portion of the planet is underwater for 300 years at a time until tides recede for 1 rotation (1 'day'). Talk about timing! We learned in Thor The Dark World that the Aether is one of the Infinity Stones and although it can take the form of a stone it is usually in a fluidic form and it is the Reality stone (Red). We know that the Tesseract is a stone and we can sort of guess its the Space stone because of its ability to open portals and transport people/things (Blue). We see in this movie the purple stone and we can guess its the Power stone considering.....well, the immense power it grants the wielder. I walso want to point out the Power stone is the only one with the requirement that the wielder is inherently powerful enough to withstand the stone to properly wield it. When you're weak like the pink slave girl you just....explode. When you're powerful like Ronan or Thanos you're fine. Aside from that nothing else is 100% confirmed by where you are in the MCU but yes Thanos is the big bad guy through all of this and the first 23 MCU movies are collectively known as the Infinity Saga. We can also tease you and say there is a 4th infinity stone you have seen in action and learned of but there is a more proper movie for you to realize it coming soon....
Another great I guess re-reaction. Next up is Avengers Age of Ultron. Dont let anyone tell you its lesser. It's a fantastic movie, filled with heart and humor and action. It's a great movie, you'll love it, bring tissues.
So to give you answers to some of your questions. Groot is a Flora colossus from Planet X, the capital of the branch worlds. The Infinity Stones are the remnants of six singularities that existed before the Big Bang, which were compressed into Stones by cosmic entities after the universe began and which were dispersed throughout the cosmos. They have different abilities. The Tesseract is the Space Stone; Teleport to places instantaneously, Loki's scepter Mind Stone; Control minds, Aether that appeared in Thor the dark wold is the Reality Stone; Alter reality, The Orb that appeared in this movie is the Power Stone; Manipulate energy; increased strength, and the two that have not yet appeared are the Time Stone; Control and manipulate time and Soul Stone; Control souls. Together they are extremely powerful. Hope this is helpful 😋
Ronan suit make him strong, Drax is stronger than captain marvel and here Ronan is playing with him, so I think it was some disney magic again, for the audience, but yea Ronan have exoskeleton suit that makes him much stronger than normal Kree
Guardians of the Galaxy is a really good movie and I love how different it is from all the previous ones. More colors, a little different humor. Perhaps this is the picture that brought something more like comics. And I'm waiting for your reaction to the following films, in particular Doctor Strange and civil var, I really want to see, I think you will really like them. I hope you don’t spoil anything in the comments, because it will really make the viewing not so intriguing and exciting, so I hope you have moderation! :)
To clarify: just about every single storyline and every single interpretation of a character in the MCU is based directly or indirectly on something a writer has done in the comics. Comics vary greatly in tone and genre - they have to, considering Marvel Comics alone has to publish around 50 different books a month, every single month, for generations - and if anything, the MCU depiction of this version of the Guardians is good bit more comedic than they were in their comic (the team originally banded together in the middle of an intergalactic war).
@@Melancthon7332 yes, I understand, I know that comics are very different from each other, just PERSONALLY I have exactly the guardians of the galaxy with them that are most associated
I believe Terra is the Latin word for Earth or Land. It’s the Root of words like Terrestrial or Terrain, territory, etc.. Great top! Yellow is a nice color on you, it compliments your hair, which also, your hair looks great too btw! I get the feeling you’re right around the same age as me, cause you make a lot of references I totally get, and that doesn’t always happen, I was born May 31, 86’, class of 04’ am I close???
Fun fact, the actress that plays Peter’s mom was in Captain America First Avenger, she play the girl that kisses Steve in one scene. So, technically Steve could be Star Lord’s granddaddy 😆.
Hey, Jacqueline! You don't have to wait to find out what happens next! According to director James Gunn and Kevin Feige, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" occurs just MONTHS LATER in 2014 before "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015! You have the option of seeing it next WITHOUT SPOILING anything that comes after. Alternatively, you can see it five movies down the road by following release order. Either way works. It's up to you!
What should have been an outtake stayed in the film. At 22:58 Chris Pratt actually fumbled the orb and recovered. The accident fit in perfectly with the character and situation, so it wasn’t replaced. Instead, they added the metallic thump of it hitting the floor.
