hello, I was the one who commissioned the 2019 art shown in 0:25 ! it's still one of my fave arts my oc to this day. It's amazing to see how your art developed since! You are an inspiration!
3:25 personally,i believe that changes depending on your style. In her style, that's definetly right. But like in my style, wich is pretty messy, that second type of line makes It really pretty. So basically, you just do the line you want depending on wich one you're most comfortable with.
rougher lineart can definitely look good in art ans contribute to a style, but how it's applied will read differently to the viewer. breaking one long, fluid, curvy line into a series of strokes for style is good. breaking each segment of that line into 3 or 4 is guaranteed to look like a mess
I think the biggest w for me in my art journey is being able to look back at my old art and not hate it. Whenever i used to look back at my childhood art, i'd cringe so hard, but now i see it as a reminder that you arent an expert over night. And it also brings back happy memories. I can remember drawing stuff i was so proud of at the time, that doesnt look good to me now, but i can at least remember how happy it made me then.
I love seeing artists redraw their old art, but it’s more fascinating when they deconstruct the process for each one to see what they’ve learned since then
Man, having to look at your old art is both cringy as freak, but so satisfying at the same time. Really makes you realize how much you improved after so much practice. It's always lovely to see :D And also, OMG MY FANART WAS FEATURED AT THE END AFHUSFGEGBIULEW IM SO HAPPY THANK YOU ADBAWJFEW (I'm normal :) ).
Even though I knew my shading was a big mistake, I still did it the wrong way... It's just hard to resist putting shadows wherever we could, lol. A big art journey always has the improvement! 😂
What a huge improvement! The pose on the new one looks more dynamic and I like how you drew the hair on the newer piece. By the way, I literally just noticed that you're from Portugal haha, kudos from Brazil!
I really wish I recording my old speed paints, especially the ones I did on MS Paint cause wayyy too many of them still hold up til today. Like 12 year old me was on something else I could never now 😭
Yeah. I like drawing artist like squidward, even know how to draw on this. Besides. It’s so freaking me out again. Yeah. I like it. That’s always my favorite art too.
6:08 my tip for if you struggle to draw hands use your own hands as reference. I take a photo of my hand, trace the forms, then draw the hand I need to draw using the forms I traced and the photo if that makes sense
honestly i think its fine to just have one sketch and immediatly skip to line art because i used to struggle so much with the fact that my sketch looked better than my line art so now i draw a ruff sketch for the pose and the flow of the hair (cause its hard to draw) then make a tiny sketch in the corner of the page to figure out what i want the character to look like then i draw line art
Actually the lineart is based off what style you use if you use more of a chibi artstyle then try to do more smooth lines and if your artstyle is more of a sketchy/messy artstyle then do kinda messy lines as long as you feel comfortable with it :D
I remember finding a folder of my old drawings and found my favorite drawings,a really badly drawn vampire That drawing holds a special place in my heart just like how Mari holds her art journey in her heart (Why did I write old clothes instead of old drawings...)
Well, I've found your video enlightening. Begun picking apart some of my own struggles drawing. I think I pathologically need steps. But then after all tutorials and tips, it ends on "now draw with these skills", so, due to how my mind works, when it hears "just draw" my mind throws out every technical skill I learned and begins trying to do lineart freehanded. My strokes have improved massively, my ability to create images has actually declined over the last decade. If I focus really hard.. maybe I can complete one piece of the image with blocking before I lose track and forget that's what I'm doing. Not sure what to do about this. I know about blocking, measuring, perspective points, proportions, reference, negative space, contours, just to name what I can off the top of my head... and the moment I reach "draw something" then I feel like I NEED to throw all that out and freehand it. I can't help it... anyway, I feel like I learned a bit more of my own problems watching this, even if I don't know how to work through it.
Im currently learning how to draw, i can indeed say support as a young artist really freaking helps when trying to stay motivated to continue doing it.
I remember feeling personally attacked when Mari talked about Chicken Scratch lines because I always do my lines like that, even when not drawing digitally 🙃 I hope young artists learn a lot from this drawing! I certainly did: I learned I have a lot to learn (maybe from skillshare hehehe plug)
I do furry lines but I do it stylistically I just like that sort of sketchy like appearance on my art. I used to do perfect straight lines all the time where not a single line would be out of place and it took so much time. My lines are also very thin tho. And if it’s like way too furry then I just erase some of it
I have a little question Mari, do you use any default brush or a more specific brush? I’d love to know. Also, you are from Portugal right? Foi um vídeo maravilhoso Mari ❤❤ (I’m sorry if it’s different, I’m from Brazil) LOTS OF LOVEEEE ❤❤❤
No matter how awkward I feel when I look at my videos from over a year ago when I was very new to animation, I will never remove the cringe to remind myself how much i've improved. (and how less cringe i've gotten) Wait i just realized this comment might lead people to watching my old videos I shall be brave and not private them.
Hi Marikyuun! I am super inspired by ur artwork and I love it to death! I kinda want to replicate your line work, but idk how to do it on IArtbook, can you show me how? Tysm, and I love you smm!
"The shading was done wherever it went" is such a good way to encapsulate how beginners feel when shading. It felt like black magic to me
LITERALLY black magic 👉👉
... y'know.. cause the shadows were black...
@@J_weew4756Xd
@@J_weew4756 muddy gray magic
these replies got me wheezing ☠️
Or pure white magic. Your choice
The other advantage of lowering sketch opacity is it keeps you from doing the lineart on the sketch layer by mistake
I personally lower the sketch's opacity so I can see my lineart more clearly
O lower the sketch opacity because I use black to sketch and purlime
@@char.yippeeI use black too

That's why I don't wanna give up with drawing.
Such a treat seeing this video
You're bringing back old memories from ten years ago. I love how your art has improved!
I love how in the old video there was Caramelldansen playing in the background

I heard the term "pillow shading" to refer to beginners way of shading.
Your art is so good and cute 🥰❤

Nice
Better than anything I could do on a PC
I wish I had videos of my old art. But I kept all my sketchbooks and digital files 😭
