Biggest mistakes I see: 1. People doing "Let's Play" gaming channels. Gaming is super over saturated, and new gamers have almost no chance unless the do something really different 2. Not being consistent. People uploading way too sporadically 3. People having too many different kinds of content. For example, they might have Gaming, and vlogging, and pranks, all on the same channel 4. People that already have SOME subs, let's say maybe they have 200 or 500, and they never ever ever reply to comments. So their audience is not engaged really 5. Not doing searchable content. I think it is a good idea to mix trending topics with evergreen ones, but if you are small and want to be found, you have to make stuff people are actually searching for 6. Poor video or audio quality. If you are going to use JPEGs in your video, please make sure they are 1920 x 1080 pixels or better, or they will become distorted and pixelated when you try to put them on UA-cam. Make sure your audio setting on your microphone are correct, and that it sounds decent 7. Intros that are way too long. WAY too long. 8. If you are going to do a trending topic and you are small, try to do it as early as possible so you don't get stomped on by the big boys. The earlier you do it, the better chance you have of ranking on the first or second page of search. SO important. So for example, if you know the new Star Wars is coming out and you are a new channel that talks about Star Wars, dont wait until the week of the movie to make your video, because you have almost NO chance of landing on the first page. Make it three of four weeks ahead of time, make sure your tags are good, and understand that the video may lay dormant and get very few views up until close to whatever the upcoming thing is, whether it be a game, movie release, album release, whatever your genre is. But if you did your tags correctly you should be able to rank for it if you do it way before. 9. Making videos that are just too long. Long videos are okay if you already have a decent audience, but honestly I think it's better when you are small to make shorter videos that get right to the point (maybe 4 to 6 minutes). If you have 10 subs, no one is going to sit and watch your 25 minute video for very long. Do shorter videos, more frequently. 5 videos a week that are 4 minutes each is better for the algorithm (in my opinion) than one 20 minute video once per week
+Malevolent Elephant. Good comment but the last point really depends on the content. Also I am pretty sure 1 long video is better than many small videos (if we assume the same number of total views and watch time when combined), because the algorithm primarily takes watch time into account so the long video would have more watch time.
Yes, in theory. But I still think that it depends on how many subs you have. The algorithm also punishes people for having a high abandon rate. So if you have a 20 minute video and 100 subscribers, and most of the 50 views you are getting dont get past 1 minute of the video, I think that hurts you alot. I could be wrong though lol. I think the algorithm also gauges what percentage of the video that people watched
Erin Klein Dillard having 1000 subs won't change your views. Just looked at your channel and you get the same average views as me and I have 1200 subs. I got the same views at 100 subs and makes no difference.
Guiding Echoes People are naturally selfish- all of us are. People are interested in themselves. My son always says for us to relate the videos we do to the viewer. He says that is what they are interested in.
I've taken my channel from ZERO to 146K subscribers in 20 months... -Channel Art needs to be professional looking(not an upload of your dog etc) -Upload at least 3 times a week -Search relevant key words -Subscribe to video creators, Darryl Eves, David Walsh(these guys changed my life) -Create quality content -Ask yourself..Why do i deserve subs? views? what makes my channel special? What's my message? (random uploads on a poor camera on a subject of no relevance is not good content) -Is there any facebook groups/forums that discuss any topic of relevance in your videos? Join them, push your videos... you have to scratch and claw your way to 1000 subs, it's called earning it. -Stop complaining about youtube favouring big channels, take action! -Finally..if your content is not appealable, watchable to your target audience then you will not be successful. Find your audience, and take control of your channel and content!
Unfortunately it's not about whats feasible...its about whats required..2 videos a month is nowhere near close enough. You cant grow your channel at that rate.
When you say "Scratch and Claw" your way to 1,000 subs, what exactly do you mean by that? What sort of things did you do (other than create likable content, of course) that helped you to get to 1,000?
I think that small users do get discovered when they are putting out great content, although it takes a while to build a channel. I try to grow by targeting a small specific niche which usually works well. Sometimes it is difficult to figure out what tags to use though
I really think I need to learn how to do tags. We are finally learning to do relevant content, but if people can’t find us, it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.
UA-cam content creation is hard work sort of, and surprisingly starts you off into some pretty soul-searching territory. I’ve been making videos and starting different channels for years. I think it gets to a point where you just make content you enjoy enough that you can sustain it indefinitely. narrow in on what you are good at and unceasingly interested in. Now I’m no one to listen to, one channel has over 400 subs, but I don’t upload there as much anymore. I’m focussed on doing content I love to do. I have this guitar channel and I’m feeling my way through it but it feels like my baby more than any so far...
This is seriously motivational! My channel's been going for a strong year now, and to very little success. Your words help make it still feel possible and relevant after all this time and effort. Thank you!