I’m really looking forward to her ‘Captain America: Civil War’ reaction. Most reactors at least drop hints as to whether they’ll be Team Cap or Team Iron Man, but Jacqueline remains an absolute mystery. It’ll *definitely* be a total surprise.
I don't know why no one ever talks about it but I feel bad for Peter's grandparents. They lose their daughter and grandson only minutes apart and are never mentioned again. We can only imagine that they probably searched for Peter for the rest of their lives and never knew what happened to him. Every time I watch this I think about it. 😪
Yeah that is pretty sad. Grandfather probably felt terrible the rest of his life for leaving the little sobbing boy all alone in a hallway, never to be seen again.
As with so much of the MCU, the scattering of seeds that bear fruit, beyond Peter, in future movies is an endlessly re-watchable joy of this excellent installment.
Hi there, Jax! I'm a relative newcomer to your channel and I am absolutely loving your MCU journey. Anytime I see anyone reacting to the epic Infinity Saga for the first time, I just love seeing their reactions, yourself included! I adore seeing you have so much fun. 😊
Another good one, Jax! You're moving right along in the MCU, and I'm glad you enjoyed this sleeper hit for Marvel. You'll learn more about the Infinity Stones as we move along in the story. For now, I'll explain a bit about the Collector. In the comics, he's one member of a group of ancient beings called the Elders of the Universe. Each is the last surviving member of his own species, and is capable of living practically forever. Since they possess eternal life, each tends to fixate on some activity to give his existence purpose. For Tanaleer Tivan, it's collecting rare and unusual items. And as you noticed, that included enslaving innocent people. That's why he wants the Infinity Stones -- not to use them, but simply to have something no one else has. Re: The after-credits scene -- It was meant as something of an in-joke for comic book fans. The dog in the space suit and the talking duck are both well-established characters in the Marvel mythos. In particular, the appearance of Howard the Duck probably had lots of fans laughing and clapping. I hope that explains things a little.
My only bug is that the point that was made concerning the fact that beings of extraordinary strength can hold an Infinity Stone seems to get overlooked by most reactors. It’s an important detail that explains why Ronan and various other characters throughout the MCU can hold one in their hands safely.
I always like it when a reactor's favorite movies from a series like the MCU is different than most of the public cuz then you feel like they actually are thinking for themselves and there not just saying what the public wants to hear to get likes 💯❤
42:57 - "Was that it?!" What more do you want than Howard the Duck! Howard the Duck was a cheesy 80's movie, that I actually liked. Great reaction. Take care.
Michael Rooker aka Yondu has a long career in movies. His character, Yondu controls the arrow-type weapon by whistling. Jax, by the way, did you noticed talking duck with Collector at the end? Talking duck is Howard The Duck. I was going to informed you about this movie, 1986's Howard The Duck, but you can react to it for your honest reactions. George Lucas of Star Wars fame produced this movie. Because of Guardians, possible new or reboot of Howard The Duck.
The Sony “Walkman” portable music player was made in two versions: a cassette player and later a CD player (which I still have). My player still works at over 20years old….cheers
25:56 well, holding breath is not really important in space. A person would die due to decompression in vacuum 5-6 times faster than due to the lack of oxygen. Yep, space is tight :D
Terran - an inhabitant of the planet Terra. Etymology i.e. meaning of the word Terra... Latin for Earth. Terra Cotta is a type of clay pot. Terra Cotta is latin for baked earth. So now you have learned the meaning of two new things. 😅 Gamora is a member of the Zen-Whoberi species. Her abilities include, superhuman strength, enhanced agility, durability and reflexes, and a regenerative healing factor. She is trained as a martial artist and in hand to hand combat. She also has training in marksmanship and swordplay. She also is trained to be an assassin. She has been called the Most Dangerous Woman in the Universe as well as The most Deadly Woman in the Universe. 😮 The Infinity Stones do serve a purpose other than just pure destruction. So far you have been introduced to the Space Stone i.e. The Tesseract, The Reality Stone i.e. The Ether and The Power Stone i.e. The Orb. We were told the Tesseract is a doorway into space. The Ether was used by Malekith the Dark Elf in an attempt to alter the universe back into darkness. The Power Stone was used by a Celestial to destroy an entire planet. So three down and three to go...😂
42:22 As far as I can recall, the explanation of what Thanos is, by implication, only comes wayyyy later in the MCU: The Eternals movie, I believe? And even then, it's not explicitly stated-- and what little knowledge I have heard from the comics helps me understand a little more-- but as far as I know, the MCU hasn't properly explained why he was the way that he was (in terms of appearance and power), but they do eventually delve into his motivations
