This deck has so much oil that it might be a candidate for regime change.
This is the type of top-tier commenting that I look for.
*chef's kiss*
I was stomping on a dude with this deck and then all of a sudden America busted through the door and gave the deed to my house to a despot
Sounds like it needs some freedom. 'Merica!
Take my like
Bring some democracy
22:08 You could definitely have just played Sylex and killed your opponent on the spot
Good point! Need to give Forge its moment in the spotlight.
@@LegenVD hah reasonable
YESSSSSS I was watching thinking about that
You can even do it at 20:51 - forge makes a 5/1 trample, does at least 3 to face, and then tap tablet and sylex can pull five counters each off the forge and tablet to do exact lethal.
I was crying he was like “and let’s just end the game” like two turns after lethal
Luca's ability to deck build never ceases to amaze me at how he can possibly make so many coherent decks let alone them being competitive. He is insane
Huh? Just go into standard deck building, filter for red and "oil" click all that's there et voilá there's your build. I built almost the exact same deck and tried to minmax it for quite some while but in the end was disappointed by how little room for im provement there is. It's really just all red oil cards. Done.
The sound effect that they used for oil counters is oddly satisfying to hear. Also pretty insane build here.
Like music to the ears of a robber baron.
I thought your channel would be for posting early. Suprised to see it's used for casual commenting too.
@@chesscakee Nope! Despite my username I'm just a guy who really likes magic the gathering.
I've dreaded this combination of cards in Draft.. it looks even scarier in Standard
EDIT : I'd be surprised to NOT see oil counters on March of the Machines. Though Wizards block/keyword/mechanic design nowadays doesn't care about expanding their building blocks
It's a lot of fun to play in Standard and can definitely go hard fast once the engine is out, but you're not really in a position of advantage until at least turn 5 and Standard is so chock-full of single target removal these days that you're lucky to keep it past turn 7. The card needs you to spend a lot of resources pumping it every turn so if it gets destroyed you're kinda screwed
That 1st game is .... Wow! One hit Delete. LOL!
that game made me laugh out loud literally POP! 1 shot!
@@Linear-ej8ky I LOL'ed in real life as well. It looked like a historic combo deck of sorts, where opponent is fine and dandy then suddenly dead.
This is legitimately the first red deck that actually looks interesting enough to warrant playing.
right ? i'm confused to see so many people boot up the crazy rich TCG that is MTGA only to play mono red aggro. you could swap their game with hearthstone they probably wouldn't notice.
Was my thought as well, "wow, a Mono-red deck that looks interesting to play"
you say that, but it's a non interactive combo control deck, you just do the same exact thing over and over
@@julius333333 sought of? Its more that the thing you want to do is Interesting, doubling a 10 damage ping to the face is just entertaining. That's also not it's only wincon, the Forge is also a pretty decent damage dealer.
Black gold, Texas tea. Not to be crude, but those oil counters provide a lot of value.
I see what you did there
Slick...
@@TheChzoronzon Tanks a lot
the 10 damage mode on sylex was also hidden in match 6 at 39:00, where LVD could've put an oil counter on the tablet for the 10th, and deal 10 to Sheoldred instead of trying to uptick the sylex to 4 to blow her up with it
Youre an incredible deckbuilder my friend! Not necessarily because of this deck but the sheer amount and consistency of it all. Gj sir
This deck was so interesting, never expected somebody would pull off the combo.
I admire your restraint in not discarding the extra Solphim in that last game.
Lol the first games ending! xD Great content as always, love the variety and how interesting your decks are! ^__^
The 10 damage mdoe on Sylex really was hidden! Great content as always!
Really like the combo of aggro and combo on this deck. Not the biggest mono red guy, but may have to build this. Thank you!
Just a friendly clarification, in case you care about the lore. Gix and Yawgmoth are 2 different characters. Yawgmoth is the thran physician who founded Phyrexia and became the father of machines, while Gix is the first praetor at Yawgmoth's service, who lived and died before Elesh Norn, Sheoldred and the rest of the current praetors were born. Great content as always Luca.
I always wanted to know more about the lore, also I'm always lazy about reading it. xD
@@Echoes0fTime Haha I see. I like the lore overall but it's usually kind of silly. There are channels dedicated to making short videos about it, maybe that's more your speed. You could watch them in the toilet or something. One is called Aetherhub and another one Fantasy Geographic, in case you want to check them out.
