I loved how Zeppelin took inspiration from Robert Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues," and made it their own, so I figured I'd take their version and put it through the "JJ Filter."

Is that wood bodied or metal to make it look like wood. Your talents are endless. Love everything you do.
Hey Justin you did it again talk back at me
@@sunnymaness939 ..
Man I don’t know how I missed this post. A year ago man that mystery resonator is a must have the tone is one of a kind
what tuning are you in
It’s beyond earthly comprehension that the blues, a THREE chord, exceedingly simple musical structure, branches out into infinite variations, colors, accents, emotions, stories, and so much more. It’s as though the person that discovered it unlocked a key to a hidden treasure of the universe.
Well said brother!
Like watching fractals. Ever differentiating, ever unite.
Damn beautiful way to put it
@@ryangreer6927 thanks bruh haha. I mean, when I hear the blues, “bruh” is all I have to express the feelings lol.
Correction: 3 chords… the root, the 4th and 5th… in this opening tuning it is OPEN, 5th fret and 7th fret. LZ played this in G… So, G - C -D chords! And yes, the blues are pure magic!
Justin Johnson is a rare gem in the world of guitarists, an artist whose mastery of the instrument transcends genres and expectations. Known for his unique approach to blues, roots, and Americana, Johnson’s playing is a seamless blend of technical prowess and raw emotion, with an ability to make even the simplest melodies resonate deeply with his audience.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Justin Johnson’s artistry is his profound connection to the history of the guitar. His repertoire spans a variety of instruments, from the traditional six-string to cigar box guitars, resonators, lap steels, and even shovel guitars. Each of these instruments, in Johnson’s hands, becomes a vehicle for storytelling, evoking the rich heritage of American roots music. His dedication to preserving this heritage is not just about playing notes-it’s about channeling the spirit of the past into the present, creating a sound that is both timeless and fresh.
Johnson's technical ability is astounding. Whether fingerpicking intricate blues patterns or playing slide guitar with soul-stirring precision, he navigates the fretboard with an ease that speaks of countless hours of dedication. His playing is clean, yet full of character, never losing the emotional depth that makes blues music so captivating. He manages to combine complex techniques with a deep groove, creating music that is both intellectually stimulating and rhythmically compelling.
However, what truly sets Justin Johnson apart is his ability to evoke emotion. Listening to his music feels like an intimate conversation, one where every note carries meaning. His phrasing is impeccable-sometimes delicate and subtle, other times bold and fiery, always perfectly suited to the mood of the piece. His performances aren’t just about showing off technical skill; they are about creating an emotional experience for the listener. Whether he's playing a haunting Delta blues melody or an upbeat country-inspired tune, Johnson’s passion is palpable.
His versatility is another defining feature. While Johnson is often categorized as a blues guitarist, his music is a fusion of various genres, including rock, folk, jazz, and even classical influences. This genre-blending allows him to create a sound that feels familiar yet innovative, drawing in listeners from all musical backgrounds. His ability to move effortlessly between different styles is a testament to his deep understanding of music and his fearless approach to composition.
Beyond his impressive musicianship, Justin Johnson is also a passionate educator. Through his online tutorials and workshops, he shares his knowledge and techniques with a global audience, making his style accessible to players of all levels. His teaching is characterized by the same generosity and warmth that defines his performances, making him not only a gifted player but also a mentor to aspiring musicians.
Justin Johnson is a guitarist whose talent, versatility, and deep connection to the roots of American music make him one of the most compelling musicians of his generation. His ability to blend tradition with innovation, coupled with his emotional expressiveness, ensures that his music resonates with a wide audience. Whether performing live or recording in the studio, Johnson consistently delivers performances that are as technically impressive as they are soulfully moving. He is not just a master of the guitar; he is a true artist, capable of transforming simple strings and wood into a medium for profound expression. www.candiano.com
Every time I hear Justin play all i can picture is him standing at the crossroads in the delta and smiling as he is making the devil cry because he will never get this mans soul.
Johnny got a fiddle. Justin got a guitar made of gold.
Reference to the legend of Robert Johnson and I agree. Some deal made here to make JJ this good. Maybe worth it.
Or he already has?
Jk. 45 year guitar player here. This man is good at his craft.
Just curious, who could give this a thumbs down?
So much soul, more than most people have...
@@bboone7847 We all have the same amount of soul.
He just knows how to let his shine.
I could listen to this guy play on repeat for the rest of my days.
Every day is made better by listening to Led Zepplin!!
Justin Johnson and Led Zepplin go together like Jack Daniels and Coke!
@Angel Bulldog zeppelin never played this song live ever
Oh hell yes!
Too bad this isn’t a Led Zeppelin tune. Theirs was a remake of an old blues classic. Just like most of their most famous riffs.
@@scottyandell3644 yeah i read the description too
I agree Led Zeppelin has been my best friend ever I'm Jimmy Page madman 1992 good to go good to meet you all is the king no matter what
I just enjoy this type of guitar playing. To me it's just medicine for the soul.
In the best tradition of The Blues, Justin give us his top notch interpretation of Led Zeppelins tribute to Robert Johnson
👍👍👍
How much of the profits of the tribute went to Johnson's estate?
@Gerald Dixon Cummings Robert Johnson's name is on the writing credits so I highly doubt that.
@@johnmalcolm4822 Zep did rip off a lot of blues artists but this is one whom they actually credited properly. For them to have covered the entire song and not just rip off a riff, they would have had to license it from Columbia records who still owns the rights to Johnson's music.
It doesn't matter what the field of expertise is....I can be just as amazed watching an expert brick layer practicing their craft as I can watching this. When you spend a lifetime honing your skill in something, it is breathtaking. Just so happens that this is my favorite Zepplin/Johnson song ever. Incredible props to you sir.
No matter what your preferences, you have to respect and admire that when you listen Justin play you're seeing two hands and one guitar make the most incredible music ! No overtracking, no blending of playing the song twice on multiple instruments, just PURE honest performance. I may learn to play this well if I live to be 140 and keep practicing ! LOL !
I can feel the pull of the Big Muddy between my toes, feel the wind on my face, and the heat of the day start to recede all in how this man plays. God bless.
I love how this has been out for 15 minutes and almost 1500 people have already seen it!!! Rock on
That would never happen had it been posted in Australia because so many Americans have their location filter on.
Love it
Make that 6500 woohoo
He has 1.14 millions subs
👍4 months on, it's approaching 290k..👌
I haven't listened to this tune in 40 years.
This ministers to me today even more than then because it takes me right back there. Medicine for my soul!
Thanks for fixing at least one thing wrong with me today, Justin!
The one-man orchestra with a single guitar and art to give to the world. Thank you so much Justin, you fill our lives with light.

