  • Some nice simple exercises I find useful for building up the bass drum speed and coordination for the Grade 3 and 4 level - especially quick 16th doubles.
    Get lots of messages about how to play this or that groove from a Grade piece or song, usually involving playing a quick double on the kick, at around the grade 3 or 4 level. I feel the best way to go about it is to do a bit of groundwork with these basic exercises. Then with a bit of speed and coodination in place, those sort of patterns should come a bit easier.
    I use heel-up technique on the kick pedal but these exercise would work equally well with heel-down.
    Have fun and please let me know if any questions :)

    I’m seeing this late but it’s a great lesson. Really has me concentrating. It’s on of those that sounds so easy on paper but it very tricky. For me at least. Back to practicing now!

      @@MikeBarnesDrums I have been practicing my bass drum for a year and I still can not get it right. It is still not fast and not precise. I guess time will do it.

      Keep going! And if you haven't, I'd really recommend finding a great teacher who can feed back to you on your technique, practice method etc.
      Other than that, yes it's just time and effort, good luck man!

    A big issue I have now, and realise I’ve always had, is that my drum teacher taught me heel down from day one.
    I was taught heel down and bury the beater (hold it against the drum). I feel like my muscle memory adapted to this and I’m stuck

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  Рік тому

      Yeah big fan of heel up for this type of bass drum playing. You'll learn it - with patience and dedication. Thanks for watching.