@@dumplingdepinto Thanks! I'll give it a try.
Fun to see how often the described play pattern of Brotherhoods end into Flamestoker sac comes up!
Love your decks!
At the end of game 3, instead of winning with the forge, you could simply have sacrificed the sylex and removed 10 oil counters from your permanents to win (you had much more than 10). Anyways, great videos, keep up the good work :)
Yeah I was thinking the same thing
i kept pointing at the screen saying the same thing LOL
@@mikewilson6513 Same!
I love the deck and I will probably buy it in paper too. I also like your passion and commentary. Keep it up❤
Could watch this all day.
This gotta be my favorite standard deck since NEO's oni cult anvil!
I love Fuselings. Been a few scenarios where my forge gets taken out. I'll mass oil counters on Fuesling over a few turns, and still one-shot trample everything.
Free from Flesh feels like a perfect combo but it just never seems to pay off, I took them out of my deck. Sat in my hand way more often then I'd thought I'd use then...
Sprinter is way better than I ever expected. Once you're set up it's just 2 extra oil every turn plus that haste. They work hard
just wanna say your content is absolutely top tier, and the efforts spent on editing are appreciated !
its really nice how he shows the card he is referring to, example the cut down popping up. really helps me visualize the mindset.
@@MrAustin575 exactly ! really helps out the people watching his content even though they're not playing the game ( i don't know if we're a lot in this case, but still ! )
The automatic counters are fun with All Will Be One.
LVD: plays oil deck
*USA has entered the chat*
Luca, this deck had SO much oil, the USA tried to invade it LMAO xD
Awesome job as usual! You're the best, man!!!
That "wow" at the first game.
Sounds like amused and surprised at the same time xD
That was f%*king cool, man.
Yo first game crazy as hell. I bet that person was on view battlefield for 15 minutes trying to figure out what happened. Lol
GGs Game three(that was me) 3 or 4 board wipes against azorious soldiers should be enough to win :)
Love decks that are almost a 9x4. Simple and elegant.
You earned my like for sending 20 to the opponents face in that first game 🤣
Love the deck and idea. Way too many rare/Mythics for me to build at this time, still hoping to build it down the road :)
cacophony scamp and urabrask's forge are my top 2 favorite cards in this new set, DONT SLEEP ON SCAMP
this deck is super cool!
Nice 😀
Wow that game one was pretty interesting 🤣
Any other ideas for the forge? I currently got something set up with Lagomos and Ilas Il-Kor to train them out over time, I've seen some decent success with it with a meat hook in explorer and mondrak/anointed procession
Lmao, i JUST noticed the cards in the TCG-decklist in this vid are all crabs! I don`t know when the whole crab-meme started but i`m here for it.
This is part of the crab origin story:

@@LegenVD Sweet, checking it out for sure! Thanks!
I love how they put a dawn commercial cleaning oil off of ducks when I clicked this vid 😂 Yes that’s the answer, DAWn 🤭
mono red has never really appealed to me, until now. This looks pretty fun to play.
Have you done any deckbuilding with the new Vat of Rebirth? It's quite strong with the right strategies and I don't see many people talking about it. It combos very nicely with Ziatora the Incinerator as well, and goes great with a lot of other popular standard cards like Kiki-Jiki. Maybe worth looking into.
I love it, much better than expected after playing it. I just don't know how to call the deck: LolVat, or Vatraxa... :p
I play it in a Jund shell... Bloodtithe, Cankerbloom, Gala Greeters... all are pretty good at putting a lot of fast counters in the Vat. Also Fable, of course... and Ob Nixilis (which btw is awesome sacrificing Atraxa for 7 counters and then reanimating her again, when you have enough oil in the Vat...)
i am currently trying to find a deck to play and was looking for something with Solphim. Would love to see a version with Oni-Cult Anvil too.
eyyyy this is the deck ive been trying to grind wildcards to build. My kind of jank.
Can't decide if splashing black for ob-nix is worth, both this mono red and rakdos versions have been putting in serious work
It's nice how against soldiers lvd just ignores the 10 damage from sylex finisher, to provide us even more valuable gameplay for us.
Also there is a 3 mana deal 3 spell with proliferate to get in with even more oil counters
Volt Charge could indeed be a fun addition!