I find that one mistake is taking a bunch of tips from several UA-cam channels and trying to incorporate them all at once. The result can be confusing and usually ineffective. I try to take 1-2 tips and focus on incorporating them well. For instance, right now I’m focused on improving my thumbnails and improving my Vlog storylines. Once that is solid and established, I will move to implement another 1-2 tips in areas I am weak or inexperienced. Thanks for the channel, Tim, it has been great watching and learning!
I fully agree with you that thumbnails and video titles are really important. I agree that smaller creators don't check there analytics often; this is really useful to see where most of your audience is from and it will help you to know at what time to upload.
So by uploading at different times attracts different counties? Is this because of time difference and a new vid will pop up near top of the list? Trying to learn as best I can lol taught myself almost all I know so far hahah
Problem is that the focus needs to be so focused and PRODUCED, that people with experience ACTUALLY DOING STUFF don't have the time to be video producers. So, the people doing stuff they're passionate about in the REAL WORLD OF WORK trying to help others are getting killed. YT for money was never a concern...a nice to have, but never a goal. YT for views and helping others in the niche, yes, totally a focus. But now, that gets dropped and content shifts towards content focused on my ACTUAL CUSTOMERS IN THE REAL WORLD THAT PAY THE BILLS. Helping others in the niche no longer a priority. YT is going to killing their "how-to" content providers ruthlessly.
I just subscribed. I love the way your videos are down to earth, feature you just being yourself, contain value, professionally presented and not over flashy.
I started an AMSR channel a month ago, something I love and truly enjoy watching asmr videos and making videos myself. Hopefully my hard work will pay off one day with more views and subscribers. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! 😍 You got yourself a new susbcriber.
I do agree with the common saying that gaming is "over saturated", but then again, a lot is on UA-cam. The way how I see it is that people keep looking for new content to watch. They choose based on quality of the video, type of content and the personality of the content creator. If those 3 match the things that the viewer was searching for, it doesn't matter how saturated it is (in my opinion) because the viewer has found what he was looking for. I also feel like people that say something is not possible anymore because it's "over saturated" are too lazy to really put effort into the videos and grow as a personality. Each personality is different so there is always an audience for people. Anyway, that's how I see it haha, maybe that's because I will not give up having a gaming channel just by the fact that it may be "over saturated".
I agree yes and just yes to this it’s hard to do something 100% original on a platform that’s been around for over a decade now. So the best you can do is add your own spice to what you do and be original. I’m a wwe gamer I do my own Custom Characters Universe Mode...someone commented a few months back “dude this is awesome i really like how you use custom characters” to me that meant that there are people who want to see something different but because it tends to be over shadowed by everyone doing the same thing of Raw Smackdown NXT (real wwe shows with real superstars that people know) it’s hard to stick out but I keep doing it because it’s original and no one can duplicate what I do with the characters I have
I agree. I know upload frequency is what's killing me, but I'm not going to start putting out less quality. I'd rather skip a week than put out junk, but if I go to long without uploading (like when I went travelling sans internet for 6 weeks this summer), it really slows growth.
Yes, I agree! I'm stuck with making sure my videos are more geared toward quality too and sometimes I just can't upload it on my weekly video release until I fixed all the sound, make sure the VFX look real enough and any reshoots of scenes to make the overall video better!
The Audience Retention graph is gold! But also, if you find people are leaving your video at a point that isn't really necessary to your message, you can cut it out! When you're in your Video Manager, click "Edit" on a video, then "Enhancements", then "Trim". That'll let you cut out parts of your video. I've done this when I found spots where people drop, and it's usually a spot where I'm just rambling, or a spot with just still text on the screen. :) So I get rid of it if I can. Doing this doesn't affect your video's stats: it keeps the same number of views, etc. Things just hopefully change from that point forward. And you can undo it with the "Revert to Original" button. So you can test performance with parts cut out, and if it doesn't make any difference, undo.
Getting unstuck 1 week at a time over here. 5 weeks of consistency and numbers looking up. We know why we are making videos and who were making them for. We are working on getting better at integrating the who/why. We believe that Family is best when shared, so we invite people to become part of our extended family. Thumbnails and titles are still a stuggle but im learning Canva. Getting together a group of 10 folks in target audience to function as a focus group to help improve our content. Going to buy the book soon.
My channel is not even a year old yet...I didn’t expect to even reach 20 subs, I just put some videos out that I wanted to see that didn’t exist, when doing research on ram trucks, power wagon, rambox feature. +ATV and other Outdoors related things. Now I’m at 244 subscribers, my one year anniversary is Feb.05/2018, that’s not bad imo! Your channel has helped as well as Darrel’s👍🏻thanks!