41:43 No, Thor didn't give the tesseract to The Collector, he gave him the eather (reality stone). "It is not wise to keep two infinity stones together" he said.
The fact that you didn’t recognize Peter Serafinowicz (Saal) made me a little sad, but I realized you’d be able to see his comedy with fresh eyes, and I got jealous!
Oh what Jax, you want a super long comment from a comic book geek, that is hardly related to the movie? I got your back! I was soooo sceptical when this was anounced. Because as a life long comic book reader who never had that much to do with cosmic marvel (in the comics, this is the label for all the stories with higher powers, outer space and so on), I learned to love that side of Marvel during one of the greatest years in comic history. 2006. Not only was that the year in which Marvel Civil War was released, a huge crossover event that changed a lot of characters forver. (you will learn more about this in the movies soon), but at the same time another crossover event started "Marvel: Annihilation". While Civil War was a grand story that dealt with problems on earth, Annihlation dealt with a problem spanning the whole universe. So big that earths heroes weren't even important enough to get informed. And it was a blast. It revived and re-invented so many characters and races, some long forgotten, some retired and so on. From the Skrulls and Kree, to Thanos and Galactus with all his heralds. The 3 main Characters who stitched the whole crossover together were Nova, Drax and Peter Quill (who didn't want to get called Starlord anymore), but they had so many important players, like Silver Surfer, Super Skrull and Ronan the Accuser (yes, the Ronan from this movie). And in the end of that big event the new Guardians of the Galaxy were formed, consisting of the Characters you see in this (and partially the second) movie. I loved everything about this event. As said, I didn't know that much about most of the cosmic characters, but I learned to love them all. And then the MCU version got released. And so came one habit of the MCU that will span all of their movies. "If its a niche character, we can do whatever the F we want with them and no one will care, because no one knows them anyway." So ok, its a younger version of Quill, he is funnier (but just a carbon copy of Tony Starks humor). Rocket and Groot are perfect. Gamora got a well deserved overhaul. Nebula is good. But the Nova Corps are just powerless space cops, Ronan is stereotypically evil, while he is one of the good guys in the comics, but the worst offender? Drax. Drax is the coldest, ruthless, stoic character there ever were. He is basically Riddick in green. A man reborn with just one purpose (no MCU spoiler, don't worry): to kill Thanos. He has a no BS approach to everything, no one will or can stand in his way and he will die for his friends with no remorse, standing alone vs a whole army, just armed with his knives. One of the most epic pages of the event, a full page shot of Drax jumping into an army of vicious alien monsters and the only text bubble is the narrration "..he did it for her." (btw, Ronan would've never stood a chance in a direct fight with Drax) And in the movie? He is the incarnation of "stupid big bodybuilder" a literal walking joke (literally!!!). You understand why I was so sceptical? I didn't really know how Marvel could capture all of this. Thats a huge task. I really trusted Marvel, because they did an awesome job with the MCU! And the movie was good. It just really wasn't what I wanted. But everybody loved it! It became one of the most beloved parts of the MCU! Imagine that. Some weird funky, colorful aliens that no one knew before become more popular than Ironman, Thor and so on! That always left me conflicted, because I, in fact, liked the movie, too. Saw it 3 times in the cinema. I just knew deep inside, what all these characters could have been. Especially Ronan, which I super liked in the comics. He will never be more than a super one dimensional villain and is dead now. I really like a lot of changes that Marvel had to do during all of the movies, just to stitch them together, pull them into a modern setting, give them gravitas and so on. But the way they handled the unknown characters, basically with a "everything goes" approach, felt bad to me. And little did I know, that they will do this to my favorite Marvel Character of all time, too. (get ready for phase 4 ^^) So...yeah what is my point here? Haha, I guess I just wanted to paint a picture of my huge love for cosmic marvel. And dear Jax! Its always nice to hear all your theories and thoughts, you are pretty spot on with a lot of it and you will be so so happy with the upcoming movies! It will be a delight to see your reaction to a lot of it!
This is one of those movies that always makes me cry. Every time Quill's mother says, 38:00 "Take my hand," Every time Groot says, "We are groot," every singe time.
No, Thor's friends gave the collector the Ether. The Tesseract is on Asgard in Odin's treasure vault. It said in the movie...the infinity stones were created at the at the dawn of the universe aka big bang. So nobody created them... its naturally exist in the MCU.

