True musicians, no pro tools, AI pitch corrections, etc., even wrong notes, and proper laughter. Fantastic. This is how music should be performed. Loving it!!
I think its fantastic how when he messed up he just laughed it off and kept going, also when they all clapped at the improvised bit that was incredible lol
Rick Springfield screwed up the chord progressions every time the song transitioned from the choruses to the verse. It wasn't quite as obvious every time. The time where Colin was playing the sax line over that progression, Rick Springfield really screwed it up royally and it was blatantly obvious even to non-musicians. But musicians know that Springfield screwed up that progression all 4 times in that song. He simply didn't know the chords there and he was faking it - never got it right. It wasn't Colin Hay's mistake.
2:49-51 is the vocal litmus test. When Colin hits the note and leans into it, there's nothing like it . And immediately the appreciation at 2:52 follows.
Just say him last night in Tysons, Virginia. Great show. Music was great, but his jokes and constant swearing were the best part. He has such a self aware personality. He mentioned liking that no one recognizes him anymore, except when he's at CVS and one of his songs plays over the speaker, making him scream out to everyone around him that he wrote it, causing a scene.
I've seen Colin Hay twice in the last year on his 'Men At Work Tour' .. still sounds as good as ever and his voice still reaches the stratosphere on Overkill.

Cargo, yeah..very good album, near top..well, from From LP CARGO Is Overkill, anyway! Both ,album and song, pass the test of time, isnt so? ..like Colin , too.
I love this song, this album, this artist. The first Men at Work album was a gem. It was the last piece of music which I shared with my late brother. We were working on our respective car stereos, and I played a bit as a test. He went straight out and bought the album on cassette (it was 1985). He passed a few years later at 44. In our adolescence during the 60s, we listened to Top-40 music avidly and discussed all the new releases. I just realized this was the last bit of music we really bonded over. Eyes leaking.....
Gotta love an imperfect performance containing such brilliant moments. He is a great guitar player and that absolutely distinctive voice. Just wonderful.
Colin Hay has got the most beautiful selection of Maton acoustic guitars I have ever seen. This guitar he's holding is at least the 3rd top notch custom built Maton guitar I've seen him play. I have not seen a more beautiful guitar, which is quite appropriate considering the beauty of his music/songs.
@@jbcashmanYes, it does look a little beaten up and the stickers can be distracting, but it’s also a Made in Australia (where Rick was born) Maton, with some lovely inlays, and beautiful craftsmanship around the sound hole.
just saw him a few months ago becuase Ive heard so many stories about how great his shows were, TBH, was never much of a fan of MaW but his whole show was so entertaining. the storytelling was hilarious.
This should be an eye opener for all these youths of today, that think there something special, your not, but Colin haye is, and most musicians singers songwriters of his era, that’s why there still a force, and in demand, to this day, ❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That is a singer with completely relaxed and natural breath control.. Sings from a place of effortless strength.. I know this is a stretch to some, but another great singer with that effortless singing from the core ease is Donny Hathaway.. All the greatest singers that can sing as gorgeously from pianissimo to fortissimo have it. Karen Carpenter is another. Just a mesmerizing voice.. And I think in a way he sounds more compelling now, with an acoustic, than the 80's produced version of this song...
40 years on and Colin’s voice is still golden!
still the same afer 40 Years, That's what good artist matters
That's because he gave up the drink and those nasty cigarettes
Pure talent
Colin Hay is criminally underrated!
If you think he's underrated, buy his album.
the only artist ive seen the most live
From Brazil..Man at work...Very good
True musicians, no pro tools, AI pitch corrections, etc., even wrong notes, and proper laughter. Fantastic. This is how music should be performed. Loving it!!
AI pitch corrections? 😂 you mean auto tune that’s been around since long before auto tune
Still airbrush….THIS is real life musicians…no what’s on the majority of radio now….
I think its fantastic how when he messed up he just laughed it off and kept going, also when they all clapped at the improvised bit that was incredible lol
That guitarist was bad from start to finish no sense of timing whatsoever, must have been hungover
That is decades of experience kicking in and just pushing through to the next bar with some improv and picking it back up. Cool to see.
Rick Springfield was never known for his guitar skills!@@wheres_bears1378
@@wheres_bears1378 glad I wasn't the only one cringing, even the guy on the right was bemused at the end and wondering what he was doing. 3:40
Scrubs introduced me to so many amazing songs throughout its seasons. I love that Colin actually shows up in a couple of episodes for cameos 👌🏾
So talented.
Even the mistake in the guitar solo was done while playing effortlessly and with humor.
What a legend.
He didn’t make a mistake the other guitarist missed the chord change. The only thing Colin did was forget a lyric, he nailed everything else-legend

