Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
I needed a fast project this week and this envelope did not lie! From cutout to reveal video only a couple hours passed (with interruptions!) I threw in my preferred method of hemming knits and a little easing with clear elastic to speed up the process even more. Love the outcome and so comfy!
Hope you like it!
~Marie

Looks great! So happy to see easy. Oh girl, hips? We know the story. Ha Ha.
The dress looks fabulous on you. I’d call it a win
Winner, winner, shrimp and grits dinner! Looks so cute on you.
Yum, shrimp and grits!
Dress looks great on you. Love that fabric. The understitching made a big difference.
Beautiful dress, lovely fabric and lovely design.
Is there anything you cannot wear? I just marvel at how beautiful you look in any style. You often comment on your “rounded hips”, yet even this clingy knit works for you. It does give a bit of a push to those of us with curves to try brighter colors, bolder prints, and lighter fabrics.
Thank you! I love the bright colors. Can't you tell 🤣
Wow! What a pretty dress!❤
Usually don't wear dresses but I really like that pattern.. Think I will try it. Thanks!
I love this dress and can't wait to try my hand at it Thank you for sharing it with us!
Lovely dress. It looks comfortable as well as attractive.
Marie you look beautiful in this dress. It’s so pretty!
Yes, super on you. You almost got that done before your hair was dry. Thanks for your postings I didn’t know you had 🐝. Nice
I agree with you hon, nothing too klingy, looks fab.
You always chose lovely fabric and the dress looks great on you.
Lovely fabric. Your dress looks great! That cape detail really adds to the look. I agree that a print allows for some camouflage of imperfections that may show with movements, unlike a solid.🤭Your methods yielded a superior result. Thanks for sharing your project.
That is a really lovely dress and the material is perfect for the style.
Wow, that was a fast sew. Looks fabulous on you.
Looks great and I will definitely see this!
Love it. You look great in it. 🤓🏴
Love the dress 👗😊
This dress looks awesome on you. Have this pattern can't wait to make this dress. Thank you for all the tips
Wow don’t you look good
What a great sew
Well done x
That is a lovely dress. One to put on my list. xx
Very cute dress that looks fabulous on you!!
It's super cute! 👌 Such a pretty print, and skims nicely over your body. A quick win! 😊
This is lovely. ❤ And you look wonderful.
Okay I'm going to giving this pattern a try! I love the way it looks on you.
love that material. Very pretty dress.
Turned out fabulous!! Looks really nice on you too!
Love the dress!!! ❤
I absolutely love knits, even though my machine skips stitches when I sew. I’ve placed a piece of scotch tape on the bottom of the foot and it helps. There’s something about all that stretch ease that is so comforting. I have to up a size or two otherwise it’s like a skin on a sausage..tight. Anyway your dress looks great on you. And let me add, your skin is flawless and smooth like a rose petal.
Oh my goodness, you are always so kind. Thank you 😊
Looks very good on you. I think I would like to try this one.
BTW, I really enjoy the scenes of your farm at the beginning and end of each video.
Really cute! I love the draping top piece. It even gives the appearance of sleeves without the bother of putting them in.
Nice dress, I love your methods and projects. The way you sew it your way is exactly how I would do it. I apprenticed and worked as a Taylor when I was younger. Love the fabric of the dress too. But I have to say, I so want your blue sewing machine. It is fabulous. Absolutely in love with it. I like the way you take fixer uppers and make them yours. 👍🏻
Thank you!! Yes! The blue Pfaff is a little amazing machine. 😁
The dress looks great on you. Love the fabric. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful!
This is lovely 🌹. You always show great tips and special sewing ideas. I especially like the hem tip.
Thanks so much for doing this simple knit dress! I am in the middles of making a knit dress and this was so much help!
Lovely! ❤
The fabric is so pretty and really makes the dress so flattering. What is going on under the pink plastic in the sewing room?
Ahh, that is the Linton Tweed outfit in progress
Very flattering style! Thank you for another helpful video!
it is beautiful!!
Very pretty! I have that same fabric that I made in Love Notions Laundry Day dress. A free pattern.
I'm going to copy your method using stitch witchery on hems! It's a beautiful finish!
I'm sat watching with wet hair too. It's way to hot here in UK for har dryers.
I love a stretch knit with flowers. It looks awesome. ❤
That looks a treat! The colours suit you so well. And such a quick make 😃
I made that original Butterick walk away dress, oh, must be 10 years ago now. Before it went viral. It took me forever to lay all that bias binding out. I’d never bother again! Apart from the fact that it was odd to wear (probably a poor fabric choice) it wasn’t worth all that fiddling.
That stay tape is a god send. Whoever invented that stuff deserves a medal! It’s my go-to problem solver these days.
Thanks! I agree on the tape. I need to look up who is responsible for that amazing invention. 😊
I really like this classy dress on you! I am going to have to pick up this pattern now.😁
Love that dress the fabric is gorgeous and it looks great
I am asking a probably stupid question but...when you sew knits do you use a special thread? do you do something to the machine to make sure the machine feed dogs won't mess up the knit? I have always heard how knits can be a problem, if so will you please do a video about knit problems and how to sew the properly....I am asking this question at the very beginning of your video so you may already answer my questions....I can barely sew....but want to do more....thanks.
Hi! I'd suggest using a ball point needle and all purpose thread. Yes, they make threads with a little stretch to them, but you don't have to use them to sew knits. If your machine chews them up at the beginning, start your seams with the presser foot set in about 5/8" , not at the edge, and it might go easier... Try not to stress, good your fabric tight but not stretched. You'll be fine.
I love this one! Thank you for all the fantastic tips! I don't have a serger and knits I've been wanting to sew but have been putting it off. I think I will try them now! 💙
Thank you! Super dress, elegant secret pjs!
Yes! Love the idea of secret pj's. Who's going to know?
I love it! Also I tried the stitch witchery on some knits I sewed recently, and it made things so much easier!
Love it!! It fits so well.
❤
Blimey o' reilly Marie that looks amazing. So gonna do. What do you think of Maraflex thread. You look amazing. Your figure is lovely ❤😊👍
Thanks! I actually have some "stretch thread" but I forgot to use it 😕 next time!
Love the dress, the fabric and I think you look great in this dress. I do have a question, when surging the second line of stitching do you have to stretch that also or just normal surging. It has been years and years since I have sewn with knits also. But I will get this pattern and I think I will try this dress. Just starting to get back into sewing clothes. Thank you so much for your channel!
Hi! The setting should stretch even if you don't stretch it. If you do stretch as you serge it cold end up looking a little lettuce leaf ruffly
I love the dress. ❤
Can I use a twinneedle ?
Yes of course!
I have a question how to find straight grain of fabric. 1:10
I love the dress
That is a little trickier on knit fabrics like the one that I am sewing in this video. In general with a knit, I just try to lay it so that the fold edge is laying nice and flat. If it's off, and a little tweaked, then I adjust where the salvage edges are lining up just so that I can have a smooth edge again on the fold. I know that is not scientific, but for knits it's a little iffy sometimes.