Well said and fully agree
The mother/son stuff and "WE are Groot" gets me every time.
I'm about the same age as you and I felt EXACTLY the same after seeing Guardians of the Galaxy in the theater the first time. "I haven't had that much fun watching a movie since I saw Star Wars for the first time when I was 10 years old!"
Is pet name the correct term or is it normally called "nickname"?
@@markcruz359 I think both can be used
Yeah I agree, it’s probably the Star Wars of this generation
As someone who loves his mother very much, the beginning gets me watery eyed every time. I barely knew about the team, but even though I think this adaptation is different than the comics, I still feel that this is amazing. "We are Groot" gets me bawling every time as well. On top of it all, this is just a fun film to watch and a great addition to the MCU plus the soundtrack is awesome.
I love how they mix action and comedy along with absolute tear-jerker moments. 💔
@@somethinggreatishappening8536 I'd never considered that but I'm officially adopting this theory.
@@somethinggreatishappening8536 especially since we know for a fact that there was still life in those pieces. I like this theory.

The duck at the end is Howard the Duck. He's the star of director James Gunn's favorite Eighties Marvel movie, so he had to put him somewhere.
Oh! That's awesome!
22:57 This wasn't scripted. Chris genuinely dropped the orb here but stayed in character, recovered it and the director loved it so they kept it in.
Well.. in character for the MCU version of Starlord. Hardly a representation of the source material.
@@chand911 Yes, he stayed in character
@@chand911it's probably for the best that they didn't stick to the source material when it came to Star-Lord since the comics version was a deranged psychopath. That looked completely on purpose. I'm sure it wasn't in the script, but it was most likely improve rather than a mistake.
That was such a great moment. I'm glad they kept it in!
Djimon Hounsou was Korath the Pursuer in Guardians of the Galaxy but he also was the voice of Drago Bludvist in How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Odin also explained the Infinity Stones in The Dark World. The Infinity Stones that have been confirmed at this point in the MCU are the Tesseract, the Aether, and the Orb.