At the end of the day, there are plenty of same topic channels that are very similar in terms of branding quality, thumbnails quality, title quality, video value and yet some of them have considerable audiences while others have no audiences (I'm not talking about myself here ;)). All of those mentioned things are, of course, extremely important, but to think that as soon as you take care of all of them (and not only), you'll start growing exponentially, is delusional, imho. Random, unpredictable factors seem to play a huge role and it's probably due to enormous supply of videos on UA-cam. One may post a video and it will start trending, then keep on posting better videos and watch all of them flop. Another may just never get that trending video and watch all of his/her videos flop. Majority of creators are doomed not to reach 1000 subs, ever, imho, and those who actually make it simply fall prey to the illusion of ease disregarding the fact that quite probably many more tried the same or even harder but failed.
Hey Uncut fishing! Great comment! I have a brand new fishing channel! Im going to subscribe to you and if you would like too hit my sub button and help me out !! Thanks
....well that needed to be said for real. I’ve been doing UA-cam for 7 years....admittedly didn’t hit my stride until 2015 2016 so it took me a few years to find myself. I’ve had people tell me mainly in the past few years “dude you’re going to hit 1K”‘I appreciate the gesture and I’m sure they are genuine but it’s hard to wrap my head around that. I’ve seen videos talk about this topic and a lot of what was mentioned here I’ve heard everywhere else.
Your help and advice has allowed my small specific niche channel to start growing a little each day. Excited to improve my content for even more improvement. Thank you 😊
Very much appreciate the tips! We are at about 150 subscribers and have made around 40 videos. Just now starting to see a trend in the type of content that truly interests our audience. Funny thing is it’s an area that we didn’t intend to target 🎯Hopefully we will find that perfect recipe 😆 we have fun creating regardless 👍🏻
All the suggestion Given in the video are very important for Us and For New UA-camrs. And I See there are So many Suggestion in the Comments too. And I think We(New UA-camrs) need to follow only Those suggestion only and we will be a successful UA-camrs Soon. If We follow those Suggestion honestly. But Thanks to all of You For Your Time to give us this kind of Suggestions.
I definitely know that thumbnails and titles play a HUGE role in getting people to click on our videos. Like you said, I've done some videos that I believe are amazing, but my title and thumbnails weren't all that good, which resulted in those videos performing poorly. On the other hand, when I struck thumbnail and title gold, my views skyrocket! And the irony is those videos weren't as good as the ones with not so good thumbnails and titles. So honestly based on my experience as a young UA-camr, title and thumbnails can make all the difference. I post a new video everyday and you can see the difference, even if videos are just a day apart. I'm still trying to work on my thumbnail and title game, I honestly believe I suck at this part of UA-cam. Since I currently do daily vlogs, I can't prepare thumbnails in advance because I don't know what the day is going to be like. Secondly and more importantly, after spending hours editing each vlog, uploading it, tweaking the description, sharing it on all my social media, I get so tired that I lack both the energy and time to work on a stellar thumbnail. Another thing is sometimes you don't know what to put in your thumbnail and it's so hard to come up with something that's appealing that's not clickbait. So I end up just using a scene from the actual video and writing a quick title and then head to bed. My plan is to work toward improving my thumbnail and title game, because I know how IMPORTANT it is. Sorry for the long comment, most ppl won't read this far anyway, but I had to share.
As a person who has been known to make many a long comment, some of which are like a good article, like yours, I greedily read it all. It's a very good comments. I do very similarly. I chose a screenshot most of the time from the video, add a title and call it a day. That said, with experience we'll both get better at it. Sometimes things in the video are very appealing and there's nothing wrong with transporting that to the thumbnail. I've occasionally taken a picture, purposely to make an extra good thumbnail and it can be hit or miss. Sometimes all the extra effort doesn't appear to have worked. There's a few videos I made which out performed other videos. I saw that there was an issue with the title or thumbnail and I changed it. UA-cam says to not change meta data on a video as it may further confuse UA-cam's algorithms to help you, but if a video has been up for months and it's not meeting the potential of another video, it doesn't hurt trying to change it. Months later some of these videos relatively took off from how they were doing before. What's unique about my comment is the cleaner looking the thumbnail the less it seems to be clicked. As an Automotive channel I think we know it's a dirty profession and what's down to earth gets more clicks. I'd love your opinion on my thumbnails if you get a chance. I'll take a look at what you're doing too.
Great video and still 100% relevant! I have a small channel and going to really focus on analytics and drop offs in watch time so I can actually improve. Thanks!
Yes it is! Actually getting 100 subs is very hard. It took me two months to get to 100 subs, and then three weeks after that to get to over 9k. I just got lucky though lol
Man you did get lucky, only videos you have with 100 plus views a re all the clown ones with pennywise. Meaning your advise on content is junk, most of your content had only a couple hundred views tops.
I just passed 300 subscribers after being on UA-cam for 10 months. I'm definitely feeling the struggle to get those first 1000 subscribers, but these are some great tips I'll keep in mind.
i feel the same Geaux, feel i tick all these boxes but still dont get subs, maybe 1 a day. I love my channel and love editing my footage/content but do feel put down by the lack of interaction. Andy
Your positivity is infectious! You're information is helpful and easy to understand. Our channel is just getting started here on UA-cam, and your bank of resources is a huge help!