Spoiler warning. Match 6.
Match 6. Wouldn't you be able to kill sheoldred by tapping tablet in your upkeep gaining 10 oil counters and then remove the 10 counters with sylex targeting sheoldred, to stay alive. (for a turn at least) Or am I missing a something?
True, although the game didn't hold priority so the Sheoldred trigger was already on the stack unfortunately.
Also unlikely we win the game from that position, but was worth a shot.
I’ve been grinding with an urabrask forge/ ob nix focused build. Not quite to mythic, really struggling in the diamond 2 area, hoping to get some insight from this video
Finally, a mono red I can respect lol
This is such a cool deck! Too bad it costs a million wildcards I'd have loved to try it.
well legend there is a possibility that we may see oil counters in MoM but maybe not
Soldier dude from first match got hit so hard and so out of nowhere, they got isekai'd
someone set us up the bomb!
The deck is definitely unique, Feels like at least 2 rebel salvo would be useful against sheoldred and beefier targets tbh. I do see this deck folding a bit to toxic decks in Best of 1, but I think we're in a meta with no perfect deck just a lot of room for creativity once you deal with specific threats like sheoldred.
Hey LVD. Great video! Was there any consideration to playing volt charge alongside solphim, or was play with fire enough on its own? I think the proliferate would do a lot of work here
I play it in the Grull version of this, agreed
Volt Charge could be good, didn't test it. Mostly concerned about having enough answers to Sheoldred.
@@LegenVD Having tested your build, I'd swap the Reservoirs (weakest card imho) and maybe some Flameseekers for the full set of Volts, which are also awesome with Sholpim. Proliferate is bonkers with the Forges etc
Flameseeker is good but he always die, unless you play it late game and can use his ability that same turn. Until then, it's just a bad blocker :)
@@TheChzoronzon Yeah, could see a build without Flameseeker working out.
I play a Gruul version, love Migloz, Adaptative and Scrapgorger
Have to try this one, looks good...but I don't have enough Forges yet :(
What do you think of something like this built around All will be one? I have 4 of those and have been itching to use it
You could try a few copies! I've cut the Flamestokers so try 2x Volt Charge and 2x All Will be One.
Me and my bro basically came up with a similar deck. Not many red only oil things u can pull off
If you add at least 1 copy of All Will Be One, it helps speed up your opponents demise, as its dealing damage every time you add 1 or more counters onto something.
Instead of blowing up the soldier tokens with sylex, you could have also activated the "remove 10 oil for 10 damage" after creating or attacking with the forge tokens. It would have been lethal at any time, but I dont blame you for wanting to kill with urabrask's forge.
Where's the fun in that!
At 23:00 he’s really talking about digging for a play with fire with a filagree Sylex and 15 oil counters in play with the opponent at 1 hp no cards in hand tapped out
Just when I thought that mono red in standard was dead
I think the first opponent was sitting there minutes after thinking, what the hell actually just happened
match 6 you could have tapped tablet to put the 10th oil counter and then sacced sylex
True, although the game didn't hold priority so the Sheoldred trigger was already on the stack unfortunately.
Also unlikely we win the game from that position, but was worth a shot.
Maybe volt surge in place of play with fire?
I find this deck interesting
How about Volt Charge? It has proliferate that offers synergy, but of course a worse rate with 3 mana 3 dmg
Should also run mechanized warfare, make it extra nutty
Doesn't really fit into the deck, Warfare is better with more direct bun spells and cheap creatures. Dealing 11 with Sylex as opposed to 10 isn't going to make a huge difference.
KFC’s chicken nuggets. They stopped making them when all the popcorn chicken started popping up in the 90s but I loved them. Something about the KFC nuggets with some taters and gravy and a biscuit that just made me happy.
Would Magmatic Sprinter or two be good in this deck? Being able to put 2 oil counters on forge every turn if it goes unanswered seems pretty good.
Mention it at the end of the video.
Yeah, Probably should have watched till the very end. My bad.
@@123elmexican No worries!
this deck seems very nice.
MAYBE it could use All will be one.
Possibly!
