I call them the back yard Batmen. Usually I have head phones on so I just pretend I can't hear them. When they feel silly for talking to themselves they wander off. People literally think they own the park if they live beside it, it's hilarious. The best was one guy who threatened to call the police on me. I told him I'd be there for a few hours and to send them by. They showed up to talk to me because they have to as a rule if someone calls. I mentioned to them it was the guy building the new deck without a permit that called. I didn't know that for sure (nobody ever gets one even though it's the law) but they went to talk to him and issued him a fine, then left. I just waved at the guy and told him to have a nice day. I'm no religious but "let he without sin cast the first stone" is pretty relevant in life.
Sometimes it takes supreme effort to love people or even to tolerate people. Once I had two cops swoop in and surround me in a park as if I was a common criminal… It was like the highlight of there a day I think they thought they were a SWAT team. I told them just give me the name of the administrator of the Township… Of which I am a resident and have paid taxes for 50 years. I talk to her the next day and she laughed and she said “They were just pissed because you are enjoying their life and they are not! Needless to say I never had a problem in the Township again she informed the police that I was not breaking any rules. I still pretty much hate people!
I just tell them, "I am civilian worker removing and recycling subterranean non-ferris and other toxic hazards to make a cleaner, safer environment for the children at no cost to you the tax payer."
I'm afraid this will happen to me, especially since I'm new at digging plugs, I dug some last week on the TransCanada trail tomorrow I'll go back and see how they look, if I killed the grass or its all good I tend to stick to dirt areas and sand, where there is no grass so far I'm going to order the preditor pehonix when I finish paying off my dectector/pinpointer/coil But its lime $50 to ship to canada, and the $150 usd turns into like $200 cad, so its a bit pricey

I do not let it spoil my fun. I have had the cops called on me more times than I can remember. Cops are always cool/curious and ask me what I am finding. This is why I like hunting with a friend.
I've had the same stupid thing happen before and I basically told the guy to leave me alone. So he called the police and they came and told him there was no law being broken. People that start the bs when your out detecting have no life and live in a bubble. I just try to ignore them and usually they leave me alone.
People just need to mind their own self and not worry about other people who are not harming anyone. People like that hate themselves more than they hate others. I pity those haters!!
It's public property and detecting is a recreational hobby. You have ever right be there just like any other person. Damaging grass or the dirt with a hand digger is such an obnoxious thing for that guy to believe. Portland is full of those people. I will not be going back to Portland. I will stick with my City where people are kind and curious. I do not engage with haters. No need to feed their hate.

California is just as bad, in 2 years I’ve had the cops called twice and 2 not so nice encounters with entitled citizens who think can tell me what to do. It would ruin my day. XP Deus 1 is the end all to all park hunting machines. The Deus HF coils are hands down the ultimate park machine. It may not go 24" deep on a half dime like others claim they can get with other machines. The Deus goes deep enough for parks and can separate targets in trash like no other machine. The Deus does have many quirks but is deadly in parks.
It takes lots of tries to get it right. I still have to delete many videos with good finds because I am still learning myself. I only get to post about 10% of the videos I create. Making videos while detecting is the hardest part about detecting for me. You only get one chance to get videos right. It takes lots of patience to make videos. I know you can do it!!
I'm sure there's many stories out there of people calling the Police. I never thought I would strike it myself. But sure enough, I was at a park here in New Zealand and I thought I recognised one of my detectorist friends in the ute (pick-up truck). I waved out with a smile holding my lesche in my hand. The car quickly drove off and I got a good look of a woman on the phone, a man driving and kids in the back seat. I thought 'Okay, sure it wasn't them.' I carried on detecting and then got in my car and drove off to another park. I get a phone call from the Police asking if I was the person out on a certain park carrying a knife. I laughed and said "No, no... I'm a metal detectorist" I then asked if the person who phoned was a woman in a ute with a family, the caller laughed and said "Yes, she thought you had a knife in your hand. Sorry to waste your time, we did try and tell her that it was most likely a detectorist. Sorry to waste your time." Another Karen, with a Ken and kids wrapped up in cotton wool and bubblewrap. "Read the room" and come out and say hello. Sometimes I wonder who the weirdo is...

Some cops life's must be extremely boring and they just wish something would happen. A friend of mine and I, who had permission to hunt a vacant lot, were surrounded by cops in 4 squad cars on Sept 11th the day the Twin Towers in New York were crashed into by the terrorist. We had been given permission from the man who's home was next door to the vacant lot. Some busy body across the street called the cops on us.

The thing these harassing people don't realize is these hobbies create billions in goverment revenue in camping detectors fishing gear ,we have them here in Australia karen's/ kens who sit on there fat bums looking out the window hoping to see a detecting guy or fishermen to harass .usually these people are not happy people in general.

Had my eye on an old chappel. Just cleared land and under construction. I got permission last week. I go today to find it hit by another detectorist. Uncovered holes everywhere and dug trash left on cleared ground. What a mess! Cleaned it up and talked to landowners. People like that will ruin it for us. Shame as you and most of us do really well. Plus the asshole stole the goods!😡😭
Just keep going back. People who leave messes are newbies and leave lots of goodies for the hardcore detectorists. Stay with that site and get as much as you can out of it before it is gone. Sites like that I usually spend as much time as I can before it is covered in concrete. Good luck man!!
