For simplicity, Organisation, and cost this is my favourite canopy layout by far! Your camping experiences must be awesome! Great presentation by you too so big ups mate!
got a lot of clever idea's in their, the swivel tap is a good one, also you've very well and clear spoken so I recon I see potential here for a great channel
Well thought out set up lad. Only think I would recommend is moving the gas cylinder out of the canopy. If it vents while the canopy is closed your electrics could set it off to explode. Some lads put them in the under tray side drawers you have so it's a lot safer. A lot of smart and very simple well thought out little builds gone on in there. Looking forward to seeing how it evolves as you begin to use it more.
Dude, what a friggin awesome set up and so well laid out. You often see these huge tool box / canopies that are huge but then inside there’s so much wasted space that it’s not utilising all the area. Yours is maximising a lot of space yet still allowing room for some bits n bobs like camp chairs, fold out table etc. well done mate, well done ! I love the swing away tap too, very handy indeed. Bloody awesome mate 👍👍👍
Initially I found your video for the RTT review as I was looking in to purchasing one (did purchase one for myself). I found your videos very informative and helpful. Lots of great ideas to help with my set up. Thank you.
This is so well thought out - love it, heaps of ideas thanks mate! Also props for your great presence on camera, your videos are so easy to watch and you’re a natural presenter.
Hey mate seen you at the shops in safety bay last weekend was going to run up and have a chat but kids were playing up so didn’t get a chance . Your skills are awesome . Your videos are awesome . Keep it up . Great inspiration for the rest of us
Exploranger id love a more in-depth video on your kitchen setup . What you used where you got it from . I’m in the process of building my own in a tub and fibreglass canopy but same principle . Honestly it is an awesome diy setup
tip. if you replace your tap over the sink unite with a ball valve tap (bunnings) then run your hose of it when filling... leave all taps and valves on the on position it will back feed through your system and fill up your pvc tank ..and loosen the cap on top of your water tank to release the air.
I love your work mate. So refreshing to see a channel with some DIY and a normal budget spent on things. I don’t subscribe to much but definitely worth a sub
Well done, good to see a young bloke having a go, I am sure u will get to see a bit of this place called Ausie, it's huge, your set up makes traveling easier than most, get out n have a look round, Thumbs up from Davi b
great set up and as said by many below - your presence on camera is great. My one observation, for what its worth, its the placement of your fire extinguisher - wouldnt it be better on the other side that is easily opened when your ladder is set up and close to the cooking?
Hey mate, thanks for that feedback! Regarding extinguisher, you're spot on and I agree it would be better on the kitchen side - my setup was quite different when I initially installed it there and it was before I had a rooftop tent too, been meaning to add a second one to the other side (or swap that one). Cheers!
Nice set up only thing I would change is where your gas bottle is should be 1.5 mts away from ignition source by law. If something ever went wrong you’ll find you won’t be insured, but well done
Hey mate, the pantry door system I custom made using Acrylic sheets from Bunnings and the tracking they slide along is made using aluminium C channel. This photo sort of shows it, but feel free to send me a message on Instagram (@exploranger) if you want some more detailed pics - instagram.com/p/B8sspcHg4NK/
Id highly recommend moving the mounts where the gas struts for the door bolt onto, this is how mine was when I bought it and after 2 years the entire canopy frame cracked on all 4 sides as the gas strut was putting to much pressure on the mount, the struts need to be mounted vertically not horizontally, designer fault
To be honest I've treated it pretty poorly, flattening it to well below the recommended 12.05v many times... 😂 Despite that, it's still going strong after 3+ years, but I don't think it lasts quite as long as when it was new (probably my fault due to over discharge!) Funnily enough, I've actually just upgraded the battery over the weekend and have a new video on the upgrade coming out tomorrow.
Thanks mate! Regarding weight, I’ve been meaning to take it over a weight bridge with and without the canopy to get an exact figure and I’ll report back here when I do, but by my estimates it should sit somewhere in the 300-350kg range (excluding food & extras). Cheers!
Thanks mate! Yep the pantry is made from Connect-it aluminium, I've done a full build video if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/dg9p99edhx8/v-deo.html
Thanks Katrina! I built that bench unit myself using "Connect-it" aluminum for the frame then just a simple wood top with sink cutout, sliding runners for the cooker, and a little door for under-sink storage. Here's a photo from when I was constructing it: instagram.com/p/B8IJdVqAoiM/
Thanks mate, appreciate that! If the slides get worn out I might consider swapping them out for a more fancy solution like that, but they haven’t been any trouble as they are at the moment
I'm in the middle of building a canopy from scratch and your fit out has been a source of inspiration for me. If I may ask, where did you find the aluminium track slide for your cuboards? I've only been able to find plastic versions so far.
Hi John, really glad to hear the fit out has provided an idea or two! The aluminium tracks are just made of lengths of C channel purchased from Bunnings (the 5mm version worked well with the acrylic sheets, allowing two to pass behind each other).
Hi Lawrence, as the ladder is hinged I can still open that door quite easily without removing the ladder (it just opens up with the door). It’s definitely not ideal though, I’ve been meaning to add a second one to the other side
Nice set up mate... 👍🏼 We are wanting to get into camping for domestic travel seeing international travel is out for the moment, so some good tips. One question, what do you think of the Kings battery box and deep cycle battery?
Hi Gary, I honestly can't complain about the Kings battery + box, especially for the price! Had it for over 2 years now and can't fault it - drained it lower than I should more than once and haven't noticed any reduction in charge so thumbs up from me! I charge it through a CTEC D250S if that helps. Cheers!
There’s a tie down clamp on each corner - here’s a video I did showing the lift off system that shows the clamps: ua-cam.com/video/UZrjvjNruqU/v-deo.html
Hey mate awesome vids keep them coming !! Do you know the legal regulations with carrying gas bottles in wa by any chance? Not sure if i should carry mine on the back or inside the canopy ... Cheers
Thanks mate! Regarding the gas bottle, I've been looking into this and can't find a clear answer so have been meaning to get in contact with someone about this. Even if it is, it's something I'm looking at modifying in future if I can find an external location for mounting. Cheers.
@@explorebound ohh no worries man...if you find out any more info can you let me know ? I will do the same if i can find anything out ... Keep the vids coming in the mean time !! Cheers brother
Hey mate, when the canopy is lifted off you can get a rough idea of where the supports are to avoid. Everything is attached using bolts with large washers to distribute the weight.
I'm actually planning on getting down to the local weight bridge in the next few weeks so will have an accurate answer for you then, but in the meantime my guess would be 300-350kg (could be way off though...). Suspension is mostly stock and struggling, it will be getting an upgrade in the next few months.
Exploranger Ok thanks. I’m in the process of making a similar setup. I’ve got some heavy duty leaf springs (350kg) but thinking once fully loaded inc tent and steel tray could potentially looking at ~600kg +. Might need some airbags but I wouldn’t be far off GVM once loaded up.
Hey mate, a tough one to answer but a rough estimate of the fit-out would be around $3k. ($800 for 12v system, $800 for the fridge, $400 drawers, and around $1000 on materials to build the kitchen and carpet the inside).
Thanks mate! I bought my lighting strip quite a long time ago so I'm not sure on the exact seller, however here's something very similar I found on eBay: www.ebay.com.au/itm/5m-12V-Flexible-White-3528-SMD-LED-Strip-Lights-300-LEDs-Waterproof-illumination/133255715837?hash=item1f06a8dbfd:g:o9gAAOSwffRd4LPA
I love these simpler yet well thought out setups, not the 50k setups that the big UA-camrs run.
Just found your channel and love the content