I warned people Oil Counters were severely overlooked and more dangerous than Poison in their own right. I didn't even need to play the precon I was just reading pre-released cards days before it came out and went "Wait...This forge is basically old school War of the Spark Chandra but one less body AND harder to remove AND you can stack counters from other things?! Ohhh baby! This with a certain enchantment might have me joining the Quiet Furnace." X3
Though I still want to find a way to make it Gruul so I can merge Vorunclex's insane power with it and redeem the Maze Crusher even if only as fodder for the Oozilith.
Could you suggest some alternatives for Koth?
This is a cool deck
I'm having so much fun with this. My own version, use a few more creatures...40 or 50+ games in ranked. Haven't seen a mirror match yet. Never seen a forge played against me yet... Does Arena do that on purpose? Or this still just not played much yet?
People ate slow to acquire new cards when they aren’t used in meta decks.
Oil beef hooked
Gosh this deck seems hard to play. Match six against mono black that turn where you're about to die to sheoldred, I think you can put a counter on tablet of completion and pull them all off with sylex to deal ten to sheoldred? still dead to go for the throat and invoke despair, prolly even another tresspasser.
Missed win with sylex on match 3, you had much more then 10 oil counters and could throw it upstairs
At 39:00 couldn’t you use the tablet to put a counter on itself in upkeep and use the sylex to kill sheoldred? Still not a good spot but would’ve let you see 1 more draw
True, although the game didn't hold priority so the Sheoldred trigger was already on the stack unfortunately.
Also unlikely we win the game from that position, but was worth a shot.
@@LegenVD yeah I don’t blame you for just taking the 2 lol, thanks for the great content beast
I am currently 1/9 with this deck! But I like the mechanics!
I've played it a little more after this video and ended up cutting Flamestoker. It's very fun, but not the most competitive.
One Punch Sylex!
Paging a marsy boy with leakage issues: "His holy mechadendriteness is currently busy providing the populace with oil margaritas".
At 39:00 couldnt u have put an oil counter on tablet and then sacrifice sylex to kill Sheoldred with the 10 damage?
True, although the game didn't hold priority so the Sheoldred trigger was already on the stack unfortunately.
Also unlikely we win the game from that position, but was worth a shot.
LVd, was there any reason for not activating Sylex to deal 10 damage on game 3?
Tunnel vision when having too much fun.
Minute 9:30 funny AF 😂
Oil Counter deck?
The USA would like to know your location.
Deck has so much oil that's the US is going to bring it some "democracy"!
WTF was match 1?
Oh stuff is happening.
Oh, wait I can deal 20 damage.
GG
Oil counters
"We can sacrifice the flamestoker to discard our empty hand to *refuel* "
I see what you did there
Game 3 you had more than 10 oil counters when you drew your second sylex. You could have won on the spot.
Indeed!
it's actually broken that the phyrexian tokens have trample, i lost to an oil counter build in like 3 turns because of Magmatic Sprinter and Urabrask's Forge combo and some removal, actually disgusting.
pretty sure this isnt a legal standard deck since it has red mana but not 4 fable of the mirror breaker. think theres an mtga rule about that in the tos somewhere...
Oh so this is how oil is supposed to work lol
Wouldn't all will be one be a good card in this deck? Or is it too slow?
Yeah can be worth a shot! It is slow but we're a control deck so we can often prolong the game to reap its rewards. Invoke Despair is the main strike against it. I've taken out Flamestokers after recording this video and made room for All Will Be One and Volt Charge.
@@LegenVDJust wanted say: I am so happy you made this video. I recently bought the missing cards for this deck in paper and it is so much more fun compared to the typical soldiers / mono red stuff. There is nothing better than the confused face you see when you 20->0 your opponent out of nowhere (also it is very cheap in comparison). I hope you make more unusual/budget stuff like this in future. So, thank you very much!
Built this deck and it is so much fun. You should try Urabrask's Anointer in it. I swapped it out for 2 mountains and it's well worth it. Helps make up for the lack of creatures and is usually a 2 for 1.
Considered it while building, can be good in certain matchups although often falls short of taking out key threats like Sheoldred.
@@LegenVD I wonder if it's better to have more Sophims
I love how u absolutely overplayed match 3
this deck is brutal.. its almost cheese like the venerated rotpriest deck.. haha and yes.. i think im gonna build it
There’s so much oil, it may need democracy
Me, the devil on your shoulder: "Play Grixis Forge, both Kaitos love Forge and you get to play the best Proliferate cards."