I truly cannot comprehend how anyone can give a thumbs down on anything I have ever heard Justin play.. Especially this. I just don't get it.
Sittin' on porch , listening to you. Thanks for making Sunday better.
Can't imagine this song sounding better than this.
I usually don't like covers because I think a person should have their own soul but thus is pretty good.
He has a rubber soul😊
That there is some serious "Whoa'Li'shit" blues. Makes me appreciate a dobro so very much more. Outstanding!
Who knew the blues could be so fun.
Who knew!?
This guy is so good its like having a 5 star meal and top shelf bourbon daily.

Beautiful portrayal of English Coventry music and West African beat funneled through the rhythms of Welsh, Cornish, and Irish immigrants to America. The "Blues".💙🎼
Wait, you mean American folk music is influenced by Coventry in England?
@@omegajrz1269 Yes

Long long day today, not the best day either, so at 23:22 I'm led in bed and listen to the brilliance that flows through them fingers of yours Justin, thankyou, just what I needed 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
Listening while doing the dishes this had me dancing around the kitchen.
As night settles in, the sounds of the slide whisper through the bayou and even the skeeters start dancing! I'm getting another beer, and listen again and again until only whiskey can fuel the mind's travels in a land of what might be!
What a great version. Just what I needed at the end of long day. You are killing it with the recent uploads, respect
I've been a massive fan of Led Zeppelin's version for decades, but Justin's awesome version is now my all time favourite. Around 1:47 into the song Justin played a phrase that made me grin like I'd just got lucky,I think I saw a hint of a smile cross Justin's face at the same time. I would love to hear Justin do a version of Bob Brozman's Backwards Blues.
Damn brother, always tearing up, hell yeah...
This is a nice open, clear version. I like it.
I love your Zeppelin covers better than the originals.
Dear god man, you were wringing that thing out like it owes you money ! Friggin amazing
The man, the myth, the legend 😎
Standin’ at the crossroads, the wind blowin’ a gale, a Black 40 Ford Coupe commin’’ down the road, and one hears this... gettin’ louder and louder...Robert? Ry? Nope... it’s JUSTIN!
Each finger is wired to a different processer.
I can't even rub my head and pat my belly at the same time.
Awsome.
That was really something.
When you got it !!! You got it!!!!
Can’t get over what a pleasure it is to watch this guy play. Genius 👏🌹🇦🇺
Viva the JJ Filter!!!!! THANK YOU and please keep them coming :)
That's awesome!!!!!!!
Please, in my time of dying next!)))))))))))))))) I dreaming about your performance!!!!!!!
Spike maulin' tune right there. I can hear a little "Made In The Shade" between the big runs on the slide.
How happy was I to find this? Very! HS! Thank you!
Makes me sad that UA-cam doesn't have a "I fucking LOVE this" button 😕
Crushed it again Justin. Rock on🤘
