The House of Windsor came into being in 1917, when the name was adopted as the British Royal Family's official name by a proclamation of King George V, replacing the historic name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. It remains the family name of the current Royal Family
Small mistake in the programme: Charles Edward (Karl Eduard) wasn't the nephew of George V; he was his cousin. Their fathers were both sons of Queen Victoria.

Leopold the first was the uncle of Queen Victoria of Britain. Leopold was married to Princess Charlotte of Wales, daughter of George of Fourth of Britain. Princess Charlotte died at childbirth. Her husband went on to become known as King leopold first Belgium. His son leopolthe second became the monster king who committed genocide in Congo.

Filippo ha la perfetta impronta della grande Paola, regina vera e semplice che ha portsto grazia ,bellezza e umiltà nel suo ruolo Ha ingentilito la dinastia
Just a question. Queen Victoria was from the House of Hanover before marriage. After her marriage, the house name changed because they used Prince Albert's last name. Is that correct? How come in Queen Elizabeth II's case, the house name remained Windsor? Was it because Prince Philip's last name still sounded more German and WWII was still a fresh memory? In the case of Swedish Crown Princess Victoria, why will the House name not be changed from hers to her husband? Wasn't it a case even before that when a female monarch marries, the house name changes because she used her husbands? Sorry for all the questions.
Queen Victoria remained in the House of Hanover, despite marrying Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The house name changed to Windsor in 1917 due to anti-German sentiment during WWI, under King George V. In Queen Elizabeth II's case, the name stayed Windsor for continuity, and Prince Philip adopted the Windsor name. As for Swedish Crown Princess Victoria, modern royal houses often prioritize matrilineal inheritance or keep the existing house name, reflecting changes in tradition.
@@Official_Royalworld Oh, I see. Thanks. How come I've seen and read the name House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha? Will the House name only change then if the line dies out?
Correction. Belgian here. Due to his firm catholic beliefs King Baudoin refused to sign a bill allowing abortion (up to a limited period of gestation) to be put into law. Our Belgian government, who found itself in a serious predicament, then pulled a legal trick out of its sleeve by declaring the king 'incapable of governing' for 24hrs during which the bill/law could be passed. In that respect the king was saved from acting against his moral consciousness all while the Belgians would still be able to benefit from this progressive law.
It is actually Saxe Coburg and Gotha but has been shortened to the other in certain publications. Gotha being defined as a separate municipality to Coburg hence the 'and'. Neither is incorrect.
I think it's because there was several Duchies and Principalities in Saxony and a lot of Royal titles , Saxe-Coburg , Saxe-Gotha , Saxe-Meiningen , Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld , Saxe-Coburg-Altenburg and many more. Some might have got their names when Saxe-Coburg and Saxe-Gotha were independent Duchies , If the Duke a Saxe-Gotha married a Princess of Saxe-Coburg and the Princess moved to Gotha , she and her children would be called Saxe-Coburg-Gotha but if a Saxe-Gotha with a minor title married a Countess from Saxe-Coburg and moved to Coburg they were probably called of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha , they lived in Coburg but still had a Royal title in Gotha , there might be a reason to do with the titles because some are called "von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha" and some "von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha" Ferdinand II of Portugal was from the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld but his name was Ferdinand August Franz Anton Koháry von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha in German , Fernando Augusto Francisco António Koháry de Saxe-Coburgo-Gotha in Portuguese and his children with Queen Maria II of Portugal were called de Saxe-Coburgo-Gotha e Bragança , of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and Braganza because Queen Maria had an higher title. "of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha " and "of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" might depend on the way the person became part of the family. "Of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha" might be someone just "of Saxe-Coburg" that married a Saxe-Coburg-Gotha because at those days they married mainly in the family , including with uncles and first cousins.

Bear with me. I was a little carried away. Belgium is a federal country with a national/federal government and 4 regional governments covering the different communities/languages/cultures of our country. 1) government for Brussels, our capital. A complex situation. Both flemish and french are spoken here. Originally predominantly flemish, due to economic migration by french speaking people from the south and french being a dominant language in the world (french speaking people not really inclined to see the benefit of learning another language, particularly this 'boorish' flemish) the flemish people fearing to be outnumbered (and being imposed to abandon their language) wanted to preserve their flemish culture and their part of control of this important city. Therefore a separate government for the capital where both language communities are represented, was created. Historically in the 19th and in the first half of the 20th Century, the south was a wealthy region, due to the presence of natural resources, whereas the northern part was predominantly agricultural and poor. Many flemish speaking people migrated to the south. Their succesful integraton depended on abandoning their culture and language. Also in the north, the french speaking elite of that time, trying to erase all things flemish, imposed the french language in administrations, schools, universities, etc. Flemish speaking people perceived this as a form of serious oppression. It was a source of constant rebellion. The final stage of flemish emancipation was confirmed by the economic uprising in Flanders, all while the south was economically declining. On a political level this resulted in the self-government for the 4 communities. Our latest election results (2024, a new federal government is stil in the making) represent an advanced strive for self-government. Until now the southern part of our country was happy to receive the hard needed cash flow from the northern part without adopting the necessary economic and political measures that were agreed on. 2)flemish government for the northern part of the country, dutch speaking (flemish is the local variant of dutch; 3)walloon government for the southern part of the country (french speaking part) and 4)german speaking government (southeastern part of Belgium, territory which was obtained after WW2).
The Tsar of Bulgaria should have been the person to speak directly on the house of the United Kingdom’s dynastic name change as that should have affected him too and he would have a more poignant view on the subject. I believe tho he is of the immensely personally wealthy Catholic Kohary branch so he feels disconnected,