Huh. I always thought it was Laika.
@@BlunderMunchkin Cosmo is based on Laika, so not wrong in a sense.
Each has a name and power.

My head canon, (based on what I understand about the comics and following movies), is that Quill, Gamora, Drax and Rocket were able to hold/wield the Power Stone, because all 4 of them are genetically enhanced versions of each of their species. As Nova Prime said to Peter, his biological father is something ancient and unknown.
Hi! Thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoyed this reaction. As for the guardians being able to hold the stone, your explanation makes sense. I'm really interested in learning who Peter's dad is now!
16:36 "They need to start working with the Avengers."
They basically are the Avengers.
I don't know if you noticed the name of the ship is Milano. He named it after Alyssa Milano.

This was one of the best theatre going experiences I ever had. I’m really glad you’ve gotten to see this film, as in that the Guardians are the heart of the MCU and over the next several entries you become really attached to them (Vol. 3 really is one of the best MCU films ever). Oh yeah, inserting Ryan George references makes everything super easy, barely an inconvenience! Also, have to say I love the mini jam out dance session you had during the intro. The music in these movies is as well chosen as the cast.

He is Groot, and is a groot. You should take him seriously when he says, "I am Groot."
I love the Howard the Duck cameo at the end
Wow, that was so much fun! First thing I want to say is *Thank You* for saying right up front that you had already seen this movie. Love your honesty as much as I love your reactions. Seeing as it was 10+ years ago I am not surprised that you didn't remember much of it. While this movie stands great on its own, it is even better when you have the context of the previous nine MCU films that have paved the way and teased the existence of the Infinity Stones. (wow, you are into the double digits!)
I am glad you liked Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser.

The Tesseract is the Space Stone; Teleport to places instantaneously,
Loki's scepter Mind Stone; Control minds,
Aether that appeared in Thor the dark wold is the Reality Stone; Alter reality,
The Orb that appeared in this movie is the Power Stone; Manipulate energy; increased strength, and the two that have not yet appeared are the
Time Stone; Control and manipulate time and
Soul Stone; Control souls.
Together they are extremely powerful.

That is awesome that it still works!
She’s so beautiful with just a straight face then she smiles and laughs and I don’t even know what’s going on anymore 😂
"Pelvic sorcery..." My absolute favorite new term from this movie. :)
Haha!
Jax you're asking all the right questions. just hang onto them & be patient for the answers.
25:56 well, holding breath is not really important in space. A person would die due to decompression in vacuum 5-6 times faster than due to the lack of oxygen. Yep, space is tight :D
Oh my, space is terrifying! lol
Terran - an inhabitant of the planet Terra. Etymology i.e. meaning of the word Terra... Latin for Earth. Terra Cotta is a type of clay pot. Terra Cotta is latin for baked earth. So now you have learned the meaning of two new things. 😅
Gamora is a member of the Zen-Whoberi species.
The Infinity Stones do serve a purpose other than just pure destruction.

As far as I can recall, the explanation of what Thanos is, by implication, only comes wayyyy later in the MCU: The Eternals movie, I believe?
And even then, it's not explicitly stated-- and what little knowledge I have heard from the comics helps me understand a little more-- but as far as I know, the MCU hasn't properly explained why he was the way that he was (in terms of appearance and power), but they do eventually delve into his motivations
41:43 No, Thor didn't give the tesseract to The Collector, he gave him the eather (reality stone). "It is not wise to keep two infinity stones together" he said.
OM goodness, I LOVE your content!! ESPECIALLY with Lamby, it's so funny... Keep up your awesome work...
Thank you so much!
"If its a niche character, we can do whatever the F we want with them and no one will care, because no one knows them anyway."
So ok, its a younger version of Quill, he is funnier (but just a carbon copy of Tony Starks humor).
One of the most epic pages of the event, a full page shot of Drax jumping into an army of vicious alien monsters and the only text bubble is the narrration "..he did it for her."
(btw, Ronan would've never stood a chance in a direct fight with Drax)
And in the movie?
(get ready for phase 4 ^^)
So...yeah what is my point here? Haha, I guess I just wanted to paint a picture of my huge love for cosmic marvel.
And dear Jax!
Its always nice to hear all your theories and thoughts, you are pretty spot on with a lot of it and you will be so so happy with the upcoming movies! It will be a delight to see your reaction to a lot of it!
I love rewatching these movies with you! to be honest, you're keeping up with the overall plot far better than I did the first time around 🤣
As always, such a fun reaction! There's something so satisfying in watching you laugh, smile, and gasp at movies. Keep that positivity up 💕
This is one of those movies that always makes me cry. Every time Quill's mother says, 38:00 "Take my hand," Every time Groot says, "We are groot," every singe time.
The end credit scene was Howard the Duck ( part of the mcu universe). Also, you don't hold your breath in space. Your blood boils instantly =/
No, Thor's friends gave the collector the Ether. The Tesseract is on Asgard in Odin's treasure vault.
It said in the movie...the infinity stones were created at the at the dawn of the universe aka big bang. So nobody created them... its naturally exist in the MCU.
Peter: "I'm going to be honest, I forgot you were here."
Jax: "They forgot you were here. Hee hee hee"
I've re-watched that laugh like 10 times now. 😂😂😂😂😂
And no, there's not a planet of Groots. That's why The Collector wanted him.
That was such a funny part! 😂