Love your work. Thank you for all the information. It has helped me out a lot. As a content creator I think its important to engage with your community and also not be stale in personality. I see too many new creators who show no passion. They then get mad as to why no one is subbing. People want to feel our passion, cause more often than not, it gets the viewer passionate as well. At least that is my experience.
Helpful tips. I still think it's incredibly difficult for new channels to get any significant exposure with that algorithm alone to make the juice worth the squeeze regarding YT production. The only channels I see grow Well think way beyond algorithm limits. 💪🏼💯
My titles and thumbs are my weakest links, but the one that bugs me is the content value piece. I get loads of compliments on my editing and production, but not a whole lot of feedback on content. That points to an unspoken problem there.
Tim, do a video if possible on where to get quality music for a YT channel. I'm really struggling with this. I haven't found any great stuff through UA-cam's "create" link. What else are creators using? I definitely don't want to pay a fee -- I know there are some services to license music. But what else is out there?
My personal Walkthrough... 1. put a a random related content you want your channel will be...example...DIY's Electronics, Tech Reviews.. 2. add proper searchable titles and tags... 3. upload a decent amount of vidoes...max 7 vidoes per week.. 4. once a video topic excels from the others...example How to FIX something....How to Connect something...make it your weekly format.. 5. if people responding to your content..ask them what they want to do next...even if a single person ask for it. 6. Once you gain momentum or you feel comfortable uploading those kind of content...stick to it 7. be consistent and never let go your topic..for know...you should build your niche first. 8. once you gain enough subs that are following you...experiment again with another related content..like review a product they likely use and know what it is...like the once you been doing your tutorials..to Expand your niche...why?... by the time they know what they subs for..they will keep coming back after they learn something from your tutorials... 9. NOW repeat step 5.... Thanks....
feel i tick all these boxes but still dont get subs, maybe 1 a day. I love my channel and love editing my footage/content but do feel put down by the lack of interaction. Any help would be great. Thanks Andy
Rasat, I tried hard at growing my channel but no matter how hard I try, my channel never grows, my videos are ok, even a few people like me who try hard have no success, so what I’m trying to tell you is, even the people who try hard can not always have success at getting many views and likes, UA-cam decides whether a video gets many views or not, my channel is disabled by UA-cam because UA-cam thinks my videos are bad.
Wow, I must've associated with your brand because you are the only youtuber i've ran into thus far to point to the real problems (us not perfecting the craft of youtube marketing and video creation and branding) as opposed to blaming the algorithm. I started to believe that maybe the algorithm isn't pushing my videos out there, or maybe I have the wrong audience since my retention isn't good enough (and as you say, I pour many hours into my videos). I've written your tips down and may even get the ebook but I know one thing for sure. I WILL grow as a channel, by constantly re-evaluating how I am doing. THANK YOU!
I feel like I'm following your advice Tim, but the problem is that no matter how well I try to do, if it is buried deep within search results and my social medial accounts don't have many followers, they don't get seen by more than a few hundred people. Anyone who wants to look at my channel can take a look and tell me what they think I'm doing wrong. I'm open to criticism, but so far it seems like your advice is a good foundation, but doesn't mean squat if the UA-cam algorithm decides to bury your video way down underneath everything else.
Waypoint Parenting Actually on the contrary, you have a pretty solid view/sub ratio. I see the eclipse video definitely got ranked. I would just keep on it and watch your stats, such as watch time and completion.
The algorithm nay not necessarily push you up but there are other things you can do. I think with a faith based channel, you'll have to work a little harder to find your core people. And you only upload once a week.
Thank you guys for responding. Yeah, I only upload once a week. That's already hard with a full-time job and 3 kids. I would have to think of a way to do a format and content that doesn't require a ton of time.
If you make gaming videos, would it make sense to reedit some of your earlier videos to improve your content overall?so taking 3 videos, reediting them into 1 decent video and posting it and removing the original videos?do you think people would be interested in seeing older stuff?
I was at 500 a few weeks ago and I am now close to 900.... and my watch minute views the last 28 days is 64k...... i will meet the threshold soon.. I just need to re-apply then..
I got a question what about for a person who does not have a computer nor any Expendable income how would you recommend someone like me trying to give the world the poor View to grow my channel?
Hi. I'm a Film Maker and have been making corporate movies for years and have just started my own vlogging channel. I'd love your feedback. It's so different from the corporate world.