@@pretonicsno. He fU€ked that up.
No cheater. No auto tune. Hits the HIGH note of the song, Beautiful guitar.... played beautifully.
Cheers, Mate.
Colin never has a problem with that high C#. He's a real singer.
2:49-51 is the vocal litmus test. When Colin hits the note and leans into it, there's nothing like it . And immediately the appreciation at 2:52 follows.
I concur. Octave up from the start.
I am upset that I can't hit the like button 100 more times! Such an underrated song from an underrated artist!
Colin Hay is a gem. This song hits so hard.
Wow! His voice sounds great! No difference between that and his 80's voice. He's actually a better performer now than before...more personality!
I saw him last month in Newcastle NSW. He has lost none of his ability or humour.
Colin Hay and Rick Springfield awesome!
3 KINGS of the 80'S! You forgot JOHN WAITE!!!!!!!
I've seen Colin Hay twice in the last year on his 'Men At Work Tour' .. still sounds as good as ever and his voice still reaches the stratosphere on Overkill.
Colin you got me through a tough few months .of waiting on my time for lower back surgery this song kept me sane.
I can't get to sleep
I think about the implication
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications
Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know will be alright
Perhaps it's just imagination
Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Alone between the sheets
Only brings exasperation
It's time to walk the streets
Smell the desperation
At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variatios
It nullifies the night
From overkill
Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat, shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Come back another day
I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications
Especially at night
I worry over situations that
I know will be alright
It's just overkill
Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Ghosts appear and fade away
Ghosts appear and fade away
Colin’s guitar solos are so underrated
Still sings this song so very well. My favourite Men af Work's numbers. Business as Usual was a great album.
What about Cargo?
Cargo, yeah..very good album, near top..well, from From LP CARGO Is Overkill, anyway! Both ,album and song, pass the test of time, isnt so? ..like Colin , too.
Overkill acoustic...MAGIC! ❤
Wow years later I look this song up on occasion because I love it and still a new performance ! Amazing
Agree with everything said, saddest, best live solo,,voice off the chart.
He's been fortunate to recreate his career.
My favourite song of all time.

It's amazing how much this song touchies the heart's of many people's ❤🙌🙏🙂

One of those timeless songs. Brilliant.

You should see the new light blue Gretch he uses with Ringo recently what an instrument !
And as beautiful as Colin's guitar is, Rick Springfield found his in the basement of a frat house, left behind after graduation.

Men @ Work Business as Usual was my very first cassette tape. I wore it out and bought it several times in various forms.
Was my first also!
Colin's voice is amazing! This is song is hits on every level.
Colin has THE best voice i've ever heard x
No one better than Colin Hay!! ❤❤❤
Colin is and always been a truly unsung hero. Great player, xcellent guitarist.
That was simply amazing

I love seeing Colin Hay sing acoustically. So raw and pure and powerful, Love it
Singing "Oh Maggie" on that 12 string mandoline, is to me the most beautiful thing to hear.......try that.
Real music, even with a few warts. I love it!!!!!!!!!!! Keeping it real!!
this voice signature is amazing! time passes and it's the same great voice!
Thank you for the music…
Me causa felicidad oir esta canción en todas sus versiones acústicas por el señor Colin Hay
This song is timeless!🎉
Temazo, y que señor cantante!!! Por Dios!!! Como conservó esa maravillosa voz!!! 10/10
Colin's voice is still like it was in the 1980s--great!
I haven't heard that song since the 80s brings back memories for sure
Keeping his voice, remarkable
I saw Colin Hay live. He was awesome! Funny as hell, too. The man is super-talented, and a wonderful human being!