Yeah, I hate how awkward it is mounting them outside the canopy but its just not worth the risk keeping it inside
It would be illegal to carry that gas cylinder inside the canopy without one of those plastic bungs on/in them. Im surprised its not in WA, also.
Quite simply one of the most enjoyable videos that I have watched. Well done champion. Mick

Love the DIY flare and simplicity
That's a killer set up 🤙👍
Absolutely brilliant setup, perfect illustration of how a camp setup does not need to cost $25k, love the camp stove on drawer slides.
Mate, this was great to watch. I love the way you kept it simple and on a budget. This shows you don't need a 25K set up!!! Great work mate.

Beat canopy setup I’ve seen

Very impressive, well thought out DIY/ budget canopy. So many great ideas.

This is awesome Ronny Dahl should do a modified on this.
Why? He’s nauseating. This fellow did a fine job of his own.

great setup mate!!!
In the Mojave Desert I use amber or orange lighting to reduce bugs and glare.
I've heard of quite a few people using amber lighting for this reason - do you find it a noticable reduction in bugs?
@@explorebound A bit , or it's too dim to see them . lol

I like how you can lift the canopy off.
Just wondering what the nett weight is of canopy?

The slideout pantry is a great idea! I might have to copy it. Is it made from the connect it stuff from Bunnings?
Thanks mate! Yep the pantry is made from Connect-it aluminium, I've done a full build video if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/dg9p99edhx8/v-deo.html
Great vids cheers. At 12:03 what gauge wire did you run from your starter battery to the King's second battery/CTEK?
I had a sip of my drink every time you said 'stuff like that' and now I'm an alcoholic.

Hey mate how have you secured your titan drawers to your tray/canopy
Hey mate, the drawers are mounted to aluminum box tube that's bolted through the canopy floor.
@@explorebound awesome thanks alot mate
What size tubing did you use?
You've just inspired me to mount a set in my MRT box.
Nate Craig hey mate, I used 50mm box tube so the drawers just clear the canopy lip

looks good mate, where did you get the clamps from to secure the canopy to the tray?
Hey mate, they came with the canopy
Hey mate, how do you know where to drill through the floor of the canopy? Also did you use self tappers or bolts?
Hey mate, when the canopy is lifted off you can get a rough idea of where the supports are to avoid. Everything is attached using bolts with large washers to distribute the weight.
Very tidy! Have you done much long touring? Just looks like a fair bit of empty space.
Nice canopy setup mate. Could you tell me where abouts in Perth you got it from? cheers
I got the whole lot from MRT in Perth, had my standard tub removed and a flat tray + the canopy installed drive-in drive-out.
nice
How much total for the canopy, excluding excessories?
Hey Robert, I did a video running through all the costings of this particular canopy if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/JTV9oSgieAo/v-deo.html
