@Carson Battista i really need platforms in the Sims 4, but i don’t want to spend more money, so that would be awesome.😂 And yes, the pack looks really awesome.
It's incredible to think about. The weirdest thing is, I usually hate big mansions and I much prefer minimalistic small homes. But her mansion build paired with her starter home build makes me want to play a story where my sim works hard enough to buy that mansion. I honestly think that EA never intended to do this, but then when they came up with the idea to create a Japanese styled world they felt the need to bring in sims players and builders just so that they didn't get obliterated by the internet for doing a terrible job at capturing the culture. I can only imagine how happy Japanese players are with this choice EA made.
this was one of the best ideas they had: calling real simmers to build incredible lots in the game instead of leaving the buildings empty and poorly decorated. Praying to release an update doing this with all the other worlds (and maybe calling some Brazilian simmers too lol)
It’s actually not super uncommon for siblings to share rooms in Japan. Growing up my husband (Japanese) had his own room as the oldest child but his brother and sister shared a room.

These builds look so nice! Congrats on the opportunity Simsie, you killed it! Without minimizing the hard work that you and the other simmers put into these builds, though, I am disappointed that EA didn't use this pack as an opportunity to collaborate with Asian simmers. I think that would have been a really cool touch and would have given some opportunities to those who know these kinds of styles more intimately in their everyday life. Editing to add in this, because I think it's important to mention: even though EA fell short in not offering a chance to Asian simmers to work on this world, I am so grateful that Kayla so obviously did such careful research into Japanese houses and how they are typically set up. It definitely shines through in her builds and I appreciate that!
while i know this is maybe an issue in Sims, we _do_ actually have doors like this in my (very snowy) area, on older farmhouses especially. we actually call them Vermont doors 😹. it's usually the front door, it's built at foundation height with no steps leading up, and it's not actually used? instead, you enter through a side door, into either the kitchen or a mud room. (edit: just saw the bit you're referring to. that's definitely a thing you see in some houses even now, interior doors that you step _up_ into bc the next room is on a higher level! it looks a bit odd, both in game + irl, but i'm gonna try to assume kayla/the team have tested everything and made sure it works)
I never comment on UA-cam, but I just had to compliment you on how elegant, sophisticated, thoughtful, and functional these builds are. You can really tell that you did your research both on the interior and exterior, and it really seems like you pushed yourself with these homes. I'm happy for all of you and they look beautiful. I am a little sad that they didn't include any Asian simmers though, with it being inspired by Japan and all. Freezer Bunny has been making Japanese things for an age, for example. Not to take anything away from you of course, I'm glad you got the chance to do it. I just feel like with the continued skin tone issues and all, they should be at least making the effort to be inclusive.
I can't wait to see what Freezer Bunny does with those platforms! I'm sure I will be downloading all his builds from this pack. Hopefully next time they consider these things
The ‘split level’ feature is a traditional japanese Genkan, where you take your shoes off before entering the house. It shouldn’t really be in your dining room like you made it but obvs it’s just a pack, but just letting you know :)
I’m sure she tried hard but she is American. I as a German wouldn’t know where to start with Japanese architecture. Too bad they didn’t include any Asian simmers in this. Freezerbunny comes to mind. Like is it just me confused that 4 people who aren’t even Asian let alone Japanese build the entire thing? I mean obviously it’d be similar if it came from Maxis but knowing the people makes it more obvious. We all still have a long way to go when it comes to true diversity in the workplace, I guess
I'm hoping the "split level" feature will help me build my own home, which is decidedly American, but seems impossible to build in the Sims due to how the front porch was made. You make a valid point about people with more knowledge of the culture should have been involved and hopefully people will make use of it to make more traditional Japanese homes.
from her comments it seems like she knows this. I'm wondering if in more modern homes split levelling is still exclusive to the entrances? or if japanese architecture has evolved to include the feature in other areas perhaps.
She's just using the split levelling feature in other places though? She does have it in her entryway? I'm slightly confused as to why this is a problem.
from what i've seen in some people's apartment tours, it seems like the answer is a solid "kinda"? like i've seen apartments that had genkan + kitchen + living/sleeping area with a step _up_ between each, but none that stepped _down_ into any area besides... genkan, porches, and _sometimes_ bathrooms.
MademoiselleLottchen who you call 'a European', people in London, Moskow? no shoes? a sign? a French barricade thing we don't get? It must be a great marketing stunt i just don't understand...
@@lucasrem i think they mean that they're from europe. dunno how else you should interpret it. and it isn't really a marketing stunt?? it's just realistic for certain world areas. i'm assuming in many european homes it's commonplace to take off your shoes before going into a residence. it makes sense for this pack because it's japanese inspired, and it's also a part of many asian cultures to remove one's shoes before entering a home.
I'm a huge nerd for anime and had a phase as a teen when I loved everything about Japan and wanted to learn everything about it, so watching this video got me soooo excited. I loved your builds, you can really tell you spent a bunch of time researching Japanese architecture to make them feel more authentic. My favourite has to be the grandparents' home though, I particularly liked the use of platforms to shape the living area downstairs and the stone floors in the kitchen and bathrooms. Can you tell I'm really excited to build with this pack?
There's a Japanese Style base house in The Sims free play on Android that I based one of my houses on in The Sims 4, if you want to check out how it looks in my "Japanese Style Build " video on my channel. My build is not exactly like what's in The Sims free play, but inspired by it. My video shows that even before this new pack, The Sims 4 has enough build materials to suggest a Japanese Style build. My build doesn't feature platforms, but the outside overall build with the outer walls, the windows, and the gardens together suggest the style. Cheers

I noticed that too. I guess this is because of the platform used in the living room :(
Yeah I noticed too. It really probably is because of the higher level in the living room 🤔
while i know this is maybe an issue in Sims, we _do_ actually have doors like this in my (very snowy) area, on older farmhouses especially. we actually call them Vermont doors 😹. it's usually the front door, it's built at foundation height with no steps leading up, and it's not actually used? instead, you enter through a side door, into either the kitchen or a mud room.
I came to comment on the door too
You could always add a platform on the bedroom side of the door if it bothers you.
