How to create a "Make Your Own" Yoto card (and how we use it with Ambleside Online)

  • We listen to our Yoto Mini 100% by first making "Make Your Own" cards. These are blank cards (every Yoto player comes with 1 Make Your Own Card). I buy extras, and we download audiobooks, create playlists on the Yoto website, and then use the app and Yoto mini to sink the playlists to the card.
To follow this tutorial you'll need:
1, Your computer with the audio files on it that you want to turn into a Yoto card
    2. A Yoto mini (or regular) plus Make Your Own cards
    3. The Yoto app
Since Toto cards with stories are SO expensive, the Make Your Own Cards are the inexpensive way to use a Yoto mini. Since we use Ambleside Online, I'm able to download a lot of older books via Librivox to use for free too.

Why won’t the Yoto cards play when you’re offline? How do you get it to play offline? I searched it up, but not much info was given.

I will look into this. There’s instructions in the app you can find by: Go in the app, choose a player that’s been registered, click settings, and it’ll show instructions for downloading the content to the YOTO so you can play your card offline. It’ll also show you what content has and hasn’t been downloaded to the device for offline use. I do know it has to initially be plugged in to power, and on WiFi. I’d love to hear what others say and will be trying this myself!

For each new card you need to let it load while until is online. I just let the cats play for a minute or so then it's loaded and will play offline.

There is a list! This website has them listed by AO year so you can see what’s recorded: wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Recordings_of_Books_on_the_Ambleside_List

Can I do this as a gift if I don't own a Yoto? I know I could just send the parents the audio file, but then it's more work for them and doesn't open as Christmas-ready :P Would it work to borrow a third-party's Yoto to program the card, then gift the finished cards when we travel to see them?

My mom lives across the country so I gave her my login. She just logs in, reads a book or whatever she wants to put on there, then I open it and add it to my card. Super easy!

I disagree with this being a helpful video. You're very kind to try, but I can go read the directions from the internet just like you did. I clicked on your video because your thumbnail showed your computer screen, indicating to me that you would be SHOWING us step by step how to do it. Next time it might help to take 1 minute to connect your yoto to your wifi, film with a different device and use your phone to show the process. This was a total waste of time.

You could have just went and watched a different video, or would you like to buy her another device to record on ?

@hillarynichole234 really? Is this your first time on the internet sweetheart? She made a completely pointless video and I pointed it out. She shouldn't be making videos if she doesn't have the know-how and proper equipment, which is stupid cheap and easy to come by. I did, in fact, watch a different video made by someone who knows how to make valuable content. I hate clickbate and that's all this was.