Are you sure that conversation among smaller creators did not center around the random demonetization of videos? This is a big issue that I see no big channels really talking about or coming together to figure out. Now true it may just be busted AI on the part of UA-cam but that AI is picking up on or maybe not picking up on certain identifiers and it would be nice to know what those are. This is especially true considering the wide array of niches that are affected. One would think that the larger channels, especially those that are here to help creators, would be figuring out what is going on or at least collecting data as I have been to try and make at least some sense of the issue. I don't mean to be harsh here at all but over the last few weeks and months, if seems this topic is ignored more than it is talked about with bigger channels and that is simply a disservice to the small channels that follow you. I will be talking about this tonight on my live stream with quite a few other small creators, if we can do that, you bigger channels can too. The info in this video is nothing new for those that have followed you for any length of time. Many creators are doing these things but affected now by this particular issue.
Sky Ninja Speaks i see left leaning & neutral stuff suffering every day. what bugs me is, i have followed Tim, Roberto, Derral, more for years and they remain silent on the issue. i don't like it, they have the contacts and means to figure out far more than us, yet they do not.
Yep, my point, seems no rhyme or reason to it. But, it is AI and algorithm driven, so there is a pattern somewhere. Creator content stuff is not my niche but I am working on collecting data on this and trying to figure out what the "triggers" could be. Honestly, I think I may be getting close to at least one answer and that is inconsistent tags, titles and descriptions that are not fluid enough to give a good picture for the algorithm to look at. Now, that said, I think that there are multiple trigger points and that you don't get hit with demonetization until you trigger a certain amount. I also am thinking that if your channel triggers multiple times, it gets flagged and all subsequent uploads and live streams are automatically hit. This is just a theory from a small channel trying to figure it all out.
I recently had both parts of a 2 part backpack review flagged and demonetized. They were restored on review, but it's still frustrating. To me, the most frustrating thing thing of all was YT's support folks telling me to "Go read the guidelines" over and over when I tried to find out why I was flagged- despite the fact that I told them repeatedly that I HAD read the guidelines forward and backward. It would be nice if the bot would let you know what triggered it... (Btw, CloverTac, I checked out your channel and subbed. It looks interesting.)
Yes, agreed, 100%. This is why I commented here. I respect Tim and the knowledge he and his team have a lot but think they are letting us down in a way by not addressing and trying to help us figure this out. And, thanks for the sub, always appreciated. I will be sure to give you a shout out on the next After Hours how because, well, that is what we do there. We gotta stick together in our niche for sure!
CloverTac Absolutely. If you're ever hard up for a panel member andyou think it's a topic I can contribute to, don't hesitate to contact me. If my work schedule lines up with it I'd be happy to take part... (Just throwing i out there.)
I watch pretty much all your videos Tim. Another great one here which definitely applies to me. I'm up to 123 subs and am having real trouble with branding identity. People do seem to like my live stream gaming but my videos are poorly produced (a learning curve I know) and thus there is no order or structure to my channel. Constant changes to my logo, web banner etc don't help either. I really need to sit down and answer those important questions. Best wishes from the U.K.
Firecraft - definitely :) tired of learning tired of living....so they say 😂 tempted to call it a day at 123 subs though. Pretty epic number. Or maybe try for 123456.
Surgery 7 Gaming just my opinion, your playing really old games.. no offense but mabye play newer red alert games, or mabye command and conquer if your into RTS games, idk.
Aertew yeah I get what you're saying. I need to expand on the type of games I play. Old games are not popular with the younger (sub 25 year old) generation. It's hard when I find all new games are boring for me. Everything was better in the 90s 😂
Thanks for the video! Looking at my analytics I consistently drop from 100 to 75% retention at 2-3 seconds. Is that kind of drop off normal or is my intro sending people away? It's super quick, roughly about the same time before you see us talking. Thanks!
We did change up our intro a while back and it helped our drop rate at the beginning. Some were dropping to 40 percent. So I guess that is a good thing.
I was so happy when I hit 100 subscribers but for the past few months I’ve been in this weird pit between 110 - 120. I just can’t get out of it. It’s really discouraging, as you said, when you put your effort and heart into these projects but go nowhere with it. It makes you feel like you don’t want to make any new projects anymore. 3 years going strong but, I’m not going to lie, the doubts I have about my channel and my skills as an entertainer are constantly in flux. This video helps me a lot though to keep pushing and learn what I’m doing wrong.
I'm pretty sure uploading frequency is my biggest problem. I try for weekly, but it doesn't often happen. For the last two summers, I've gone on big trips with no computer or internet, and when I came back, I could see a huge dip in views on new videos. This time, I quickly but up some not-so-great videos that I'd either tried to finish before I left, or had done on my phone while gone. I'm not sure if that helped, or made things worse. Darn life keeps getting in the way.
I've learned alot just from this video. I watches this maybe a month ago but come back to really grasp and understand as a small creator I do want to learn and grow !
Thank you for the some tips! Trying to get to 150 subscribers. One question, I do a lot of gaming livestreams (mostly zombies) and I’m thinking of putting some tutorials to my content as well, what do you think! Is it too mixed?
