Watching your vids made me realize that art doesn’t need to have a specific formula and it doesn’t have to be done a certain way, it’s just supposed to be fun! I think I forgot that after all these years of the internet telling me otherwise
Yeah it’s like “if it’s for your hobby it only matters if YOU like it and think it looks good, so rules don’t really matter unless you want them too.” But i suppose in professional art it would matter more if it’s actually right according to rules lol
The sun-orange airbrush you add is usually called "subsurface scattering" 🤭. Subsurface scattering happens when light passes through something or bounces back up at the object (tho that could be called something different), a good example is if you put the tip of your finger ontop of your phone flashlight, the light scatters through the skin.
this is a neat technique and it was new to me (because everything is new to me, i only started learning to illustrate a few weeks ago). i immediately want to try using this on some of the "less important" parts of something i'm working on, although i wonder if it will look okay to mix this technique with more detailed shading in the same image. guess i will try it and see 🙂
I am a rookie artists and I have been soending countless hours trying to study color theory, final adjustment and everything to make my art look alive, Thanks a lot for this tutorial, it was really helpful!!!
This is such a handy and awesome tutorial! Definitely gonna try applying some these into my art when I get the chance to get back to doing digital art.
I’m entering the Kazuha fanart contest and was looking for something to spice my art up… I’ll try out something like this, although I don’t do lineart… Still, my art is mostly defined, so it should be OK! Love your Kazuha fanart, he’s so cool…
Tysm for the tutorial! I tried it with my drawing trying to make my sona look cool and I got the exact expectation plus some! Love your art and keep up the good work 🫶
It's good to listen someone that know the things at the same level as you and don't talk like if we were talking about a Cosmus and how does it works, at the end you don't understand nothing and the person wich tryed to teach you made it look harder than it would be. Anyways, thank you for this video S2
I do something similar. I do a mix of cell shading and a more painterly style. I lower the opacity of the multiply layer. Especially when I draw a background. I either do this with Multiply or linear burn
but yeah i used pretty much this exact technique on an animation a couple months ago! used it to make the shadow in a room with the light the shape of the window, then made the light glow and disperse a bit :D
I use something similar in my drawings except I use a dark purple and I also add another layer with add, occapacity 20% and I airbrush the light spots with white instead of the same layer and orange
Awesome tutorial! But I’m wondering, what’s the difference between this one and the one that takes longer? It is just more clean or less colors are used??
The one that takes longer has colors hand picked by me, it showcases and requires a lot more knowledge. This also means you have more freedom to do whatever you please with the lighting because knowledge = "power" 😁
Who else agrees her art style is super cute?
I agree!! It's so adorable 🩷
@@Superstar_sanrio-rt8dg i think we all agree
Me

Wanted to look for a new way to shade my drawings, turns out I was already using this method the whole time 😅
Lol
Same, I usually do this for most of my drawings
Same lmao
Good job with the tutorial Mari! It was very well explained, I'm sure it will help a lot of people ~