Great thanks for that. I know that my content quality needs to be improve and I'm starting to work on it as well as everything else in the back ground too. It's only been this last month that I've really started to pay attention to the nuts and bolts of UA-cam but I've been posting videos for a few years but never really had any success in views or subscribers either. The probelm is that I'm still struggling to get 100 subs and although I'm trying to implement all the tips it just isn't working as yet, so this leads me to think that it's the type and quality of my content that needs to dramatically improve too. Hopefully that will start to pay off in the next month or so. Luckily I still really enjoy making videos about my interests so I'm half way there I suppose. Cheers
Great video! I am new to UA-cam and definitely need to get better at creating catchy Titles. Looking forward to reading your book. Thanks for all the great information.
Man Ive been watching your videos for tips and advice which I find it useful and enlightening. My channel got only 20 subscribers. Hope it will grow and continue to be noticed. Thanks Tim!
Tim i believe everyone can grow just got to work very hard upload frequency is key, I definitely know that thumbnails and titles play a huge role, i'm a vlogger i really enjoy making vlogs you have to enjoy what you doing.
I've just made it....good luck everybody. You can do it. Don't loose sight of who you are and your message
Thanks! :) I'm really trying! At least it's a lot of fun!
It's hard I think I'm growing reaaally slow
Good luck to you all x
@@aotradimension true i am also growing so slow took me 9 months to get 100 subs
@@azakerahman1471 it's really hard to get everything going

10. the live stream craze. people are too lazy to edit videos so they go live stream because they think people like watching them live.
+Malevolent Elephant. Good comment but the last point really depends on the content. Also I am pretty sure 1 long video is better than many small videos (if we assume the same number of total views and watch time when combined), because the algorithm primarily takes watch time into account so the long video would have more watch time.
very true I noticed that too!
You got it right
All this talk about 1000...I just want to get to 100 😐
GIS Geek me too man
haha same here!
I am hoping I can get to 100
Erin Klein Dillard having 1000 subs won't change your views. Just looked at your channel and you get the same average views as me and I have 1200 subs. I got the same views at 100 subs and makes no difference.
I can't even pass 10 ahaha
"Whenever I talk about myself too much, people leave."
Sounds like my personal life. 😂
Guiding Echoes People are naturally selfish- all of us are. People are interested in themselves. My son always says for us to relate the videos we do to the viewer. He says that is what they are interested in.
Share Bright Light Subbing to anyone who subs to me and if you do sub tell me what number sub you are so I can subscribe back to you
😂
Too funny! haha
That's what I was about to say. Let me explain...
Thank you for your tips. I remember watching your channel when I was at 17 subscribers!
OMG you are over 1M, you just motivated me
😳🤔🤯😎.....motivation overload! Thanks!
I've taken my channel from ZERO to 146K subscribers in 20 months...
-Channel Art needs to be professional looking(not an upload of your dog etc)
-Upload at least 3 times a week
-Search relevant key words
-Subscribe to video creators, Darryl Eves, David Walsh(these guys changed my life)
-Create quality content
-Ask yourself..Why do i deserve subs? views? what makes my channel special? What's my message? (random uploads on a poor camera on a subject of no relevance is not good content)
-Is there any facebook groups/forums that discuss any topic of relevance in your videos? Join them, push your videos... you have to scratch and claw your way to 1000 subs, it's called earning it.
-Stop complaining about youtube favouring big channels, take action!
-Finally..if your content is not appealable, watchable to your target audience then you will not be successful. Find your audience, and take control of your channel and content!
The "Why do I deserve subs" is a really good question to ask yourself. Thanks for sharing! - Catherine, vcTV
Harry Potter Folklore Great advice here. Coming up with good branding and channel is something I'm currently struggling with.
Great advice... so much wisdom. Thanks for sharing.
Reading comments from 2 years ago and seeing that some of y'all now have over a million subscribers is so encouraging
Ikr i saw that too!
Right lego
Exactly! How they did it? It seems very hard, some people are really lucky. I am stuck at 50subs🤔
@@ds14games Go to their channels. Look at their oldest video and then their newest. That’s your answer!
I just passed 1000 thanks to you and your tips. So thank you.
You have really nice channel m8, i just found it :D
congratsss!!
Thanks Drolby
Thank you Lilian Angeline
Thanks for sharing! - Catherine, vcTV
I think that small users do get discovered when they are putting out great content, although it takes a while to build a channel. I try to grow by targeting a small specific niche which usually works well. Sometimes it is difficult to figure out what tags to use though
Videiq is awesome
Random YouTubing Tip: people hate really long intros. Try and keep it short and sweet.
will keep that in mind.
Syberyah How short we talking?😂
@@NicktrosGaming a few seconds at best, wouldn't make it longer than 10 thought
Lunoire Yeah I can agree. IDK how long mine is but it’s what I have for now😂👍
@@NicktrosGaming About as long as it needs to be for people to understand what's happening, if there needs to be one at all.
This is seriously motivational! My channel's been going for a strong year now, and to very little success. Your words help make it still feel possible and relevant after all this time and effort. Thank you!
Wish I found this video sooner, I'd probably be at 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours by now :( better late than never though. Just subscribed.
Friendly reminder that 4,000 hours is 240,000 minutes.
Wow and now a year later you are over a thousand! CONGRATS!!!
kinda glad I found it not so far into my youtube adventure. glad you're at 1000 now keep up the good work I still got some way to go.
Ok
Haha, now you have 1.37k subs! Congrats!
Slowly growing (196 subs) and getting better with the content. Really enjoying sharing my world of climbing on UA-cam. Thanks for your help Tim.
I broke 1,000 subscribers this week!
Thanks for making these videos and helping us out!
awesome
Spencer Coffman wow congrats!! Subscribe to help me get to my first 1k?!
Good job how long it take you???
I fully agree with you that thumbnails and video titles are really important. I agree that smaller creators don't check there analytics often; this is really useful to see where most of your audience is from and it will help you to know at what time to upload.
I agree with you timmy ! Going to have a look at my Analytics right now xD
Agree. Thumbnail and title are also important 👍👍👍
So by uploading at different times attracts different counties? Is this because of time difference and a new vid will pop up near top of the list? Trying to learn as best I can lol taught myself almost all I know so far hahah
Timmygammer true Timmy
Timmygammer Truth!
DunTee You just keep that positive attitude! It’s contagious!
I agree yes and just yes to this it’s hard to do something 100% original on a platform that’s been around for over a decade now. So the best you can do is add your own spice to what you do and be original. I’m a wwe gamer I do my own Custom Characters Universe Mode...someone commented a few months back “dude this is awesome i really like how you use custom characters” to me that meant that there are people who want to see something different but because it tends to be over shadowed by everyone doing the same thing of Raw Smackdown NXT (real wwe shows with real superstars that people know) it’s hard to stick out but I keep doing it because it’s original and no one can duplicate what I do with the characters I have
These are great tips; thank you! I also think that networking & collaborating with other UA-camrs is another great way to grow!
Upload frequency is our channels biggest challenge right now, but I think quality is still the most important in the long run.
Yea, you really have to find a happy medium between the two. - Catherine, vcTV
@Why Wait Productions Good VFX take a long time, taking the extra time will pay off for sure with that type of content.
So true! I checked out your lobster video! Really interesting and I didn't know they could re-grow their own limbs. I wish humans could lol!

BR Outdoorz your killing it bro! keep going up!!
Thanks for this video. My life in Okinawa isn’t grabbing subs. But I’m working harder to change that.
Uncut Fishing Very good comment. I like your common sense realism. A lot to think about. I enjoy making videos, and even the editing.

Constancy has always been my downfall.
Thanks!
What we did is we added something important to our *_about_* section , and shortly afterwards our subscriptions started to go up.
I have to agree with you. Not too long ago, I was under 1000 subscribers. Now I get about 1k new subscribers a month... and growing.
Nice! At some point, the coveted "snowball effect" will kick in, like it is with you now. Congrats!
Malevolent Elephant Thank you. I tell everyone that is interested that the first 1000 is the hardest.
Yes it is! Actually getting 100 subs is very hard. It took me two months to get to 100 subs, and then three weeks after that to get to over 9k. I just got lucky though lol
Wow! - Catherine, vcTV
Awesome! Good luck to you too!

I’m still angry what UA-cam did in January
People also have to remember that growth on UA-cam doesn't just happen all at once. It takes time and dedication, but it can be worth it!
Agree
My titles and thumbs are my weakest links, but the one that bugs me is the content value piece. I get loads of compliments on my editing and production, but not a whole lot of feedback on content. That points to an unspoken problem there.
Crawling here to reach 500 ! Greetings from Jakarta walking series
Great tips, thanks! I feel like I do everything you talk about, but I can’t see to get past 800. I’ll just keep trying!
Take care!

Thank you bro! I'll consider all of these.
My channel only has 8 subscribers. This helps a lot! I’ll be applying this to my very small channel ! Thank you so much!
Calista Renee ready for.. U know that
Tim, do a video if possible on where to get quality music for a YT channel. I'm really struggling with this. I haven't found any great stuff through UA-cam's "create" link. What else are creators using? I definitely don't want to pay a fee -- I know there are some services to license music. But what else is out there?
I'd love to get past 99 subscribers.
Done👍575 now 👌 doing good plz sub bk
I just reached 1,000 subscribers. Only took 6 years!
:)
Oh dear! That sounds like a lot of hard work! But congrats!!

Spin Cycle Records You didn’t give up though!
.....by the time I hit 1K I would be doing this for close to 15 or 20 I’m at 7 years already
3 subscribers. I really need to post more content. Only 3 videos and one recent video. 2018, this will be my year.
D. M. GAMBLE subed! Sub?:)
Done your turn
I started my UA-cam 5 months ago and already have 250 subs! Shared beliefs, brilliant marketing, and a passion for your content!!!!!
6. Once you gain momentum or you feel comfortable uploading those kind of content...stick to it
7. be consistent and never let go your topic..for know...you should build your niche first.
8. once you gain enough subs that are following you...experiment again with another related content..like review a product they likely use and know what it is...like the once you been doing your tutorials..to Expand your niche...why?... by the time they know what they subs for..they will keep coming back after they learn something from your tutorials...
9. NOW repeat step 5....
Thanks....
Everyone can grow you just gotta work hard every day small channels are getting big and that can be you but you gotta upload and try your best

Rasat hi
Rasat 100%
feel i tick all these boxes but still dont get subs, maybe 1 a day.
I'm still trying to get my first 100 subs 😪... really good tips though
The clip is really helpful, thanks a lot. I'm sure with time we shall cross the bridge.
Thanks Tim! Growing my way through the 600s now on my way to 1,000 subs, so I'll check out your ebook!
THANK YOU!
I just hit 100 subscribers today!! Next goal is 1k - Thank you for your tips
Thanks for the video, it actually helped my channel😀
This was very helpful! Just downloaded your e-book, hope it'll work!!
How does this video show the tittle and description in Portuguese for me? Are these some sort of UA-cam Wizardry?
Well over 1,000 Subs the info still helped me. Keep the vids coming bro. 🙏🏾
Thanks so much for the great video! I'll have to keep some of these tips in mind while growing my channel!
Congrats for the 1k subs!
Hey I feel the same way...
I’m doing everything you’re saying and I still get little to none at all subscribers or views.
BE patient! You’re just starting out :)
Are you doing titles people are searching for? You’re really pretty btw. Good luck really! I see you’re fighting ^0^
Tim, thanks for your help!!! You truly an a amazing person! I'm here and will be!
CloverTac
Absolutely.
If you're ever hard up for a panel member andyou think it's a topic I can contribute to, don't hesitate to contact me. If my work schedule lines up with it I'd be happy to take part...
(Just throwing i out there.)
Hi Tim, glad to see you have been coming around and providing better content. Thanks
Thanks for the tips! I think the things that helps me is uploading frequently! 3 times a week, also titles! Still trying to nail that one down!
Surgery 7 Gaming I have 123 subs too!! :D
Surgery 7 Gaming The key to your channel is improvement
Thanks!
boardgamecloset It depends on the views I guess
boardgamecloset If you have like a 100view on this vid, you prpbably refresh or something, That's why there's a big drop
We did change up our intro a while back and it helped our drop rate at the beginning. Some were dropping to 40 percent. So I guess that is a good thing.
I'll bet that you might not get to the point quick enough. Try just putting your Intro in, then just starting what the video is about.
I actually surpassed the 1000 mark this year by following these guidelines! I am refining my process even more, to make it to the 2000 mark 😀
haha no way just seen your comment Jay when this video popped up on my feed 🙂
Jay Malone Wow!! Glad to see you made it WELL past 2000! Congratulations, Jay!
Wow. You had some serious growth this year. Congrats.
WOW you grew so much!
What's your advice for comedy-driven channels? Ie. making commentary on situations in life through rants and storytimes?
I'm pretty sure uploading frequency is my biggest problem. I try for weekly, but it doesn't often happen. For the last two summers, I've gone on big trips with no computer or internet, and when I came back, I could see a huge dip in views on new videos. This time, I quickly but up some not-so-great videos that I'd either tried to finish before I left, or had done on my phone while gone. I'm not sure if that helped, or made things worse. Darn life keeps getting in the way.
All good advice! Thanks bro!
really informative video i will subscribe to you because i learned a lot from this video.
Apk Heaven wow congrats!! Subscribe to help me get to my first 1k?!
Thanks bro! Appreciate your advice.
Awesome video and very helpful, thank you!
Thank you so much for this bro.. This really inspires us small creators.. Hehehe...
Thanks for all the great information.
thanks for these tips!
I have unsubbed from people because of clickbait.I figure if they lie to me with the title it makes me wonder what else they are lying to me about.
clickbait sucks.
100% agree! Transparency is everything.
You Sir really know how to catch attention with the title.😂👏👍
Man Ive been watching your videos for tips and advice which I find it useful and enlightening. My channel got only 20 subscribers. Hope it will grow and continue to be noticed. Thanks Tim!
Getting the views was easy but getting subscribers is hard
Thank you brother and all from UA-cams l'm to all thank you for much.
awesome vid man :)
Thank you for your tips.
Tim i believe everyone can grow just got to work very hard upload frequency is key, I definitely know that thumbnails and titles play a huge role, i'm a vlogger i really enjoy making vlogs you have to enjoy what you doing.
I'm now 49 away from my first 1k subs and almost half at to my required views! Thanks for the advice!
Sugarcat wow bravo! I’ll head over and get your closer now!
